Electronics and Communications Engineer:Engineers Australia or Australian Computer Society

Hi guys,

I am an Electronics and Communications Engineer and currently working with a system integrator for 4 years plus. For the first 3 years of my employment i held the position of Auxiliary Technical Engineer wherein my job was to implement and provide technical support for auxiliary systems like Door Access, Elevator Access, Public Address, CCTV(both analog and IP) after the 3 years i was transferred to a different department and promoted to Systems Engineer wherein my job was to design, implement, provide technical support and do both pre and post sales work. currently i have a CCNP(Cisco Certified Network Professional) in routing and switching and CMNA(Certified Meraki Network Associate).

I have a bit of a problem, im am currently planning to process Skilled Independent visa (subclass 189) and looked at the Skilled Occupation List this is where my dilemma starts. On the list i have a number of occupations that fit my job namely the following:

Electronics Engineer 233411 Engineers Australia
Computer Network and Systems Engineer 263111 ACS
Telecommunications Engineer 263311 Engineers Australia
Telecommunications Network Engineer 263312 Engineers Australia

My current position really fits well with the Computer Network and Systems Engineer this is because my CCNP Certification is accepted by the ACS as comparable to graduate outcomes of an ICT major at the AQF Diploma level but the problem is i have only 2 years of experience in my current position although i have projects before that is related to my current position the visa subclass i am processing i need at least five but less than eight years to get the 10 points which is critical in order for me to reach 60 points.

I really need advice on this specially from fellow ECEs and engineers. your comments and suggestions are greatly appreciated.

@Ric_Suizo , im an ece too, worked in electronics manufacturing for around 16yrs as new prod dev engr. I got assessed by EA. I saw your line of work fits well with network engineering so its a simpler choice with ACS...but what is your prospected job in Au? And is that job still have available slot in SOL? You may want to check it for your points needed and what evidences you could provide to the assessors...cheers!

@Teng10 , network engineer po prospected job ko sa AU. is it possible po na pde siya ma sakay sa electronics engineer para po 5 years total yung experience ko para umabot sa 60 points.

My suggestion is to apply for the occupation where u have the edge of being granted the faster. once granted visa, you can work in any field in Australia. ECE is deemed to be an ICT major/minor depende sa course subjects. For your previous employment, hindi ba kaya maadjust ung job description to fit that of the IT professional occupation? Kasi u need more work experience because of the ACS requirement, they deduct certain number of years, depende kung ICT major or minor maconisder ung course mo.

@Ric_Suizo I suggest go with ACS. Palabasin mo ung work mo dun sa Auxilary Technical engineer na may "systems server" ka na minamanage. Then all CCTV IP and Door Access' are interconnected via "network" which you also manage. Palabasin mo na ganun ang ginagawa mo. Which I think is ganun din naman. Just my 2 cents.

Yung sa systems server na ibig ko sabihin kasi AFAIK may mga servers yung mga CCTV and door access kung san nagsstore ng data. Mostly mga yan Windows server. Kaya part pa rin naman yun nung 263111 na ANSCO code.

@Ric_Suizo i suggest go with EA, ACS may require you with more than 2 years of related IT work.

Question po as Teleco engineer ECE ka po ba? My brother is ECE and have 13 years experience in his field. Na line up sya sa Electronics part sa mga semicon, worked in hp and medical production machines. He supervises production in the fab. Now my question po sa lahat ng pede sumagot. Do you need to be license? Hindi kasi sya nag take na ng exam. OFW din sya so he did not see the use. San po ba sya aapply as Engineers Australia or as Electronics Trades Worker?

@archbunki ECE din ako and nagwowork sa semicon. Nagpaassess ako sa EA as Production/Plant Engineer (233513). May PRC certificate ako na pinass, di ko lang sure kung required kasi di naman ginagamit sa profession yun.

@archbunki pwede ka mag pa assess pag di ka licensed, though hindi assured na professional engineer ang outcome kung hindi galing sa section 1 school. I'm speaking from experience btw.

@MLBS ah okey. yup ang fear lang is baka hanapan ng prc license although experience wise akma naman talga sa profession as ece and electronics side.

Sir pasensya na, almost 1 year ako di nakapag login dito sa pinoyau. I think sa Engineers Australia siya dapat, for Electronics Engineer accreditation
