    Wow.

some pinoy doesn't bother getting dual citizenship just because it will be inconvenient for them to process the papers? or they were hesitant to pay for maybe $200 - $300?

    tama ba?

    sad thing.

It doesn't matter, apart from owning properties in the Philippines I don't see any advantage to get dual citizen in due time...

Yup, inconvenient to process papers (i.e. pupunta ka pa Canberra or maghintay ng mobil mission) and the fees.

It varies from people to people but I don't see much to gain here.
yes varies from people to people.

My personal view is i don't have to gain anything for me to get my Filipino citizenship back. Enough for me that I get the right to be a Filipino.

Siguro im just really rooted of my origins.

This is indeed a interesting discussion. Well, let me share you my thoughts.

My current situation now is very relevant. I am now awaiting for my scheduled Aussie pledge and will get my Aussie passport immediately after that. I will 100% re-acquire my Phil passport as soon as save the money (a family of 4 will be pricey!).

I may now be almost an Aussie but I will always be a Filipino. I believe knowing where you came from is important, especially for the kiddos. The passport is a secondary thing - I want to always declare that I am a Filipino and proud of it. I am getting my Aussie citizenship because I am grateful to this country for giving me the opportunity to work and live here.

"..ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country."

Masalimuot din ang process na pinagdaanan natin sa pagmigrate.. from assessment to visa application.. kinaya naman natin.. so sa tingin ko kung gusto may paraan para makapag-apply ng dual citizenship..

Masarap din umuwi sa Pinas someday para tumulong.. we wont be where we are right now if not for the learnings and experiences we've gained in growing up and living in the Philippines, and from interacting with all the people around us, esp our family and friends..

Nabibwisit ako sa gobyerno natin.. pero Pinoy pa din ako, and I hope I can do something to help in the future..

curious.. what happens if you got your australian citizenship but decided to go back to live in the Philippines for some reason (and so got dual citizenship).. is there something you need to do to retain your AU citizenship? or it doesn't get invalidated? you will always be AU citizen even if you don't live in Aussie na.

Diba kapag once Citizen ka na ng isang bansa.. kahit saan ka pa mapadpad after nun eh Citizen ka pa rin naman? Hindi pwedeng bawiin unless fraudulent yung migration process na dinaanan mo.

speaking of dual citizenship, I had my Australian citizenship last year and wanted to apply for dual citizen in the Philippines. I got married here in OZ and now using my husband's surname Smith, now my problem is my australian passport and my other identification my middle name is carrying my mom's maiden name. My maiden name is Melissa Lumbab Gaquit, when I changed my name to married it became Melissa Lumbab Smith. It is contrary to Philippine regulations that the maiden name becomes the middle name. Does anyone here experience the same problem? How to change the middle name here in Australia to harmonize Philippine regulation? Or Can I apply dual citizen in the Philippines not following the regulations?

    thank you,

Question po: If Australian / Dual Citizen ka, may rules ba about leaving Australia like how many months na okay lang na wala ka sa bansa? or how many months at need mo ng mag enter ulit ng Australia. And if Dual Citizen ka and nagdecide ka na magstay sa pinas, worst case scenario "nagkasakit" ka, you can still go back to Australia to avail free medical using Medicare?

    Please advise

if you are an australian citizen, there is nothing stopping you from going out of the country and staying as long as you like - just need to ensure that you have a valid visa to stay in the country that you are going into.

having mention dual citizen in another country, this ticks the box for valid visa requirement.

and yes, if magkasakit ka ng todo and you decide to avail of medicare, pwedeng pwede... pero sana hindi ka naman magkasakit...

@engr_maylene052581 after 6months away from AU, there are certain government benefits that will be reviewed and assessed if kailangan mo pa matanggap (if you were receiving any).
About Medicare, as long as di pa expired yun latest medicare profile mo, then that should be ok. before medicare renewal is upto 6 yrs? tama ba? then in some cases they shorten it to 3 years precisely because of these situations like going overseas for extended period of time.
