Passport should be valid for 1 year to allow travel - is this true?

Hi,

Can someone confirm please how many months pa dapat valid yung Philippine passport mo for you to be allowed to travel outside of the Philippines? As far as I know, 6 months dapat. Meron kasing nakausap mom ko from a travel agency in behalf of my uncle na magta-travel to London, sabi 1 year na daw ngayon. Etong si travel agent may nakausap lang daw sya from DFA and parang di sure na 1 year nga. Ang sabi lang sa mom ko para di na ma-hassle, magpa-renew na din. Na-stress ako when I heard this kasi we have plans of leaving to AU on the 3rd week of October tas my husband's passport will expire on July 2013. If magpaparenew pa sya tas papa-update nya pa sa DIAC, baka ma-delay pa yung plans namin. I tried searching sa net for any announcements or news from DFA regarding this pero wala ako nakita. So I guess it's not true at all or it's not yet in effect. I hope someone could shed light on this. Paranoid much.

Hello po,
Kung magparenew naman po kayo wala nama problema eh. Basta hawak nyo po yung old passport nyo po.
Ang ginawa ko po dati, nakastaple yung lumang passport ko sa bago kasi andun yung US visa ko. Wala naman problem po.
Matatalino naman po yung mga nasa immigration sa airport hehehehe! Kaya maintindihan po nila kung bakit may isang passport ka na bago.

Salamat @PogingPogingNoypi sa reply. Ang worry ko if example Oct 20, mga gano katagal pa-renew ng passport ngayon? Tapos gano din kaya katagal magpa-update kay DIAC nung changes sa passport? Makakaabot kaya before Oct 20?

6 months lang ang passport validity requirement for most countries - truth be told, I never heard of any country requiring 1 year...

Thanks, @psychoboy! Ewan, siguro yung travel agent na kausap ng mom ko kaya sinabi one year para siguro pa-assist mom and uncle ko sa kanya for passport renewal at a cost. Tinakot pa ata uncle ko na pwedeng mapalabas sya dito pero baka sa country na pupuntahan nya dun naman di sya papasukin kasi less than 1 year na lang valid passport nya. 8 months pa valid yun. Ako naman nun nalaman ko yun, na-stress naman ko at baka nga totoo kasi sa husband ko 10 months. Kaya what I did this morning, I called DFA, CFO, IOM and airport immigration to confirm if that's true. All of them said it's 6 months.

and i think, you dont have to worry about that dahil PR naman ang visa nyo..
i think its only applicable for tourist.. dahil "normally" hindi ka nmn pwede mag apply ng passport sa embassy kung nasan ka if you are holding a tourist visa..
