@corvinus26 I believe there's a very strong demand everywhere for Revit Modellers/Drafters/BIM professionals. Make sure lang na highlight those skills and projects.

As for QS, mukhang kailangan mo pa ng experience here to get to know the market.

@corvinus26 if you have certificates to boost your CV then much better. If that is your way to sell your qualifications to potential employers then do it. Never think na konti lang ang ang competition mo so you need every advantage to get noticed. Pero so far wala naman nag ask ng certificates ko during interviews.

Ako since im in architecture industry, i focused more on my portfolio to get noticed. I built websites, online portfolios and check the stats kung ilang potential employers nagvivisit.

as for your QS/estimator position, im sure most employers would prefer with OZ experience lalo na yung may familiarity sa labor and material costs. My current employer hired me for my experience in hospitality projects yet pagdating dito ibang iba yung hospitality requirements nila. Yung softwares pa na ginagamit nila is different from what im using. But luckily they are more than willing to guide me along the way. In short, Its really up to the employers if they are willing to take a chance on you.

@slim_beech I like this approach.. Right now ngiipon ako ng mga Linkedin contacts na related sa Industry ko.. But I have yet to officially ask for a job through emails.. Im trying to draft an email na magiging malakas ang impact when I send to Hiring Managers/Directors. Bka meron ka po na e-mail format that you had used in your application before.. for guide lng po. @engrllagas i dont think my cover letter format applies to you kasi magkaiba tayo ng field e. What i did is I started saving job ads a year before i started sending my CVs. Since expired na yung job ads na yun when i applied, ginamit ko yung mga skills at criteria nila sa job ads and highlight it sa cover letter and cv's na sinend ko sa kanila. Most of these job ads naka indicate yung direct email to HR or person in charge of hiring.

Believe it or not i got my current job by doing that.

Just to share to the rest, some of the headhunters that I exchanged email with in AU said that some employers prefer talaga na either you have local experience or living in AU already. This is true especially sa ICT especially that you will be handling sensitive systems. Normally international companies are more accommodating to migrants since they are used to hiring them, so ok lang sa kanila skype interviews.

Thank you for your inspiring stories.
Almost 2yrs here in AU. I got my first job as a nursing assistant after 8months with a nursing agency, then with a public hospital 2months after. My contract with the public hospital has now ended and I am left with an agency job at the moment. I have recently gotten my nursing registration and I am currently applying for RN positions. I am again anticipating heaps of rejections and to be honest, masakit talaga. Although I have not had extensive work experiences back in PH like most of you guys, I was in the middle of my medical doctor studies when I decided to move here. I couldve been an MD by now but I pursued Nursing here in AU instead. So I really do hope that it will be worth it in the end.

@prettythingsaroundus , yes there are plenty of part time and casual jobs. Most of them are with job agencies such as Manpower, Randstad, etc just search it on seek or indeed..pero mas mabilis kung may makakapag recomend sayo na worker nila...cheers!

@zballesteros in my opinion, the best time to apply for a job is when you are already in Australia. If you want to apply earlier than that, it will be better if you have an Australian phone number and an Australian address on your cv. Otherwise, indicate your visa type and date of arrival to Australia on your cover letter.
Employers usually prefer to contact candidates who are already in Australia.

@zballesteros I don't have idea kung anong month pinakamaganda kasi kadarating ko lng dito 2 weeks ago. Pero I started applying last November. Puro rejections inabot ko. So December d muna ako nag Apply. Nag send ulit ako ng applications last january. Puro rejections pa din. Except 1 na nag invite sa akin for interview pgdating ko dito. Kinontak lng ako nung nandito na ako. Swerte nman na 1st interview ko, nkuha ko yung job.
Madami tumatawag at nageemail, sa mga inapplyan ko nung nandito n ako. Pero nag stop n ako agad mag Apply nung nakapasa n ako sa interview.

I also got lots of rejections, di ko na nga mabilang. I got so hopeful one time an MNC company I applied to contacted me and said that they are keen to have a conversation with me about the position and asked me when will I be moving to Australia. When I said by April, immediately the day after I received the standard rejection email

Pagdating niyo dito ganyan rin pero syempre tayong mga Pinoy eh di matitinag ng rejection letters

I got hundreds of them haha. 2.5 months rin ako wala work pagmove dito tas yong first job ko mga Nov ko inapplyan pero Jan pa ako nagstart

And then second company ko naman after a year, pahirapan uli maghanap pero bigla na lang din dumating... So kapit lang. Mas madali rin magapply kapag andito na kayo kasi anytime pwede kayo umattend ng interview unlike kapag wala pa. Pero marami parin ang nakakakuha while outside Australia kaya just keep on applying.. All the best!
