Hi @LokiJr - most big recruitment agencies naman that caters to office jobs do not usually ask for fees from the potential employee. It is either a one off fee from the employer (around one month worth of salary) or they receive a portion from what the employer pays the agency for the employee. :)

Hi @LokiJr! Walang fee involved at all :) I got the job through Robert Walters (check their website). I knew for a fact that they charged my employer twice my hourly rate, but that did not bother me. :) Marami pang ibang agencies - Abacus, Robert Half, Hays, Optimum Recruitment, Zelda Recruitment...halos lahat ata nakapagpa-interview ako on my first week here. Until recently, I still got calls from them for job opportunities, pero shempre I had to say No kasi ok na ok naman na ako sa current employer ko. Very thankful that my bosses fought tooth and nail to create a permanent position for me :)
This is my second most favorite post in the history of my favorite posts.

@LokiJr, that’s right. Usually contract-type ang work sa una, then employer na ang bahala if gagawin nilang permanent or not. It all depends on the nature of the role. Madalas din yung 12-month contract to cover for a permanent employee going on maternity leave.

Diyan po ba sa Australia if you started out as a contractual worker, what's the likelihood of being a regular employee?

90% of my accountant pinoy friends were made perm after serving their contract.

I heard that some companies are particular about titles, they don't take in non-cpas (in australia). But my employer (also the headhunter) acknowledged my Phil license. I think konti lang yung mga picky talaga. :)

Happy New Year sa inyo... I made my initial entry last 2010 pa, up to now, nag iipon pa e, na preggy kasi si misis after our initial entry, sa Adelaide kami nag entry nun. Anyway, I think I'm ready to go na anytime this year, kumukua lang ng right timing, kamusta naman ang job market for java/j2ee developers and also pre school teachers (trabaho ni misis)? Im still thinking kung mag Adelaide kami or Melbourne kasi pansin ko mas madaming job posting sa seek for java developers sa Melbourne at medyo bihira sa Adelaide.

@sebastian04 Go melb or syd if you are into java/j2ee. Depending on your skill set ie. java/j2ee + agile background.. o kaya naman android development.. mabilis kang makakuha ng job... you might even cherry pick which job depende sa experience/skills.. Also lurk in the australian java user groups (jug).. you might see some job posts from time to time there. I havent done java for quite some time.. but on the ruby mailing lists especially on melb or syd.. you get a few job posts.. i assume it might be the same for jug.. Good luck and let me know when you decide to go here in melb.. it would be good to hang out with pinoy software devs from time to time..

@sebastian04 Melbourne will have better market rates of course, although I think in terms of climate mas pareho ng Pinas ang sa Adelaide (and that's also a factor worth considering if you have the choice where to move hehe)
