One more question... since nga out of line sa experience mga odd jobs.. how did you do your CV? Did you pay pa ba sa mga taga gawa ng cv

as for me, it took me 8 months to get a job here in Australia. I am a programmer in the PH. I almost give up and wanted to abandon my visa. I never give up because of my family who pushes me to stay pero as for me uwi uwi na ako. I just continue submitting application, answering recruiters kahit minsan they are barrier to your application and attend interview which mostly were rejected, submit program exams code, until one day naawa ang Dyos sakin ang He gave me a job that didn't make me exert so much effort to end up with just one interview I got in.
Maybe for those of you who are in similar situation who cant find job here in AU, I advise you to pray and as kGod if it's his will to let you go here that He guides you in your search for job and sustain your daily needs.

ACS application - Dec 30, 2012 (Software Engineer)
    IELTS 1st take (7L, 5R, 7W, 5.5S) - Feb 2, 2013 (retake)

    Received invitation - July 15, 2013

Same as everyone, I arrived here with all my hopes and dreams thinking my job experience and skills will get me the job I want. Ha.

Several months after I arrived, still nothing. So I took a job at Woollies. In my mind, I will continue to persist. I went to several job interviews, still nothing. More than a year after I started working at woollies and almost 2 years in Australia, I finally got my first job in my field.

    2 years!

So to those who have almost given up hope, stay strong and persist. It is only if you give up that you are truly defeated.

@bookworm akala ko matagal na yun sakin mas matagal ka pa pala record breaking bilib ako sa patience mo. as for me, hindi ako makakita ng odd jobs while looking for work. nagapply na ako kung saan saan coles, aldi, woolies, australia post aba hindi ako tinatanggap willing naman ako kahit ano work kaya sama ng loob ko talaga. Ang odd jobs alng na tinaggap ako agad is Deliveroo at yun catalog distribution. Naenjoy ko to work na to, wala kasi ako boss at sarili ko oras ko. until now nagdedeliveroo parin ako every weekend kasi nagkapagbike na ako kumita pa ako.

Pero everyone who are experiencing hardship in AU, ganito po talaga dito swertihan makakuha ng work. Damihan nyu lang ng dasal and to tell you ok naman ang skill ng mga pinoy akala ko sobrang magagaling ang mga aussie kaya di nila ako tinatanggap akala ko lang yun basta do your best God will do the rest.

@Megger , yup I have a teen at grade9..and the tuition is around 150per week..way expensive kasi we opted for private school where we have our "new friends" kids too. But thinking of sending her to public school next year.. Almost financially stable now..God willing, well be fully stable soon.

No kids.

Reliable kasi. Kaya hanggang ngayon, kinukuha pa din ako paminsan minsan lalo pag kulang sila sa tao.

The start will always be hard just always keep your end goal in mind. Ayaw ko din umasa sa mga pamangkin, mas maaga ako mamamatay (because of pride). So sabi ko, Australia.
For those of you with families or planning to have families, ang culture dito, family first. Which is my malls are closed at a certain time so you spend time with your family. So always keep in mind that either your kids are your priority (think of all the opportunities they will have that they will not have in PH) or your future.
Also, at least dito may Medicare and subsidized medicine.

Always remember that starting is hard. So nakakaiyak tlga.

Persist :) continue trying and pray.

Good luck sa atin lahat.

@Anino78 oo basta masipag ka lang, sa deliveroo may shift incentive kasi need mo lang magapply sa staffomatic minsan they're giving 18 or 9 or 27 per hour on top of the delivered order which is 9$ each pero may deduction yun parang nagiging 8.5 per delivery. sa ubereats alam ko iba rin sila magbigay ng rate wala sila shift incentive per kilometer ang bayad nila. pwede mo nga magsabayin yan ubereats at deliveroo basta online ka lang either of the two pero d pwede sabay. nakaka 500 ako nun per 2 weeks pero mabagal ako, mind u babae pala ako hehe kaya average delivery ko atleast 4 a day pero marami ako shift. ang hirap talaga makakuha ng work dito sa au, hindi ko talaga magets bakit ganun eh qualified naman ano ba hinahap? mas ok pa nga magtrabaho yun pinoy. I don't find them aussie special at work magaling lang sila magenglish syempre language nila yun, pero sa sipag lang wala ata tatalo satin.

actually the thing i realized when i dont have work is I learn to pray and rely to God for my daily need. I realize I don't really need so much I just need enough and God provide my needs daily until such time He gave me a job. Kaya kung mawalan man ako ng work ulit kasi under contract lang din ako, I won't be afraid to go back to my old work kasi He will provide.

Guys, I'm from Perth and experiencing the same difficulty in landing a job here as well. Next week marks my 1st year of stay here from the day I landed here as PR. I came here end of October 2016 and started from scratch. I took catalogue delivery as well just for the purpose of familiarizing AU roads while driving my first car bought here, a Toyota 2002 matic Camry. After 2 months, my wife and 4 kids came here. Only Centrelink survived our financials for the rent and bills until finally, I landed a casual job that is somehow related to my engineering field. But unfortunately, I just ended up working cumulatively for 4 months after my 1st contract renewal. We're not used to this type of employment style where anytime, your manager could say, "don't come to work the entire week as you got nothing to do at the moment". Reason being is the low job demand orders. I was a pressure vessel inspector and adjusted a lot as being a professional engineer in the PHL is different here in AU. You got to have your hands dirty and roll up your sleeves to survive in this state of "trady people". Sadly, I feel you all, it is very frustrating as after the end of my casual contract, it's really hard to get back and received plenty of rejection letters from numerous job applications. What we did for the moment with my wife is we accepted another catalogue delivery job which took twice a week frequency earning 80 AUD. At least something is coming in than zero. My wife even decided to apply on retail shop in the city just to take a chance. Here in AU, local experience and connections are the driver to win a job. Quite a few ditch a job plainly without and I tell you it's so frustrating that you even consider the jobs you won't even imagine applying.

    SOME TIPS:
    1. Go out and network - as most jobs were not advertised at SEEK or LinkedIn
    2. Get your full driving license
    3. Acquire online tickets or certificates (if your budget may still suits)
    4. Brush/polish your CV based on the job ad rather than sticking to a generic CV send to all
    5. PRAY and stick together as a family

@orengoreng , interesting na youre in Sydney, kasi NSW yong 190 namin. Ask ko lang kung may minimum wage ba dyan, and will that wage be enough to pay house rent of say, 410Aud per week? Reading you guys gives us better picture out there. Thanks for your honesty. Hopefully all of you will find the job you want. God bless. It seems that Engineering and Techs are struggling for job there.

Reading recent posts regarding job search makes me a bit anxious, specially na we are a family of 4 tapos schooling age na yong mga kids. Is it really a trend ba ngayon na wala masyadong job opening dyan sa Oz? Thanks sa reply.

@Megger oh my hindi makakafill ang deliveroo sa weekly rent. do the math na lang kung kaya mo makadeliver ng 15 orders per day * 9 eh pwede siguro pero gamit ka scooter o sasakyan. sa deliveroo, may shift yun magapply kayo per week depende kung mapprove sa inyo yun shift kasi marami kayo nagapply, pero pwede ka naman makareceive ng order kahit walang shift. yun shift kasi guarantee payment ke may order ke wala ranging from 9,18,27 depende sa oras o turnover ng order sa araw na yun.

ako kasi shared kami nun pinsan ko sa rent so kumikita ako ng 1500 sa catalog at deliveroo per month. 850 ang rent ko pero month so may 650 pa ako natitira pang grocery. pwede na, pero magisa lang ako nito ha wala family kaya naman basta masipag ka lang at hanap ng paraan at marami dasal. mahirap talaga dito sa australia itetest talaga patient mo, kaya nagcasual muna ako kasi kung d ako gagawa ng paraan eh mababaon talaga ako sa gastusin. tapos may time pa ako magapply kasi yun casual work ko at most convernient time ko kumilos eh pwede.

nga pala kung magaapply kayo ng casual, downgrade your resume. wag nyu na ilagay ang experience nyu sa totoo profession nyu baka d kayo matanggap kasi overqualified just like what happened to me at autraliapost. feeling ko tanggap na ako kasi ok naman yun sagot ko at inikot na talaga ako sa facility, pero hindi pala yun naginterview sakin ang may say kundi yun global HR nagtake down notes lang yun naginterview siguro may feedback na rin pero at the end yun global HR ang magdedecide at may nakalagay sa resume ko na office work ayun d ako natanggap. nagapply pala ako doon na mail post carrier 21$ per hour not bad dba pero d ako natanggap.

@megger, @mikeyanbu, I recommend coming here first. It would be easier to manage and try to look for jobs na mag isa lang muna kayo. Mahirap but it would be better off financially. Pag may established work na kayo at mas stable na, tsaka nyo na lang pasunurin family nyo. Ganun ginawa ng friends ko dito and it worked for them.

love this thread.. salamat guys for sharing your advises and experiences.. it just shows na its not all success stories, we still need to make our way up.. i don't want to get blinded by the thought na getting pr means being marketable to some extent. It is a different playing field from what we're used to sa pinas or here in abroad (middle east, sg,..)

kelan kayo mag BM @MikeYanbu , @Megger ? just like you guys, im also afraid of this uncertainties. goodluck sa atin guys..

a year from now, you will wish you had started today
