    I would actually suggest na:

    - Keep your SG Bank Account intact (DBS/POSB ideally)
    - Bring in just about enough money to get you by in Oz. 3k AUD perhaps?
    - Sign up with OFX (previously OzForex) then send your SGD through them -- you'll have to do a funds transfer of your SGD to their nominated DBS Bank Account.

Last year, when we moved to Melbourne from SG, OzForex ginamit namin. Sending more than 10k through them was free of charge, and it took 2 - 3 business days lang to be credited to my Oz Bank Account. The rates were considerably better than the money changers in SG and even DBS/POSB's.

PS: check nyo na lang OFX, baka kasi may nagbago na (last time I sent money was Oct 2015 ata)

    @Miyawski, question lang po...
PR ka ba sa SG before? When u left for Au, meaning iniwan mo sa POSB/DBS acct mo most of your money, then u do the registration sa OFX Melbourne na and fund transfer? Unsure kse ako if aalis na permanently sa SG if your not PR, no rights ka na mag iwan ng funds sa bank dito...

Anyways, I'm checking just now, mas ok rates nila compared to pay2home and POSB b2b. :)

Yes. PR in SG. And yes, about OFX and funds transfer.

Not sure where you got your info that you have no rights to retain funds in your SG Bank accounts. But based on experience, that's not true. I know of some people who lost their job and had to fly back to Phils but still retained their bank accounts. As a matter of fact, eventhough I've given up my SG PR, I still have bank accounts in SG. :) The same goes for some friends who have moved here earlier than me.

Suggestion ko sa inyo is to keep your SG bank accounts still, lalo na if you have families to support financially in the Phils. In my case, I use my DBS account to remit money to the Phils and as you probably know, free of charge sya until now :)

What I did was nagdala lang kami (family) ng enough funds nung magpunta kami dito. That's more than A$10k kaya naman I know you can bring in more -- you just have to declare the money on arrival sa Oz, and the Oz Customs will get you to sign another form na rin.

Then pagdating dito, nag-open ako ng bank account with NAB. If you can get a driving license, mas madaling proseso ang mag-open ng bank account, but in my case, since wala pa ako nun, passport and letters from govt (Centrelink) ang ni-present ko.

Then nag-open ako ng account with OzForex. You'll have to send them documents to prove your identity then (online lang naman), and they'll call you for verification. After you're cleared, pwede ka ng mag-transact. No, you are not required to transfer money straight away. It's totally up to you when -- if ok ang rate (coz it fluctuates every now & then in a day) then you book it, and then transfer money from your SG Bank Account to theirs (DBS Bank Account).

I can't remember how long it took before I did my first transaction.. but off the top of my head, my OzForex account was ready in approx 2 business days. The actual funds transfer -- from SG to AU Bank Account -- will take somewhere between 2 and 3 business days (depende kung anong oras ka nag-submit ng transaction).

Once you've registered and been verified, may isang page sa account mo where you'll be able to register your bank accounts.

Heto pala hiningi nila sa akin, after registering:
    Option 1
    1. Driver's Licence or Passport (must be current)
    2. Bank Statement* (issued within the last 3 months and addressed to yourself at your registered address)
    3. Proof of Address in the form of a Utility Bill, Current Tenancy Agreement or a Letter from a Government Body (issued within the last 3 month and addressed to yourself).
(We cannot accept a mobile phone bill or insurance document)

    Option 2
    1. Driver's Licence or Passport (must be current)
    2. Proof of Address in the form of a Bank Statement, Current Tenancy Agreement, Utility Bill or a Letter from a Government Body* (issued within the last 3 months and addressed to yourself at your registered address. We can't accept a mobile phone bill or insurance document)
    3. An Address Verification Code letter which will be posted to you. On receipt, please enter the code into our website, alternatively you can phone or email us with the code.
    I went with Option 2.

Hi Sir! followed your suggestion and it seems good. They (TorFX) call me and explain, the rates they give seems good compare to other moneychanger here in SG. I will let you know the outcome of my transaction 24-48hrs daw e, Cheers!
