I think the best place is where the job is.

Tama doc! But what if po meron available jobs for you in all major cities in AU? Dilemma na naman. :D

Basta for me, if ever may mag-offer po sakin ng job in all cities in AU, eto preference ko po in order.

    1. Sydney - kasi bata pa and syempre ko gusto mag-enjoy while working. Andito daw lahat?
    2. Melbourne - Dito yong mga friends ko and laid-back
    4. Brisbane - Probinsya type na urbanised daw. Climate maganda rin daw.
    5. Others

@RodGanteJr : ang gandang dilemma nyan @RodGanteJr. Haha.

Pag ganun, yung pinaka magandang offer, syempre. In our case, kung sino yung makaka-sponsor sa atin (at willing mag-sponsor) for PR. And usually, mas mabilis ka ma-sponsoran talaga if you are working in a regional center.

I'm just being practical, I guess.

Pero sige na nga, mamimili ako. Hehe. Melbourne and/or Brisbane.

I was watching news last night (habang naka-duty :D), and this is the info I got.

Sydney is still the most expensive city to live in! No surprises there. But I was actually surprised to see that median expense for a family living in Sydney is $76,000 annually! Ang mahal.

Next expensive city is Canberra, followed by Darwin. Then Perth follows closely. Ang Perth nasa 72k yata per annum.

Cheapest cities are Adelaide and Hobart (Adelaide is cheapest). Middle lang ang Brisbane (sa totoo lang, I still find Brissy expensive! ) Melbourne is still more expensive than Brisbane.

    Choose your city well. :)

Hi, to answer your question you need to have a reality check first:

.... and many others... but the ultimate question is...enough ba ang pera na dala mo at stability ng kikitain mo? You can easily choose saan mang region as long as alam mo ano ang capability mo.

Melbourne - maraming work for IT and hilig ng mga Asians as in ang daming Asians duon, mixed ng laid back and fast paced lalo na kung city living ka. Work wise not sure ano ang influx as of now.

Work wise as of this writing was na masyado umasa dahil dominated ng mga Brit, Irish, Europeans and Americans kaya medyo yung good positions nawawala sa mga Asians.

Brisbane - average ang gastos, work are fine, people here love to party always, mas easy going sila but unfortunately nakakatakot lalo na sa area ng Brisbane dahil sa flooding. Although, flooding is everywhere and sanay naman Pinoy.

Perth - dami pera promise. Work here pays more than any other states. Maganda. Enough said.

Darwin - well madaming indigent but sila naman talaga ang first settler dito sa Australia so walang kaso. Ang weather parang Pinas. The good thing here is pwede kang magbalik balikan sa Pinas dahil ang lapit mo na at kalahati ng plane fare ang kaltas compared sa manggaling ka sa Melbourne or Sydney.

Tasmania - Kaunti Pinoy dito. Think about a real laid back na ang hilig mo e sailing and usually kasama mo e caucasians tapos parati kang naghohoneymoon. Weather e mas malamig kesa sa iba. Friendly mga tao.

Canberra - kung ang hilig mo e sa bahay lang, tahimik na kalsada, kaunting tao and of course government jobs but then kung hindi ka PR with number of years na stay dito or Australian citizen mahihirapan ka makakuha ng work dahil kaunti lang ang private companies dito majority nasa Melbourne and Sydney.

Cost of living: rental cheapest sa Adelaide, work for Asians and hindi management positions mas marami sa Brisbane, kung mining ka naman or tractor etc sa Perth ka na, kung gusto mong masira ang savings mo at matagalan ka bago makanap ng work e magSydney ka as of this writing ha not sure in the following quarters.

To be honest, it all boils down kung magkano ang savings mo at ano ang line of work mo dahil lahat naman sila may gimikan din, parehas ng mall hours, parehas naman in terms of policies and procedures ng banks, centrelinks etc. Pagkakaiba lang talaga e yung number of attractions. Anyway, majority naman dito in due time may sasakyan kasi mahirap ang wala so madali na ang pumunta sa ibat ibang lugar. Eversince ang sinusuggest ko dun muna saan ang work dahil pag pinilit nyo kung saan nyo gusto tapos wala naman kayong work e maghihirap kayo.

Be wise and practical saka na sumunod ang saan kaya ako titira dapat saan kaya ang maraming work sa parehas ko then build your dream from there. Pang Brit, Europeans and Americans lang nagwowork yan dito so please be mindful dahil maraming false hope.

It is nice to live here in Australia but you have to be practical din hindi yung excited dahil nakaalis na ng Pinas. Maraming doctor na nagiging nurse or worst taga extract lang ng dugo, mga managers na pumapatol bilang cleaners or blue collar which is not bad dahil mas malaki pa nga sahod nila, mga magaganda ang work status sa Pinas pagdating dito unemployed. Kung di ka practical magugutom ka. And this is applicable kahit saang bansa ka lilipat. Look for work first then dream.

    Ta.
Sobrang seryoso naman ito Ms TinraR but yeah good insights here! :)

Ako I was able to find work in Sydney from NSW. And agree ako sa comment ng isa na beggars cannot be choosers and I am a beggar as well :)

Based on colleagues with my current employer mas prefer raw nila ang NSW for the weather kasi iyun temperature ng Melbourne is in general 5 degrees colder than NSW. After going through winter in NSW, prefer ko na hindi mag single digit ang temperature at magstay siya sa 12-24 degrees range. Regarding naman to people looking down on you, I have heard that it is the same in Melbourne but hindi lang siya as segregated sa NSW na (east/west). Meron rin northwest and southeast yata sa melbourne and pockets of rich/poor suburbs na hindi mo malalaman until nakatagal ka na dyan. Atsaka for people who went thru stressful lives in the Philippines and in Singapore, baka hindi pa kayo ready na biglang laid back life. Any drastic change is stressful in itself. Dapat gradual. With my current employer in NSW, even if people are saying it is not so laid back here, in reference to Singapore, laid back siya para sa akin. So if other people say na mas laid back elsewhere, kelangan gawin ko muna ay mag stay sa NSW to slow down bago lumipat to other states.

So aside from no choice but to stay in NSW due to my current employment, the pros of staying in NSW para sa akin ay the weather is just right for me and you have the option to be laid back or not. If ever gusto mo lumipat to canberra, 3 hr drive siya from where I am staying in NSW which is 40min drive away from Sydney CBD. I also heard a joke na canberra is the federal city/state kasi all jobs require security clearances. Even if you are right for the job, as long as you do not have the required security certificates, you will be ignored. If IT ka and I am assuming that the first job you get is not your dream job, better stay in NSW kasi marami kang malilipatan na iba. With regards to eating out, baon lang katapat nyan which me and also my colleagues (both white and non-white) do. Layo kasi ng difference ng cost when cooking your own food vs buying your food everyday.

I have to disagree on this kasi para sa akin yan expenses na yan may be from the point of view of mga puti. Asians in general have lesser cost of living as compared to our anglo-saxon counterparts. Usually nagpapataas lang ng cost of living natin ay mga luho at keeping an image na well-off tayo when we are just average like almost everybody else.

To live comfortably and cheaply sa isang lugar does not depend naman on surveys on people. It depends on you finding a solution to your current situation. Having friends and relatives who have stayed in the area longer than you can provide an insight on how they were able to do this for their situation. So pwedeng tumira ako sa perth pero since wala akong kakilala dun, I might live more expensively in perth as compared to how I am living in NSW.

It depends on the employer who is looking at your CV. If hindi pinansin Singapore work experience ko then I would still be looking for a job now. Most of the time ignored siya but it does not apply to all.

@packerx, you can disagree all you want, I'm just lifting info from the news mate.

Not to be too techinical about it, but you broached the subject anyway. It is probably skewed statistics as it does not really say how many members of the household, lifestyle, kids, mortgage or lack of, etc. But I'm pretty sure it said median average, not median white average. There should be some mix of asian families in there.

No, I think surveys do hold some merit. At the very least, that newsbit proved Sydney is still most expensive. I used to think Melbourne was a close second, but apparently Darwin is more so. The reason for Darwin being 3rd on that list I believe, is its location. It tends to be isolated from the rest. Basic commodities have to travel long distances to reach them.

Haha yes I can disagree all I want but agree ako that surveys hold some merit and also forums but they are there to serve as a guide. It gives you an idea of how other people other than you are living in general. Atsaka it is up to the individual kung susundin nya yan o hindi o kung makakahanap siya ng lusot dyan o hindi.

Meron rin nagsasabi na livable in NSW for 50k AUD annual and less.

So kuwari sabi sa survey na kelangan 76k annual cost to live in NSW. If I am able to live on 50k cost then I have a profit of 26k. Para sa akin it is all about finding loopholes sa current situation para maka angat. Well kung kaya mo i-angat earnings mo well and good but there is also a term called cutting costs (usually used by companies to mean retrenchment hehe).

of which your 26k will very likely go to taxes, not savings.

It doesn't say "kelangan", it says median. So, there will be those who can get buy with less. You can't discredit a survey almost immediately just because it doesn't mirror your circumstances. Those who are cracking the $70k-mark probably already have mortgages. At least that's what numbeo says. Not to discredit your number or anything, but unfortunately not all of us may live the way you do. Iba-iba tayo needs and circumstances.

Sorry po but I disagree.

    This is so true!

But still, kung sa Pinas to, hindi to pwede.

Sino nagsabi sa iyo saan napupunta 26k ko :p Anyway, different strokes for different folks. You can certainly live on less and it is also a more stress-free life as well when you only care what you have and nothing else. And by the way I can afford a brand new car worth 40k and have my daughter go to a private school on 50k. Buti I had relatives to show me the ropes kung baga. Mas mahal nga spending ko sa Singapore as compared dito.

And when I reach the 100k mark (positive vibes lang ito! haha), I can do more things with more money kasi nasanay ako how to live with less.

Hi, to answer your question you need to have a reality check first:

Sydney - magastos ang city living marami raming Asians but dominated ng mga caucasians, damang dama ang indirect discrimination dahil pag nasabi mo na taga Western suburb ka or basta hindi ka taga Eastern suburb, Northern Beaches, or lower north shore. Work wise as of this writing was na masyado umasa dahil dominated ng mga Brit, Irish, Europeans and Americans kaya medyo yung good positions nawawala sa mga Asians.
    Ta.
Sorry po but I disagree.

Here is a study I made recently. I used cost of living sites, expat forums, EIU, etc and merge it all together on the view preference na gusto ko. Di ko na sinama mga raw data (about 6 excel pages) to simplify it.

    Enjoy!
