Migrants who opted to Study (again!) in Australia

TasBurrfootTasBurrfoot OsakaPosts: 4,336Member
edited February 2013 in Working and skilled visas
Anyone here who studied in a local institution after moving down under as migrant?

Reason why I am asking is that I have heard a lot of stories about Filipino migrants in Oz who opted to do some learnings in order to be able to get some local qualifications.

I myself might be needing this hence I am already trying to find out how this goes.

Again, thanks! :)

Hi guys. I've been researching about education qualifications in Australia as I would like to upgrade my credentials when (or if) I get there. I came across this AQF table.

Since Advanced Diploma lang ang assessed sa akin, tama ba na ang next level na pwede kong i-take ay Australian Bachelor's Degree? Parang ang dating sa akin ay Tesda ang equivalent ng diploma and certificate courses and kung gusto ng higher education sa universities dapat pumasok (?). Meron bang nag-aral dito habang nagwo-work?

Allowed to work up to 20 hours per week but you have to apply in immigration to allow you to work. International student at temporary stay visa are not allowed to studies part time kailangan full time studies only for PR visa at Citizen ang allowed to studies part time. Marami nag aaral dito na nag wowork.

    goodluck

DO short courses give new migrants a good leverage in finding a job? I'm looking at short courses in RMIT. Balak ko makapag-aral sa gabi sana while working.

@psychoboy, thank u. i know it doesn't pay that well but in the long run it will pay off bec it has been my dream to be cooking european cuisine. i think it's better to take what u enjoy doing the most. but u know given another choice i would like to take up project management or anything related to trouble shooting (oh no, not the car! hahahah!) & decision making, business side, i mean. THAT is if i were still young. :-D. good luck to u as well.

Na curious ako sa statement mo @kenkoy when you said THAT is if i were still young - how young are you if you don't mind?

I myself, I don't consider myself young (at age of 30 turning 31 late this year) - I feel like the move to Australia might give me the opportunity to shift to another field if needed. :)

Same feeling goes for my wife.

@psychoboy, :-D old enough to be ur mom. just a side share: my son is the one sending me to school. hahah! a classic example of karma-karma lang talaga ang buhay. instead of not doing anything else, kaya hayun, all out support naman incl friends for employment. u better think of the best career shift u'd like to give a go. i had a hard time deciding between events management (i know a lot of the stuff already kasi media ako. this pays good.), baking (mahilig ako sa bread), & commercial cookery. my brain is so much into arts & some technical at times. food is art applied w/ techniques, other than passion, so i decided to give cookery a go. aged care came into mind kasi high paying job kaya lang, acc to a friend, so much physical stress. & on my end, ako ung tipong madaling maawa (baka maiyak lang ako during work. hahah!) at hindi ko rin siguro calling ang health services. project management at the last minute came into mind. un nga, age. i don't think may lugar pa ako sa biz management once done.

i enroled straight ahead to cert III. no need for I & II. when u are interviewed just say about ur passion & skills in cooking & that u want to explore more. once i have the time i will post all the actual expenses here kasi hindi lang ung naka post sa site nila ang gastos. may mga + + pa. btw, i was advised to pay in two. kumbaga, half-half except for some. bukas lilinawin ko pa sa klase ang ibang pluses. baka meron pa.

Hi, hindi pa ako migrant but I plan to take up my MBA in Melbourne once our visas are approved. I am currently waiting for my CPAA assessment and nakakagigil kasi may mga nababasa ako dito sa forums na strict ang CPAA sa assessments nila. I also plan to take any required tests (Professional/ Foundation level) by the CPAA in Singapore before relocating.

Pero kung may mga good paying odd jobs available in Melbourne once we are there, I will definitey forgo my MBA and will rather work odd jobs for 6 hours a day and enjoy the rest of the day with my family (wife and 2 kids).

Any idea kung ano mga good paying odd jobs in Melbourne? Somewhere in the range of $40-$50 per hour para at least my income na $4,800 per month ($40 x 6hrs x 20days). I can do accounting services or other manual work. :)

@LittleBoyBlue - to me add jobs can be waiting tables, grape/orange/apple picker, construction-related job, etc :) sanay na sanay kasi ako sa manual labor since bata (ani, bilad, kiskis ng palay) :))

@psychoboy - if ever sa accounting related jobs kasi I can see rates from $40-$50 per hour kaya mukhang okay na ako sa part-time work if ever. pagod na sa stress ng finance job e :) Still waiting for the CPAA assessment, hopefully I will receive it this week.

Okay din mag-aral if meron budget. Mas mura na ang tuition fees like sa TAFE if PR visa holder, as compared to international students. Haha.

Wow, if may $40/hr, super matutuwa nito si misis... :)

Pero honestly this may be for CPA/CA qualified accountant with local experience! :)

Too expensive for Uni Courses, TAFE Diploma and Advanced Diploma is cheaper.

Completed my Diploma of IT Networking (2011, 2 Semester, part-time) and Advanced Diploma of Network Security (2012, 2 Semester, part-time)

It was less than $2K per year. There is a rumor that Gov't funding on TAFE will be reduced next school year, that will make it expensive. If that would happen Graduate Certificate and Graduate Diploma will a lot better to those with bachelor degree overseas.

question for you/ or anyone na may alam:

i checked ung mga website ng TAFE, they require Academic ielts..

so ang question ko po, kailangan pa bang mag IELTS (Academic) ang PR? or pwede na ang GT IELTS na ginamit sa DIAC visa application?

or kung sinuswerte talaga, hindi na ba required ang IELTS for PR (for education/enrollment purposes)?

@kenkoy - Am just curious about your schooling... certificate 4 ba ito?

@lock_code2004 - is everyone qualified ba for concessional rate for TAFE course?
we may not be eligible for concession fee..

pero that fee that i mentioned above is the regular fee for PR/citizens.. it is government-subsidized..

tapos, iba pa ang concessional fee.. which is more than 50% off pa nung regular fee..
    bagsak presyo talaga.. haha..

    Regular TAFE Fee:
Advanced Diploma - $1,720 (one year) / $860 (one sem)
    Diploma - $1,432(one year) / $716 (one sem)
Certificate IV - $1,078 (one year) / $539 (one sem)
Certificate III - $793 (one year) / $396 (one sem)

    Concession fee
Students who receive one or more eligible Commonwealth benefits or allowances at the time of their enrolment may be eligible to pay a concession fee rather than the full TAFE NSW fee.

All TAFE NSW fees and charges are reviewed on a yearly basis and are subject to change.

In 2013, the concession fee is $100 per course enrolment.
