For me health insurance is a must, I was hospitalized before and wala akong insurance or even philhealth. Sobrang sayang kasi instead na macocover a big chunk of the bill I ended up paying around 50k

Experiences in the Philippines and Au are different. Will share my story. In Au, there is Medicare, which means that if in an emergency, you can go to the public hospitals here and be treated for free. This is why a lot of people choose not get private health insurance. There is no need for it. However, in certain situations, they apply triage, meaning they prioritize people who will need it more.

For my story, within a year of my arrival here, I got private insurance simply because I wanted to avoid healthcare loading. I only got the basic ambulance and hospital coverage. Since single, I paid less than a hundred per month.

Fast forward 2 years, I felt a pain in my tummy. It was persistent but didn't impede my daily activities. I went to the doctor, and after several tests, it was determined that I had a cyst in my ovary that was huge. It definitely needed to be removed. My doctor asked if I wanted to go private or wait for the hospital. Since I already had insurance, I took the private option. I was operated on the next day (next availability of the doc), and was fine within 2 weeks.

    To sum it up:
    Private Health Insurance
    Pros:
    • immediate care
    • own room
    Cons:
    • pay excess fees (depending on what you chose when you got your insurance)
    • monthly or annual fee
    Medicare or public hospital
    • Pros
    • totally free
    Cons
    • shared room
    • wait for availability
So, you need to choose what is best for you. Look at the pros and cons I mentioned and determine for yourself if the additional cost is worth it.

@batman @japsdotcom Nagstart na ako magresearch ng personal health insurance since 489 yung visa ko. Anu-ano yung mga pinagpipilian ninyo? Meron bang mga dapat i-take into consideration aside from yung coverage or halos pare-pareho din and sa rates lang nagkakaiba?

    @maguero @
    Here is my option.
    1. Allianz
    2. Medibank
    3. Bupa
In my opinion, in terms of extras, Allianz has a better cover than Bupa. Bupa is at 50% whereas Allianz is at 70% with a bigger annual limit. The Medibank cover is top of the line, however, the cost is also bigger.

Nabasa ko sa thread from @japsdotcom na top 3 is Allianz, Medibank, and Bupa. May I ask po yung specific packages na napili ninyo from your insurance providers? Thank you.

@archdreamchaser im on 489 nag bupa ako. I just learn na pag refundable from medicare yung transaction like eye check up. Di nila i rerefund. The problem is hindi tayo cover ng medicare kaya di din natin ma refund. Tpos during application di nila sinasabi yun. I feel like basta lang maka kuha sila ng client lahat ng good info lang babanggitin nila tapos ma discover mo na lng sa actual mga di nila cover since di din tayo familiar sa cover ng medicare. Im thinking to change my insurance, monthly nman sya not annual contract.

@batman kelangan pala talaga icheck un coverage ng insurance before kumuha.

    Thank You:)
