@carboy: used to be, but now based in Sydney.

@ae12: based on my observation lang, Sydney and Melbourne are usually more ideal for IT opportunities para sa mga PRs. According to a recruiter in Canberra, she said there are some government offices that will accept PRs but for smaller roles and some of these are not even advertised.

I am not sure if you can check the occupation quota for an individual state, but you can view the occupation ceiling numbers in skillselect. Go to the skillselect site http://www.immi.gov.au/skills/skillselect/ then go to Reports > Occupation Ceilings.

Nag register lang ako sa mga recruiting agency na sites and one of them responded to me para daw ma manage ang expectations ko kasi mas mahihirapan talaga makapasok in Canberra if nag require ng citizenship or security clearances. "Difficult, but not impossible" were her words.

I would really love to move to Canberra. I stayed there for 14 months before on a 457 Visa...it's a good place to raise a family.. quality of education is very good..... kaso lang main concern talaga ay yung work oppty... unlike here in Sydney.. limited yung work oppty doon for non-citizen..

@Husker I tried contacting Pam and Michele ng Migration Services ng ACT pero di pa nagreply. Were they helpful? Balak ko pumunta na sa July 2014. May masusuggest po ba kayo na place na ok to tirhan sa Canberra?

@kata: Yes, they were quite helpful when they responded to my inquiries. Not sure why they haven't responded, maybe they're just having to work through all the emails sent to them during the holiday season???

Hello po! Were planning to relocate on june 2014, baka pwede naman pong magpatulong kung pano kami makakuha ng mttirhan jan sa canberra. Mukhng mas ok po sana kung may makakapag refer ng shared accommodation na filipino dn ang kasama. Kasama ko pong mag mmigrate ung wife ko at 4yr old daughter namin. Maraming salamat po.

Nung lumipat ako sa Canberra ( from NSW ) what I did was

1. A week before travel Nag research ng room for rent sa www.allhomes.com.au ( make a list as many as you can, addresss.. phone number .. kung pwede mo i google map i google mo para me idea ka kung gaano kalayo )
2. Nag Book ng hotel sa Formule 1 ( baka ibis na ito)
3. Inisa isa ko yung mga nasa listahan ko ... nung meron na akong nakitang malapit at parang pwede na .. nag bayad na agad ako ... kinabukasan lumipat ako

Inde po madaling maghanap ng rerentahan as early as today normally mga tao inde papayag kasi loss of income yan ... so ito na yung pinaka effective na paraan

swertihan lang po yung makakuha kayo ng Pinoy na papayag ireserve ang room nila normally first come first serve pero a week lang yung gap ng reservation nyo pwede siguro silang pumayag

I drag mo ang human shape sa aerial map kung saan yung address na hinahanap mo. Kaagad makikita mo ang google street view. Check mo kung okay sayo ang location para may idea ka. Late ng 3 to 4 years ang street view pero very helpful.

@mace426, @bookworm mahirap makahanap ng long-term accom thru allhomes kung wala p talaga kayo dito, kasi need nyo rin i-inspect personally. yung ginawa ko before, i found cheaper rooms sa airbnb (cheaper compared sa hotels/hostels. basically the rooms in airbnb are in private houses, the owners just opted to rent out their extra room for a fee. pero di rin ako natuloy sa airbnb, kasi i availed of a better deal..free accomodation for two weeks sa isang pilipino din who went on vacation at that time and she allowed me to stay in her room for free! pagdating nyo dito, madali nlng makahanap ng accom. pm me if you need help finding accom. just trying to help, kasi pinag daanan ko rin yan.

Hi, kung Permanent Job position yan at kung na regular kana sa work mo. I suggest bumili ka ng sasakyan kapag may pambili kana. Kasi mahirap din mag commute sa Canberra lalo kapag malayo ang tinutuluyan mo at kapag weekend. Mas maganda hanapin mo yung close sa work mo ang tutuluyan mo na bahay or isang sakayan ng bus. Kapag may sasakyan ka na mas ma-appreciate mo lalo ang Canberra kasi you can go anywhere at anytime. Mas relax mag work dito, less traffic at walang Toll fees. Congrats and Good luck. God bless.

Yeah you'll appreciate mas lalo if you drive around Canberra. Maraming Christian Church sa Canberra. Saan place kayo? May Filipino community church din sa Belconnen ang JIL Church close to Westfield shopping mall. Use Google search to find Christian church syempre kung saan nyo pakiramdam na mag gro-grow as Christian dun kayo. Don't hesitate to send me message. Welcome aboard.Cheers
