CO and Visa Grant: 9 Oct 2012

@metaform 1. We have 20 sites and the network design was setup by Telstra which is an overkill for the company. I will re-design and implement our own from scratch connecting all the sites. The savings from Telstra project alone is already $10,700/month.
2. VMware Esx implementation is also on going from cloud back to on-premise. $4k/month
3. Printer suppliers charged the company 180% higher than the usual price. ex: one printer cost us $2000 where I bought the same for $700
4. Company was about to buy a reporting software but we have SQL 2005/2008. I used SSRS to create reports so why buy.
5. There was a company telling me that they did the previous email migration and was insisting that I would need some assistance. I did the email migration alone.
It was a very multi-tasking role though sanay naman tayo nyan sa Pinas.

@sohc, boss, how is compensation for an exceedingly good job done? Alam ko kasi hindi uso ang OT pay sa Australia so bibigyan ba kayo ng bonus niyan? hehe

Hi to all accountants! Gusto ko lang mag survey if based sa experience nyo saan state mas in demand ang accountant. I find it hard dito sa Perth kahit me 1 yr experience na ako sa accounts then CPAA associate na rin ako. I am thinking of moving to another state when my State sponsored conditions ends by June next year. Mas mabilis kaya accounting jobs sa Sydney or Melbourne?

Sydney is the financial capital of Australia so mas marami dun...But my friend who studied in Melbourne got a job fairly quickly too

@Pinoz, I asked my boss about the job market for accountants in Australia, sabi niya bumagal yung demand dahil sa global financial crisis, pero sobrang strict yung tax system nila dun kaya hindi nauubusan ng trabaho ang mga accountants dun hehe

if you can apply as electrical engineer to get here but shift to become an electrician. I bet you'll earn more. My friend arrived here last February 2012, applying as electrician.

I have taken my 1st exam and next week will be my ethics and governance exam but thinking of shifting to concentrate on taxes. me mga studies kasi na in the next 10 yrs all accounting function will be outsourced, so vanishing career na sya. probably controller and CFO na lang matira, pero hanggang me worker pa dito me mga taxes pa rin.

That's partially true...As we speak, may mga outsourced accounting offices na sa Makati na Australian-based yung company hehe...pero hindi to the point na mawawala ang demand sa Australia. Lalo na't mukhang mananalo ang partido ni Tony Abbott sa susunod na elections (sobrang tutol siya sa outsourcing)...jobs will stay in Australia

Hi Pinoz,
I am an accountant as well, based in Brisbane. I got a 3-month contract a week after landing last March. After 3 months, my employer made me permanent (Thank God!) What I did was apply through recruitment agencies as early as a month before I left Manila. I got responses days after I sent out those feelers. And because I mentioned that I hold a permanent visa, the recruiters gladly scheduled interviews for me. So I spent my 1st week doing interviews with different recruiters. Finally one of them was able to organise an interview with the employer, and the rest was history. Hope this inspires you. I think in demand ang accountant dito sa Brisbane. Every now and then nakakatanggap pa rin ako ng calls from agencies Basta tiyagain mo lang, ang pray hard.

Hi @LokiJr! Walang fee involved at all I got the job through Robert Walters (check their website). Bale fixed ang hourly rate ko, and sila ang sisingil sa employer. I knew for a fact that they charged my employer twice my hourly rate, but that did not bother me. Basta contented ako sa sweldo ko, ok na ako dun. Marami pang ibang agencies - Abacus, Robert Half, Hays, Optimum Recruitment, Zelda Recruitment...halos lahat ata nakapagpa-interview ako on my first week here. Until recently, I still got calls from them for job opportunities, pero shempre I had to say No kasi ok na ok naman na ako sa current employer ko. Very thankful that my bosses fought tooth and nail to create a permanent position for me
Hi guys. Sa mga nakapaghanap ng trabaho before arriving in oz, ano po nilagay nyo na address at contact nos. sa resume/cv, yung overseas or local(australia)?
@bmc_cpu My resume had an Aussie address and contact info + email address. I also included my Visa Class. The employer rang the number (it was my friend's landline in Sydney) and he said he would inform me about the call. The employer also sent me an email asking if I want to be interviewed for the role. The rest is history.

The CV I lodged in Seek while I was still Manila had my friend’s Aussie address, my email address, and my Philippine mobile number. The recruiter emailed me and asked for the perfect time for a phone interview. This goes to show that recruiters are willing to do phone interviews while the candidate is away from Australia, given that they are bound to fly in soon anyway. I agree, it would be good to indicate visa number or better yet residency status in your CV, “Permanent Resident of Australia”. That would give the recruiters the assurance that you’re eligible to work here and would not require any sponsorship anymore.
