BAD EMPLOYMENT EXPERIENCES IN AUSTRALIA

ali0522ali0522 philippinesPosts: 225Member

Gusto ko lang i-share ang bad experiences namin at ng friends ko dito sa australia to raise awareness na hindi porket nandito na sa Aus eh all things are good. First time po namin mag-work abroad ng asawa ko. Parehas po kami PR.

We came here in Sydney last March 2020, nakakuha ng job after two weeks as drafters. Kami ng husband ko are structural engineers in ph. As in may F**k lahat ng sentence nya.

Another story, yung friend namin is nakapasok sa isang company Lebanese din may-ari, as civil engineer, same feeling two weeks lang sya tumagal. Lagi nagmumura at sumisigaw hahaha

@xiaolico tiis tiis na lang, @zekemadr actually may isa pa akong friend na under din ng lebanese na company, gusto na din nya umalis. hindi naman sa pagiging racist pero 3 out of 3 na kakilala ko including kami bad experience under Lebanese na boss. hahaha yung iba describe pa parang nasa hell sila. For me kahit normal lang sa kanya ang pagmumura, hindi healthy yung environment dito.

Ayoko rin maging racist pero don't work for Mid Eastern bosses and family businesses. Alam ko mahirap maging choosy ngayon pero check the background of the company thoroughly. Ang problema sa Pinoy, although can be our positive too, hindi marunong mag reklamo in the right way. Like now, you are complaining here, but did you raise this to your HR already? Are there any labor violations? Nasa first world na kayo, mas protected kayo jan ng mga batas nila kesa dito na naging ugali natin na hayaan na lang kasi alam nating walang mangyayari.

Been working with various A/E consultants since 2008, "F" word for them is sort of an expression. Now, in a new role, almost everyday; every hour, we hear this word. It became a norm that it has now become nothing.
If those words were directed towards you because of work related issues or frustration on you; well then that's a different story.
As what mentioned by @Kaidan, you can raised this immediately with your HR, for sure clauses were mentioned on your employment contract regarding these kind of issues (harassment, bullying). Silence will bring nothing. Speak up.

Normally kasi if ganyan, I would say, madami naman jobs sa au. It’s not as hard humanap ng work. You have to trust your resume and your skills. Of course you have to trust your savings as well na you have more than enough habang bakante ka. Kaso May pandemic, I don’t think the job market is currently hot. Kaya Tama, tiis muna. As soon as matapos pandemic, iwan mo na yan.

i have a lebanese colleague, mahilig tlga sila sa f-word, since i also been to singapore, kasi mas toxic ang environment dun both chinese and indian bosses, in my experience.

tiis muna habang pandemic, you can definitely have a better working environment here, hopefully soon.

My exact same thoughts sir @Captain_A . Working abroad is very different from working in Ph talaga. Different work cultures kasi. I’ve also gone through that same feeling na ‘survival mode’ lang when i first came here to SG.. & you’re right, feeling ko mas matindi yung ibang lahi na na-mention. Hehe
Pero sabi nga nila, @ali0522 if it doesn’t work for you, you can always find a new job after this pandemic streak. Kaya nyo yan
    fighting! 🙂

Yup. Different countries, different culture. Gusto ko rin malaman kung ung F bomb ba is directly addressed to you or baka expression lang talaga. If expression, I would shrug it off. Currently working in Japan (Tokyo), and so far Japanese bosses and colleagues seem to be the calmest and kindest. But I do hear some Japanese bosses na may temper, but I have not encountered them personally. I also worked for a Chinese boss in Malaysia, pala mura din sila. Sigawan sa meeting, sigawan sa site. lol

@barryco i think more of an expression naman po, naghahanap pa rin ng malilipatan habang andito pa kami kasi recently, 3 staff nanaman ang aalis, hindi sa dahil sinibak kundi sa toxic environment sila ang umalis.

Hmm kinakabahan tuloy ako haha. Di pa ako nakaranas na magwork abroad. Puro business trip lang. I have been to melbourne once and the people at the host company were all nice to me.

This is my opinion ha. Nasa NSW ako. IT industry ako. I still say Mas madali maghanap ng work dito kaysa sa pinas. So wag ka kabahan.

So wag ka kabahan.

Wow thanks! Nabawasan ang worry ko ng konti hehe. My husband and I are both in the IT industry. More on Analyst developer sya tapos ako Systems Analyst.

Keri lang yan guys, na-timingan nio lang cguro ung ganyang boss, same sa dati kong work dito sg parang martial law pag anjan ung boss lakas sumigaw tsaka magmura natatakot nga kmi baka atakihin bumukagta nalang lolz, but on a serious note madami naman ako natutunan sa work tsaka thru God's grace nakalipat naman sa ibang company na may sobrang peaceful na working environment at napakakalmadong boss. Kaya aun kaya nio yan lalo PR na kau 😄👍

Yeah, malaki chance na you will be fine. Of course walang guarantees, Pero good gamble yan. Siguro yung una job Baka might take longer than expected kasi wala kayo local experience sa resume niyo. Pero maka chamba kayo ng isang interview, I’m sure makukuha kayo nun. Then afterwards, you don’t even have to wait for a year, look for a job na with a better salary and more in line sa background niyo. Kunyari mag call centre kayo, mag tech support kayo. If mag retail kayo, hanap kayo yung Medyo computer related. If you are not in a rush naman dahil May enough ipon kayo, mga 2 levels down siguro Kung anong level ka sa pinas, makukuha niyo yan. And if walang mangyari, puwede naman umuwi. At most you lose a year. Pero ako personally I think, 2-3 months, malabo Di kayo maka hanap ng IT job. Good luck again :)

here is the link ng site wherein you can check kung may workplace violation na nangyayari sa inyo:

    https://www.fairwork.gov.au/employee-entitlements/bullying-and-harassment

goodluck sa jobunting, hopefully next employer nyo ay maging ok na para maging all good na.

Wala akong first hand information eh kasi nasa pinas pa ako. Waiting for my invitation.
From what I heard from my agent hindi daw affected ang engineering and IT industries sa pandemic. Yung mga nasa hospitality are morbidly affected. The International students were also affected sa mga jobs.
The hospitality industries are still badly affected until now. So meron tayong possible na work doon.

Indian are highly skilled and highly educated people. Ofcourse, they will consider pinoys as competitor kasi masipag tayo at mabait na tao.

It's Aug/Sep is hiring season for Christmas casual roles, so maybe things are indeed getting better for some, but I wouldn't say all. Some businesses have opened up in Sydney, including retail and hospitality (lots of Sydney's COVID hotspots are related to hospitality because restaurants and pubs have opened up).

I moved here 2yrs ago, single, wala ding kamaganak or kilala dito but so it turn out okay naman.. with regards sa work I'm in IT industry din at ang masasabi ko hindi kasing dami ng openings before but marami pa din maski papano though syempre you have to be competitive din para mapansin ka dito.. advice ko lang din sa mga pupunta pa lang dito na wag maging mapili muna sa work ang importante makakuha ng local experience at wag maubos ang pocket money. Ano pala field mo sa IT?

I moved here in Adelaide 2 years ago. IT ako, Software Quality Assurance. I've worked with 2 Indians before, okay naman sila (dalawang babae), medyo competitive pero competitive din kasi ako so di ako affected hahahaha! Wala akong bad experience sa work. Just show them what you can offer. Best of luck!
