IT Professionals in Australia

Hi! I would like to check if there are any IT professionals here from Australia. Just want to ask what the industry is like, job market, etc.

I'm planning to pursue a Masters of Information Technology Studies at ANU (1 year program) and was hoping I can get some advice on how to go about finding a job after the program.

Thanks!

I would suggest you to study atleast 2 years. This will satisfy DIACs minimum requirement. I did 2 year study on Masters in IT as well. It took me a while to get a job related to my course. I finished October 2009 and got the job November 2010. My student visa was supposed to expire April 2010 but because I studied 2 years, I got the Graduate Temporary Resident where it allows you to stay in Australia for 18 months to work/study/Professional Year. I finished IT sa PI and had IT experience, the problem here (1) madami competition (Indians/South Americans); (2) They ask for Local Experience (3) Visa - if they ask you about the validity of your visa and nalaman nila it will expire soon, umaayaw na sila.

Mas maganda din magstudy ka sa State na mataas ang demand ng IT. Any questions, let me know.

@therealaids, I did IT sa CQU in Brisbane, lahat kame International students. sa ibang UNI ata pwede mong maging classmates ang mga locals. Madali lang mag aral dito, walang masyadong pressure. Mas mura Masters dito kesa Bachelor. Bachelor = 3 yrs, 4 subjects per term. Masters = 2 yrs, 3 subjects.

@aolee, are you in PI? If you are, pa-assess ka muna sa ACS para malaman mo kung qualified ka to nominate IT and qualified to get 60 points. You might also want to consider IELTS. Once you get 60 points from ACS + 25 points ata for IELTS (if you get at least 7.0 on all bands), mataas ang chance to get 120 points. If you need more info, happy to help.

i think madami naman opening for web, pero mostly contract positions

@bonzi Good am po, sori dami tanong.

Same rin ba ung security dyan compared d2?

Another thing. Tungkol po sa sahod. Malaki pa rin ba take home mo dyan compared nung nagwowork k d2?

@eldrinofsoalim The truth is that it's a bit tricky if you don't have local experience. Your likely path will be to find lower level IT work and work your way up. The job market also depends on the type of IT roles you are after--or more importantly, which ones you are qualified for.

IT companies rarely sponsor foreigners mainly because there are enough IT professionals in Australia. Your best bet is to apply for residency and apply for work once you can stay permanently. Be minded that Australia is not the USA back before the GFC when they would sponsor anyone with an IT degree. The first thing they'll ask is if you have permanent resident visa. Kung wala, they won't entertain you at all.

As a general guideline, you should study for at least 2 years before you are qualified to apply for a PR visa. Good luck!

@ziggyboy i think that explains why I rarely find company that offers sponsorship. i think this scenario is not only happening there in Australia but as well as for other countries. thanks for the tip ziggyboy.

@aolee & @bonzi, same here! d2 aq ngaun sa Sg and plan to work there at Au by next year maybe. Any advise pls for civil engineering opportunities and basic life style dyan compare d2 sa Sg.

Meron po ba kaung narinig dyan n 1mo leave annually with pay ah (same like in UAE when I was there)

Also, in PhP, magkano ung take home mu (net po) or kahit ung mga ibang kakilala mu dyan..

Thanks! Hoping for your reply.. :D
