How long did it take you to get a job?

Hello Guys,

I-share ko lang ding po dito sa thread yung experience ko, though na post ko na po siya sa ibang thread and nabasa na po ng iba. Salamat!

I am also a testament of how difficult it is to find job here in AU. I and my wife are both IT professionals (Technical Support Engineers), so before we moved here, we have decided that she will look for odd-jobs first while I will focus on finding an IT one. Medyo limited lang din po kasi yung baon naming pera. We have to rent right of the bat ng isang room on a flat-sharing, dahil hindi po kami ma-aaccomodate ng pinsan ko dahil sa liit ng inuupahan nilang house.

I chose a place that is busy and maraming establishments like malls and markets. So si misis nagwalk-in sa lahat ng grocery store asking if they need additional staff and sabay bigay ng cv (customized for odd-jobs). She did all of the walk-ins while also busy in gumtree calling all possible odd-job employers. I think kung odd-job yung target sa gumtree, its better to submit the cv asap and CALL the number of the employer right away, dahil marami po kasing nagpapasa ng cv thru e-mail and minsan hindi na po talaga napapansin, unless kayo po yung nauna. Thank God at saktong first week namin may tumanggap agad na fruit grocery sa kanya sa loob ng westfield mall. Then after that may kumuha din sa kanyang Filipino restaurant as a part-time waitress, then meron then po syang once a week 8 hr job as a sandwich assistant sa isang weekly food stall malapit sa amin (take note lahat po ng part-time job niya ay all walking distance para tipid po sa pamasahe).

Before we go here, I e-mailed my boss who is our client about my plans of moving to Sydney and if ever there is a chance, I am still willing to work for them (meron kasi silang branch dito). So technically, in my case po, meron po talaga akong hinihintay na job from our previous client. However umabot na po ng almost 6 months waiting (combined both in PH and AU) and wala po ako talgang assurance from them. On my part I kept on adjusting my CV and Cover letter, answering phone interviews and karamihan po talaga is from agency or recruiters. I finally got one interview from Commvault as storage engineer, however hindi po ako pumasa sa technical interview. Another company (Storagecraft) scheduled me for interview as storage specialist this coming Tuesday. On the day na tinawagan ako ng agency about the Commvault result, nag-email na sakin yung previous client ko back in PH about the job offer. We are really thankful to the Lord because without His mercy and grace we could have ended as loosers.

Pasensya na po kung medyo mahaba yung kewnto ko, but this is the only way I know how I can repay this forum for the all help and information I got from it.

Hello, share lang din ako. I'm not being pessimistic, gusto ko lang din na maisip ng iba na hindi ganuon kadali for everyone. Kami din pumunta kami dito ng family namin to give a better life to our son. May work ako almost after 2 mos upon arriving (referred by a friend) na hindi related sa line of work ko, hubby is still looking for a job. A few suggestions na baka makatulong:

1. Mapayo lang gaya ng sabi ng iba, less expectstions, less disappointments.
2. Be open minded, tanggap lang ng trabaho kahit hindi mo linya
3. Meet new friends, they may refer jobs to you
4. Magbaon ng maraming bala hehe
5. Magdasal
6. Lakas ng loob.

Good luck sa atin na nagsisimula ng bagong buhay dito sa Australia, it may not be an easy thing to do pero konting tiis lang, pray and everything will fall into place.

Sydney kami kasi andun yung sister ko. san yung brother in law mo sa AU? Kinakabahan kasi si hubby baka daw di kami makahanap ng job. sabi ko yun talga ang risk. pero i doubt namn na forever unemployed kami pagdating dun.

My husband took almost 4 months to get a job offer. Luckily, he got two job offers as embedded software engineer. We are very thankful that finally we can be together again. I already submitted my resignation here in SG. I will join him by October. Never doubt God for He will bless whatever your heart truly desire at the right time, at the right place. Fighting!!!

@IslanderndCity my husband was hired a few days after his arrival. he arrived on sat., applied on mon., interviewed on tues. and was offered the job on wed. sinwerte talaga, sabi nga ng mga kilala namin sobrang galing and swerte daw kasi most of them found a job atleast 3 months from their arrival.

Hello everyone! I'm going to Sydney on Sept 1 under Visa subclass 476. An old member of this forum, I've read a lot of your stories at ang laking tulong nito sakin right from when I was not even considering the idea of moving to Oz all the way until I was already purchasing my plane ticket, which covered a span of two years. Haha.

Anyway, could anyone share his/her CV to serve as my outlining guide? I intend to start seeking employment after I get in Oz. I'm an electrical engineer, BTW. Thaaaaanks!

Kaka-inspire naman magbasa ng posts especially those who've strived hard and succeeded despite the many difficulties.

As for me, I've applied while still in PH for 2 months but nothing happened. There were phone interviews then pero no follow-ups pag nalaman nilang nasa pinas pa ko.
Got a job 3 weeks after arriving in Oz, that was April. It was a data entry role which was not my line of work. But I'm still very thankful kahit pano pandagdag din sa gastusin. Now, I got a contractual job na linya ko na but my contract will end next month. So back to job hunting uli.

@kremitz, test analyst. I think naka-pm na kita months ago, nasa pinas pa ko nun, when I asked about ISTQB.

Ala pang advise if my contract will be extended but I'm not really expecting kase sobrang gaan ng work. Kahit wala ako dito makaka survive sila. Hehehe.

@RuChe we badly need that swerte din. While hubby was jobhunting I was working in SG while our baby was in Cebu. 2 months after I gave birth, hubby and I left the baby in cebu bec. we cant take him in sg, hindi pro-family ang sg eh. kaya cguro dahil sobra2x na din ang sacrifice namin family to be able to provide esp. for the baby God made it easier na for us to be together in aus. and not to mention konti yung ba-on ni hubby papunta aus kaya di pwde matambay ng matagal. hehehe

May tanong ako dun sa mga nag apply apply na bago pa lang dumating. Sinabi nyo ba sa cover letter nyo ang date of arrival nyo at willing kayong magpa skype interview?
Yun kasi ang nabasa ko sa iba. Mag apply daw pag may plane ticket na, para merong date of arrival. Mas di daw nila papansinin pag vague yung pagdating.
