For Accountants - how long did it take you to get a job?

to be honest peeps, i have decided na i-embrace na muna tong food and beverage "odd" job na nakuha ko sa isang 5-star hotel...i guess for starters this will do...as to my accounting dream, baka malihis na muna ako...balikan ko nalang ang acctg soon kng maluwag na ang market

Continue your CPAA exams while doing the odd jobs. Also, if malay mo magustuhan ka ng mga boss jan, you can transfer on their finance/ audit department. Goodluck

thanks @vhoythoy ... pero i think ipprioritize ko munang i-process visa ng gf ko as de facto...sobrang lungkot na dito...di ko ata kaya mag-isa pala...so ipon ipon muna para sa agent's fee and processing fee ulit....CPAA program will follow kung andito na sya...para din may kasama at katuwang ako sa expenses if ever... wink!

Hello sa inyong lahat! sa sobrang depress ko nitong nakaraan eh napunta ako sa forum na toh, i want to share my story lang and ask any advice sa inyo.

Nung august 2013 ako dumating dito, having subclass 101 visa, child dependent visa. Di ako CPA, management accounting graduate po. may 1 year work experience sa Bayad Center. sa june matatapos na ung cert 4 in accounting sa chisholm. utang muna kay mama ung tuition. natatakot aku na baka after matapos ko ung course eh wala pa ding mangyari or di ko alam pano ko hahandle ung mga job search dilemma. MYOB ung accounting software na inaaral namin.

gusto ko sana malaman kung anu ung chances ng MYOB/accounting work, and mukhang napansin ko bibihira ung nagaapply ng no work experience, kc di naman toh yata tulad sa atin na they are willing to train you from scratch.

or any suggestions po kung anu magandang gawin after finishing ung course. im from melbourne nga po pala. salamat salamat.

It took me 49 days bago ako nakakuha ng accounting job. Qualified CPA (Australia) ako and yet based on my experience, very challenging and tough makakuha ng work.

Iba iba tayo ng skills and qualifications. I'm sure darating at darating din yung job na sakto sa skills at qualifications natin. Magtiwala sa Diyos at maghintay ka lamang.

Got an audit job after three months of actively searching. Para dun sa mga nandito on PR na you can improve your skills kasi subsidized nman and while doing that magvolunteer sa mga NGO or city councils - this is one way to network kasi most often than not ang mga available positions are filled through referrals. Keep praying not just for yourself but for other friends as well who are also job hunting.

TodAy is exactly my 1st month s work,..it took me over 10 weeks bago nakahanap ng work,..i'm also applying n rin for odd job pero luckily nauna yung accounting job,..thanks to God!

@mark_y salamat bro. For those coming overseas they prefer ung mga galing sa Big Four or mid-tier firms. By the way, it's hard to believe pero there seems to be a high demand for external auditors here kaya some audit firms are starting to roll out ads for those in the industry to give audit a try. Regarding my job hunting experience mejo madugo pero I just kept on revising my CV up to Aus standard. Mejo kelangan itweak ung skills and experience in such a way that all the items in the position description are covered, it's not lying but it's a way of selling yourself and showcasing that you're a better product that the rest of the competition.

Hi to all,

I have been in Australia for several years now (I am an accountant/auditor same as all of you here) and I came across this site and hoping to assist/help my fellow kababayans by giving helpful information. It is not easy to land a job in Australia for all migrants I reckon not just for accountants.

Most jobs here are advertised thru headhunters/recruiters and it is challenging because most of them prefer someone who have local Australian experience. I have a mate who moved here recently and it took him almost a year to find an accounting job. He started working in a hotel as an attendant while waiting for the right opportunity.

Always remember, heaps of accountants/auditors are coming to Australia everyday plus the locals who can't find a job. I would suggest for those who are still looking, keep on applying regardless whether the work is entry level, temp or contract. All you need is a local experience to put on your CV.

CV wise, revising the format to Australian standard maybe helpful.

naku, nkaka kaba pala ito. August 30 ang touchdown ko sa Sydney and based on the previous posts, mas challenging maghanap ng work offshore. in the 10 jobs (I think) that I applied for in seek, I got the following responses: 8 NR, 1 rejection and 1 contact me when you arrive in Sydney. :P

We intend to do our initial entry this November but will settle siguro mga March of next year. We are thinking mag-aaply na online before kami mag initial entry.

@TasBurrfoot Yes, marami sa seek, but so far my applications have been unsuccessful. I spoke with a recruiter and she said it might be because of my lack of local experience. I have 7 yrs total experience, 3 in a general accounting role and 4 as a financial analyst in Cebu.

@ethel_starr, I have been working locally as an accountant with a CPA practitioner. I've currently applying for new opportunities, but unsuccessful. Pati nga mga company na I've worked with in the Philippines like JP Morgan at Deutsche Bank, e nirereject ako. i don't know what they want. maybe because lahat ng exp ko e Pinas. for most accountants na kakilala ko at may exp like SG, they can get good jobs. or maybe, pangit lang ang experience ko. hehehe. but don't lose hope.

@gherl, sa Sydney kame. referral lang ng friend ng asawa ko. cpa practice as consultant/accountant. mga one month dn kasi nagantay pa ako ng bagong client. buti nagkaroon agad. pero naginterview pa ako sa proposed client. then, ayun, naka-1yr na rn mahigit sa client na hawak ko. medyo magulo nga lng tong client ko, ayaw makinig. hehehhee

All informations are found in the CPAA website; pay the fee, prepare all your school papers (including the most important syllabus) and hope that you passed all the subjects needed to become an associate member.

From there it will be 6 exams at close to a thousand bucks each before you can earn the designation of CPA.

Give or take, 3 yrs to complete - earlier if you plan to take more than one paper per semester.

Hehe! Actually kahit saan na feeling ko relevant yung skills ko. It's been three weeks and naka isang interview pa lang. Usually either local experience or CPA/CA (Aust) na certification yung hinahanap.

Suggestion, if kaya maging CPA before lumipad dito, do it now.
