Buying a cheap 2nd hand car

Hi, we've been here for 3 months and now "needs" to buy a car. We are looking at Gumtree and carsales and meron naman mga cars @ 2k with less than 150km sa odometer, yun pa lang kase ang kaya namin for a car since wala pa ako permanent work (part time odd job) while my partner has a traineeship. Reason is 2 beses na late, nale-late pala buses here as much as 30 mins. We are trying to find other ways for her to commute. Pero, if budget permits mas mukhang ok bumili ng car, this is where we need your help deciding.

say may 2k kami car nakita na ok, for now. what other expenses should we expect? i.e. insurance, rego, road side assistance(?) yang mga nakikita ko usually sa gumtree ads...sa fuel I think ma offset yun ng opal reload namin (80 for us per week).

Sa mga ads kase I can see na meron rego na 3 months lang, I assume we need to register it agad pakabili namin?..how much ba usually ang nagagastos sa registration? ano yun need na insurance(s) na required namin apply and kelan ito inaapply, e.g. kasabay ba registration? sa lto lang kase alam ko insurance back in the PH hehehe (TPL)

I have a DL from the PH since 2011 though hindi ko pa na convert to Au DL, more than 3 months na kami here, may prob ba yun?

Insurance merong tinatawag na ctp, compulsory third party required yun, depende na lang kung kumuha ka ng insurance to cover your car ( i would suggest you do kahit 3rd party it means cover nila pag naka bangga ka)

To clarify yung CTP ang cover nun yung expenses nung tao or property na masira mo yung 3rd party is cover yung kotse na masisira mo

You have 14 days to register the car in your name also you need to have the CTP and what we call pink slips ( better give them a call kasi some instances blue slip ang kailangan mo igoogle mo na lang yung difference)

For your license if you have a PR like visa then inde mo na magagamit ito

For car choices i would go for a private seller please do your research kung ano na talaga yung kailangan mo and take time

@JCsantos hi sir. bkt private seller ang suggestion nyo? D b mas safe bumili sa dealer used? Although mas mahal sya pero may offer sila na drive away. im thinking of buying a used car din kasi.
