Based from my experience, I was never asked for local experience.. Since I came here 6 weeks ago I got 6 interviews already, once per week. I got the job on my 5th interview...
and the best thing is that, I was hired as an IT entry level position dahil yung skills ko is totally zero in Australia.

i was even applying for casual odd jobs and volunteer work since i came to overcome that dreaded "local experience" but i never got any call or response from them

I can relate to @emcee14 I was unemployed for 7 months as well but I didn't loose hope good thing I got friend who supported me in any way they can. One way to deal with that "local experience" thing is to volunteer.

I have to acknowledge @sohc for that malaking factor a job search ko ung pag-volunteer ko sa kanila kahit saglit lang. Yun nga lang napalayo ako nang konti andito ako sa Melbourne ngayon but still I'm happy that I finally got a job after 7 months of searching.

@ozziness no need to do that in my case sir kasi permanent resident ako. :-)
and pagkakaalala ko mejo maluwag na ang SA ngayon. kung di ka makakuha ng work sa SA pwede ka lumipat sa ibang state kung gusto mo they won't force you to stay.

that's good news @rbolante para sa mga state sponsored lalo sa SA kasi di naman tulad sa WA na mas madami opportunity.

thanks bro sa info. good luck sa new job!

There is TAFE and there are other short courses that you can enrol into. While looking for a job, I grabbed the opportunity to study "Forklift Training". I got an idea on how hiring works, e.g "dress to impress" lagi kahit anong baba ng position and how hard it is even for locals to find a job. Also, I got the change to mingle with other people around.

I started working after 6 weeks, thanks to AutoCAD which is a universal tool, so no need for local experience. The point is baka meron kayong experience na used globally, yun muna siguro gamin nyo kahit sa entry level lang, then look for a better job kapag naka settle na kayo.

Hi! I even experienced it myself! Acceptance is the main key here..accept that were in a different world and learn to adjust since sobrang blessed prn tayo kasi npakaganda ng bansang napasukan natin..I cant complain that much as well..nkakafrustrate lang minsan pero we dont have any other choice but to move forward and do something about it..like sa case ko, tho iba ang visa ko, I took my time in understanding their culture, language, how they communicate etc..since partner visa ang sakin, ang main purpose ko tlg at first ay ang makasettle muna ng maayos dito then hanap ng kahit anong work then hanap ng work na inline sa field ko..im on my way there but at least im moving forward..bsta tyaga lng at natural lng na madissapoint ka but keep in mind just to move on agad agad lol! Hope that helps! ;-)

Yung experience ko dati yung nagaapply ako for work sa seek.

Everyday I used to apply for up to 10 companies. Ubos oras talaga kasi you have to modify your cover letter and resume to fit the requirements of the company everytime.

And don't veer away sa work/career na gusto mo kasi mahihirapan ka na bumalik dun in the end.

So nag apply ako and nag dasal with an expectant heart.

So what i'm trying to say here is. madaming companies na habol ang is local experience. but at the same time meron din hindi.
