Choose any visa na malapit like 487 or 489, pagdating sa St. Luke's ipa adjust na lang sa kanila. show them your medical request from DHA.

Choose 489 as it is the closest. They will check your documents at the clinic.

I've read DHA's resources na about this, but seeking validation lang if tama pagkakaintindi ko: If Permanent Resident ka na sa Australia, your permanent residency does not expire naman, right? Either you proceed with citizenship so you can get an AU passport or you apply for RRVs to get in and out of the country.

But technically, the "permanent residency" part of the PR visa stays in place indefinitely, yung travel component lang ang nage-expire 5 years after grant, tama ba?

Tama sir, thats why getting PR sa AU is a dream come true for many.. once you get it, you change your life forever(more opportunities in life$ Its either you are PR forever (apply for re-entry) or Citizen lang naman ang choices.. :-)

Hi, I don't think it expires. Eto nabasa ko "Your Australia permanent residency can't expire but, its travel facility will expire after 5 years from the date your visa was issued."

Anyway, citizen na ko. When I applied ng citizenship, lagpas na 5yrs nung PR visa grant ko. Nag apply ako ng jobs with a pr visa na lagpas na ng 5yrs. I didn't apply for an RRV since ang understanding ko is I only need that if lalabas ako ng AU. So yun, nakakuha naman ako ng job. Na-approve naman citizenship ko. I don't think the PR visa will expire to be honest. This is based on my experience.

Travel facility on your permanent visa
When you are granted your first permanent visa, you are usually permitted a 5-year travel facility. This means you can leave and re-enter Australia as many times as you like in the 5 years from the date your permanent visa was granted, as long as your visa remains valid.
After 5 years, your travel facility expires. You will need to apply for and be granted either:
a Resident Return visa - if you wish to re-enter Australia as a permanent resident
Australian citizenship - if you wish to travel as an Australian citizen.

Ito ay assuming na you have stayed in Australia naman for a while. So, an RRV comes into the picture if gusto mo mag-travel abroad. It's more of a way to hold that PR status while you travel in and out, since wala ka pang Aus passport.

What I'm getting from the answers is that you don't need to "renew" the PR status but if you want to retain it while overseas, you need an RRV. Sorry, semantics level na 'to, hope I didn't confuse anyone.

Tama ka na you only need an RRV to leave & re-enter AU after the travel facility of your visa expires. As Rhea pointed out, not everyone is eligible for an RRV so the problem is if you are outside the country & cannot re-enter as a PR. Wala nang use yung PR in that case even if it never actually expires. May nabasa ako in a different forum na he kept renewing his RRV without actually moving to AU. May business kasi sya in his home country so he only comes here for vacations. After 5 renewals yata sinabihan na sya ng DHA na that will be the last renewal and if he doesn't move, di na sya ulit bibigyan ng RRV so that will effectively be the end of his PR.

I quickly replied earlier and now re-reading what I commented it actually caused confusion. To orient everyone reading this, the visa is aka travel facility.

To set the records straight, the permanent residence does not expire but the visa (the actual travel facility) does. My comment referred to the visa. I realised the use of this term created confusion. It is important to renew your PR via RRV before the visa expires to enable you to travel in and out of Australia. There is a list of requirements for RRV which is another topic…if you don’t meet the requirements then you won’t be able to renew your PR.

To say that once you’ve got PR all good na, just be mindful that that’s not always the case. There are situations where you can lose your PR, again that’s another topic.

Anyway, I’m not quite sure why this is a topic of interest. I could imagine Filipinos would want to be Australian citizens as soon as possible so just aim to apply for citizenship before the PR visa expires to spare you from figuring out whether or not PR is indefinite 😆

Hehe, kailangan may definition of terms ng "expired". Hopefully someone na may RRV mag reply dito. I can tell you based on my experience only. I understand, na sa 5yrs ng pr visa, I think 4yrs ka nandito or nakatira dito sa au before you can apply for a citizenship. That is not applicable for everyone naman. Like ako, I think beyond 5yrs na PR visa ko before ako naging eligible to apply for citizenship. So sa mga nag RRV, simple question is this. When you applied for a job, wala naman option sa status na RRV. Either citizen, pr or work visa. Basically chose PR, what proof did you send to show na PR kayo? Yung RRV ba or yung PR visa na beyond 5yrs. Ako kasi, I don't think the RRV actually replaces your PR visa na beyond 5yrs. I think yung RRV is only para you can enter AU. That's it. Like I mentioned, beyond 5yrs na PR visa ko when I applied for a citizenship. Before I applied for a citizenship, wala naman nawala sa akin. Medicare ko takbo. Centrelink ko still gives me subsidy for my child's day care. Nag apply ako and got approved ng mortgage submitting that PR visa that was beyond 5yrs. I agree with you.

Have not entered AU yet as a migrant, but based on my research, PR status/visa never expires. It's the travel component of the PR visa that does.

So, two ways to go from there to be able to travel without hassle/legally to and fro, is either you apply for RRV or citizenship. For whatever reason you are not eligible for citizenship, RRV is there for you to prove that you are a PR of AU and to have a facility to go back after an overseas trip, dahil nga expired na yung travel component ng PR visa mo.

Now, if there is not a need to travel, one can still stay legally in AU under the same PR visa granted more than 5yrs back with its travel component expired because the visa itself is still active as a PR.

EDIT: This is in the context that you stayed onshore for a significant amount of time that is enough for you to be eligible for an RRV. In other contexts/situation, marami pang eligibility/criteria yung RRV, but that's where it gets tricky and complicated as Rhea and the others pointed out.

To me, I resonate more with the citizenship end goal, sobrang hassle ng mga visa-related errands. I'd rather stay/travel lawfully and with the peace of mind in AU.

I bought my house again submitting that PR visa beyond 5yrs. Got job offers with that beyond 5yrs visa. Not to sure na tama memory ko ha, pero I think yun din sinubmit ko to get a licence and to prove na PR ako para maging citizen anak ko when he was born here. Based on my experience, again my experience alone ha. I didn't leave australia after nag 5yrs na PR ko. I did not feel that it expired. I do not think it expires and entry visa lang siya. If hindi ka naman lalabas ng AU, i don't see the point why you need to spend so much for a RRV. Mahal din yan ha

Have not entered AU yet as a migrant, but based on my research, PR status/visa never expires. It's the travel component of the PR visa that does.

So, two ways to go from there to be able to travel without hassle/legally to and fro, is either you apply for RRV or citizenship. For whatever reason you are not eligible for citizenship, RRV is there for you to prove that you are a PR of AU and to have a facility to go back after an overseas trip, dahil nga expired na yung travel component ng PR visa mo.

Now, if there is not a need to travel, one can still stay legally in AU under the same PR visa granted more than 5yrs back with its travel component expired because the visa itself is still active as a PR.

EDIT: This is in the context that you stayed onshore for a significant amount of time that is enough for you to be eligible for an RRV. In other contexts/situation, marami pang eligibility/criteria yung RRV, but that's where it gets tricky and complicated as Rhea and the others pointed out.

To me, I resonate more with the citizenship end goal, sobrang hassle ng mga visa-related errands. I'd rather stay/travel lawfully and with the peace of mind in AU.

I think for example nag first entry ka lang then umalis uli ng Australia, then kelangan mo makabalik before the PR visa expires. After that, I think you really have to comply with the requirements para maka kuha ng RRV. So parang (most conservative for another 5yrs RRV) eh magstay ka sa Aus ng two years then apply sa RRV for another 5-year travel facility. Tama ba? hehe

Does this mean na if after 5yrs na yung PR visa, you cannot stay as a PR na in AU? Is that what you meant, I don't think that is accurate. Apologies if I misunderstood what this meant.

This was also why I asked. I wanted to make sure na yung 5-year validity of the PR visa does not mean na after 5 years, your PR status goes null and you'd have to renew your PR status in Australia through an RRV. Ito ay assuming na you have stayed in Australia naman for a while. So, an RRV comes into the picture if gusto mo mag-travel abroad. It's more of a way to hold that PR status while you travel in and out, since wala ka pang Aus passport.

What I'm getting from the answers is that you don't need to "renew" the PR status but if you want to retain it while overseas, you need an RRV. Sorry, semantics level na 'to, hope I didn't confuse anyone.

Hehe, kailangan may definition of terms ng "expired". Hopefully someone na may RRV mag reply dito. I can tell you based on my experience only. I understand, na sa 5yrs ng pr visa, I think 4yrs ka nandito or nakatira dito sa au before you can apply for a citizenship. That is not applicable for everyone naman. Like ako, I think beyond 5yrs na PR visa ko before ako naging eligible to apply for citizenship. So sa mga nag RRV, simple question is this. When you applied for a job, wala naman option sa status na RRV. Either citizen, pr or work visa. Basically chose PR, what proof did you send to show na PR kayo? Yung RRV ba or yung PR visa na beyond 5yrs. Ako kasi, I don't think the RRV actually replaces your PR visa na beyond 5yrs. I think yung RRV is only para you can enter AU. That's it. Haha, fair enough. Though, sa 4yrs na yan pwedeng maraming mangyari pa rin sa migration scene sa Oz. We will really never know; they could change things up in the future.

Tama naman that you don't know what the future holds.

Just to add, citizenship isn't really an issue for Pinoys because we have the option for dual citizenship. Ang napapansin ko na nangangailangan talaga ng RRV are those who come from countries that do not allow dual citizenship. Some of them opt not to get AU citizenship because they have significant interests in their home country, usually businesses and land, that's why they regularly need to apply for an RRV to travel either back to their home country or to go on holiday in another country.
