    Hello.

Sorry ha if this was asked already. Question lang po, is it really hard to find a job in AU if you're not there yet? Inisip ko kase mahirap magmove if wala kang kilala dyan and mataas ang possibility na madeplete agad ang resources if you move there jobless plus you have to pay for rent, utilities etc..lahat ng moolah palabas.

May nakaexperience ba makakuha ng job habang nasa labas pa ng AU? Ganu katagal before you found a job?

I was thinking if sufficient ung time kuniari approve na yung visa mo and waiting ka nlang mag initial entry, may nakakahanp ba ng job sa window na yun? Curious lang.

    Thanks.

Maghanap ng trabaho as in OFW or to stay here for good? Kung OFW, e talaga ngang dapat na magkatrabaho kayo agad agad kasi what's the point na pupunta kayo dito. Kung stay here for good, give yourself the chance to know and adapt sa lugar .

Yung friend ko may experience sa Banking for 10+ years pero naka-set na mind nya na hindi kaagad sya makakahanap ng work related sa job nya, so he accepted part time job for the mean time (barista, cleaning, messenger, etc). Pero in 3-4 months nagkawork din sya sa NAB as Systems Analyst. Kaya tyaga and dasal lang talga... also a matter of luck na rin...

Salamat @Khaosan_Road . Matagal pa naman kase dpa ko nagfile ng EOI pero as early as now my sisters who are here with me in SG are discouraging me to go to AU without a job. Salamat.

@yukie77 - just some suggestions, you have to expedite your application if you really want to go to australia. as most of us know, there will be a new set of rules (in which hindi natin alam right now what will be the changes) that will be in effect on July 1st....

And considering that it will be election year, baka ma apektuhan yung intake ng migration... baka lang! :)

kung plan mo talaga pumunta sa australia, best to do it as soon as possible.

thanks @psychoboy ! medio dinelay ko yung ielts ko kase naisip ko before d naman magmamadali that I forgot about the possibility that they may change some things sa points & sa ceiling occupation by July. Anyway hopefully one take lang ang IELTS pra umabot. End of March pa kase. Honestly gusto ko naman tlga, medio siguro now that things are getting done, as slow as it may seem, nagsisink in na this is for real, siguro ganun din feeling ng parents & older sisters ko kaya nagshshare sila mga comments nila which unintentionally implants more doubt in me ehehe. Thanks again!

    Hi Guys,
Question po para sa mga pips na nasa AU, I read from the other topics na one of the reasons kaya nde makakuha agad ng work is walang local experience. I've worked for AIG (CHARTIS) and twice din ako pinadala sa Melbourne, and was also with MACQUARIE Phils. Do you think this will help me land a job if ever I get through the process? TIA

They are looking for local experience - i.e. actual work in AU and not for AU company nor short term assignment in Australia...

Goodluck to all of us! :)

would it hurt if pag dating sa AU eh ibang linya ang mapasukan aside from the desired job?

    hi mga kababayan.
nandito din ako sa Sydney. job hunting.
may mineet ako kaninang recruiter kaso ang nega, sabi mahihirapan daw ako maghanap ng work kasi may work gap. well may time kasi na di ako nagwork habang pina-process yung papers ko.

sa mga IT particularly, gano katagal bago kayo nakahanap ng work?
yung iba ba sa inyo nag-odd jobs muna? what type? kasi itatry ko din kaso di ko lam anong format ba kasi syempre kung non-IT yun.

    thanks.
    goodluck to us jobhunters.
how long was your gap? we have a gap as well din kasi, 3 full months (Jan to March 2013) until our arrival on April.

    interested to know...
hi, sorry masyado ko nadala sa emosyon ko last time. feeling rejected kasi ako nung time na yan.
mabait naman yung recruiter, he was just being honest. nagulat lang ako na sinabi nya na i should try calling digital agencies kasi my last job was a media company pero sa IT yung dept ko.
well more than a year ang gap ko.

@Metaform you may want to check Gumtree. Marami don casual jobs. However, look for something that would still allow you to attend interviews. Mahirap din kasi mag absent ng sunod2x for interviews if you already have a job kahit casual lang. You might not get a good referral pag palagi kang absent sa work kahit casual lang.

Let me share the journey I had when I decided to migrate here, hopefully to inspire others.

When I left Pinas, I had a very stable job as a Manager in a multinational company. When I decided to migrate here, it was not necessarily out of dire need dahil maganda naman yong trabaho ko sa atin. I was financially ok. The company I worked for even tried to convince me to stay. When my family and friends asked me why move, I gave them the usual "quality of life" reason. While it is true, deep inside, it is the adventure that really pushed me. I am still single kaya siguro ganon. The risk is not that much compared to someone who is married with children, but the thought of starting all over again scared the hell out my friends and family considering my successful career in the Philippines.

I was already firmed with my decision to migrate though. Due diligence is important when it comes to making life changing decisions like migration that is why I made sure to prepare myself physically, financially, psychologically and spiritually. I told myself that with the qualifications I have, it would not be difficult to land a job in my field. However, at the back of my mind, I also prepared myself for odd jobs if things do not turn out smoothly.

I stayed with a friend when I arrived in Sydney. His family was so accommodating that I did not have to pay a cent for rent or food. Pero dahil hindi ako sanay na nakikitira, and the fact that my friend did not want me to chip in added to the pressure to look for work right away. Nahihiya kasi ako sa kanya kahit ilang ulit pa niya akong sinabihang I can stay with them until I am ready to move.

Hindi ko na mabilang kung ilang resume ang sinubmit ko starting on the day after I arrived, probably at least 10 resumes a day. At first medyo masakit when you get rejection replies specially that sa Pinas, modesty aside, I got all the jobs that I applied for. Nasanay na ako in the end, it made me feel numb na rin when it comes to rejection letters. But it never did come to me to question my competencies dahil alam ko naman kung ano yong capabilities ko. All the more that it encouraged me to apply for more jobs related or not related to my field.

The first interview I had, around three weeks after I arrived, was with an agent. He was so helpful. He guided me through the process of applying for jobs in Australia. He helped me improved my resume to get better results from Australian employers. At first, I really thought my resume already clearly outlined my competencies but I was proven wrong. I realized that there were still areas for improvement in terms of making it suitable to Australian employers.

Although I did not get the job that the agent represented me for, I moved on with a better resume in my hand and useful lessons from the interview. It gave me an idea on how people conduct interviews here which is way too different from my experience in Pinas, not necessarily in a positive way.

After hundreds of applications and rejections, I got my first job offer on my second interview with another company, though ironically, the resume I used in that application was the resume I prepared before I came to Australia. It was not the improved version yet.

The job I got had very little relevance to my course but it was office based and enough to support me with my living expenses while I continue to look for a job that is related to my course. I stayed in that job for more than a year before I finally landed a job that is related to my Engineering course. I never stopped sending resumes for job vacancies until I got my new job.

The job application process starting from the day I arrived here until I got my latest job is a humbling experience. My first job was not exactly an ideal job but it kept me moving.

For as long as you do not lose hope, and you continue to trust God's blessings, everything will come into place in due time.

@stolich18 I had a total of 10 interviews in the course of 18 months, 8 of which happened habang employed na ako in my first job here. Of the 10 interviews I had, I can say that only 2 were the kind of interviews that I expected from multinational companies. They are those who used Targeted Selection as a technique - comprehensive enough to cover all areas and very likely to capture your real competencies. You can research for this in the net if you are not yet familiar with this. The other 8 were a mixture of theoretical and personal interviews that provided little direction. Clearly, some of interviewers did not know what they were doing.

I can particularly remember an interviewer who focused on theories all throughout the interview to the point that I felt I have just been subjected to an oral exam. This is what I meant when I said way too different from what I experienced in Pinas. Though this is clearly not the right way of doing an interview, you cannot do anything but prepare for this type. Walang direction at all. As an interviewee you can guide them by giving responses that focus on your competencies kahit napa ka irrelevant na nong mga tanong.

I also tried submitting resumes when I was still the Philippines although not as many dahil busy din ako with my work at that time. It's good that you have experienced being interviewed by phone while you are still there, not all are given the same chance. There must be someting positive in your resume that caught their attention. Very rare lang yong ma hire from there pa lang. Among my circle of friends, isa lang ang maswerteng na interview and na hire from Pinas, the rest had their interviews here na. :)

My point is, don't get discouraged if hindi ka ma hire from there. While it is true that mas stressfree pag na hire dyan pa lang it is not a common case. What I would advise you to do is enjoy your remaining days there dahil pag nandito ka na, you would realize na all your good days in Pinas will forever be just good memories na lang, hindi na pwedeng ibalik pa. Cherish the time with your family and friends while nandyan ka pa. :)
