do we have to attend the pre departure seminar for tourist visa to oz?

hi all

tourist visa granted to oz, do they need pre departure seminar before leaving the country?
i have heard that they need to attend the siminar since 2 months ago effect?
is that correct?
i did not see any news from bureau of immigration website about this changes

    @aussie2x : the seminar is for migrant visa holders only. it's not required for tourist visa holders. :)

    @aussie2x just finished attended PDOS.. one of the attendees has the same case as yours. you need to attend if your visa was sponsored by a Australian PR/citizen

    Hmmm alam ko din hindi na need seminar kasi meron ako relatives pupunta dito, pero tourist visa sila hindi sponsored so I don't know yun sa ganun case. :) Thanks for the info @sofabed.

    In my opinion there has to be a misunderstanding here... Tourist lang naman eh, just like if you go to Thailand, Singapore, USA, etc. I don't see any point if they require a seminar if you are sponsored by a citizen or a PR.

    Ano sasabihin nila sa seminar, how not to be scammed by touts? how to take good travel photo? ehehehe... :)

    My aunts went to Melbourne last week, both of them sponsored by a PR cousin. Wala naman seminar whatsoever.

    I myself would not want to go there... It is utterly a waste of time and money but we have no choice, kailangan pumunta ang wife mo otherwise di mapayagan ng immigration official na makalipad without the CFO sticker. Your kid naman, they have a separate session for them, kailangan din nila pumunta.

    wala nga lusot psychoboy...thanks for the update., i read the pdos or whateva you call it website..it says 13 years above have their own seminars., luckily my kiddos are 8yrs and below., it states they are exempted from attending.,although i do have to bring in their passports for stickering.

    @corleone - yeah, we lodged our EOI on end Sept and we got the invite to apply Oct1. immediately we filed our visa application. By november granted na...

    that was why I was surprised on your timeline... :) ours is actually common; mga ka-batch namin nag file more or less parehas din ang timeline.

    prior to my lodgement everyone was getting granted 6-12months...then i dont know what happened na.., i was in a special group of guys whom really got left behind., I even know of someone who got granted later than me.yet lodge ahead of me. i dunno maybe because of our chosen professions., maybe. this actually messed up all our plans to go. but thats another thread hehe

    but anyhow thats great news, good to hear everythang has speedied up.

    I am getting OT here but forgive my curiousity - ano ba profession mo? It could be because of that; meron daw kasi what they call Priority Group 5 or something who are in the bottom of the list; uunahin and nasa 1-4 group before they will be served...

    Anyway, what matters now is andiyan na and congratulations again!! :)
