    1) Should I include my family in my application right away? (wife, 3 kids, my mother perhaps?) or;
    2) Should I put myself first and include them afterwards, maybe after I secure a steady job in Oz?
    1. Include them ... imagine if you would have to go through all the hassle applying for a visa twice if you filed them separately

    2. 1 year should give you enough time to get a a Job in oz then have them follow you

    @JCsantos

    I see. Thanks.

I read somewhere that dependents above 18+, I have to pay a 2nd installment for them if the dependent cannot demonstrate a functional English.
The alternative way is to have the dependent enrolled in IELTS and have a grade not lower than 4.5 or, provide a certification of English.... from the institution he/she attended.

In the case of my mother who is 67 years old and an elementary undergraduate, but can understand/converse in English, can we still send her IELTS to take the test?

Worry about your mother later .. anyway you can apply your mom a tourist visa ( there was a new legislation that you can apply your parent a tourist visa for a maximum period of 5 years ) at the same time you can apply her a different Visa , I am not sure what it is called according to the requirements if most of her siblings are overseas you can use that visa class ...

from memory also they are not required to have an english proficiency

    Thanks @JCsantos.

Our initial plan is to have my wife apply for 189 and tag me as her dependent (due to me not having enough work experience).

Are there work restrictions for dependents? Like a dependent cannot apply for work for a specified period of time?

All I can see in DIAC are only criterias to qualify as a dependent-partner.

    Thanks again!

    Thanks @lock_code2004 !

You mean to say if I chose #1 (wife, kids, parent), I will have to pay the entire Visa fee for all of us right away?

What are documents to provide to prove the dependency of one's parent to their child?
    Our scenario is:
    - I am an only child (mother-side :))
    - My mother is single (never got married)
    - My mother is a senior citizen
    - Has retired from her work as a seamstress
    - Been living with us (my family) for 3 years now

Too bad the idea of living in Australia came in a bit late. If only I knew about this earlier, I could have saved a lot from the Visa fee alone. Heartbreaking. SMH.
yes, you will have to pay visa application fee for all person/s included in the application.

about your mother as a dependent/included in your application, there is a separate thread for that... please check/read from page 1..

Kami, bahala na si batman, will be bringing our 3 boys! 2 kids (a 5 and 3 1/2) and a baby ( 7 months)... we both plan to resign from work (sayang din ang separation pay). I already sold our house and will be selling all our stuff and our car before we leave... Hopefully this could get us by until we land a job. Worse-comes-to-worst I am willing to work odd jobs para di maubos savings...

Anybody here who has any idea on how much benefits we could get? Checking the human services calculator, it seems that we'll get roughly 900 aud per fortnight (family tax etc)...

    Hello Sir @jayp!

You know what? Our initial plan is as same as yours, except for the selling of the house/car part.. :D
Could be happier if we could go there as 1 pact. Eventually we decided to entrust our 3 kids' welfare to our mothers until we are financially settled, hopefully in 1 year time.

Good luck on your plan. All the best! :)

@altuser41, kaya nyo yan... Actually, last June 6 pa nabigay visa nmen and back then we were also thinking na mauna muna kme mag asawa ng July to find a job first and balikan mga bata, or mag entry muna kaming lahat for about a month ng September then balik pinas muna then balik OZ nlng next year... but option number 1's disadvantage is mawawalay kme sa mga anak nmen so mejo bka di nmen kaya and financially ganun din kasi gagastos din naman sila dito dba... option number 2 naman is magastos, based on my computation, gagastos ako ng mga 300-400k on that 1 month stay e dagdag puhunan na rin naman yun kung titira na kami jan....

In the end we decided na we go as a family, anyway we have a bit of assets (house, car) and savings (stocks, savings) din naman kahit pano and the supposed benefits from centrelink that we might get since we have 3 kids, also may makuha pa pala kami sa separation pay as well as sa pag ibig (thanks to this forum where I learned that!)... Also, life is an adventure, so go na kami!

@jayp, nakakainggit yung thrill ng ganyang setup hahaha...

natuwa lang ako sa post mo kasi eversince mahook up ako dito sa pinoyau, wala pa akong nababasa na magmimigrate / nagmigrate na family of 5, kaya nung umpisa parang atrasado ako kung ipupursue pa ba hehehehe..

well...since nasa step 1 pa lang naman kami (gathering educ/employment docs), anong malay namin baka kailangan ulit namin bumalik sa drawing board and assess the Pros and Cons (version 2).

    Life is an adventure indeed.

Napakablessed nyo at may relatives/family kayo dito. :)

Anyway, regarding your daughter, wag kayong mag-alala about her English. Actually ang mga bata dito, after ilang months lang mas magaling na mag-english than their parents. hehehe ang goal ng mga parents dito normally, turuan magtagalog mga anak nila kase nakakalimutan na nila eventually. Un ang challenge dito. Kaya ung anak ko, tinatagalog ko, 2 years old pa lang sya. hehehe Kahit tinatagalog ko andami nya nang nappickup na english words. :) May law ngapala ang Au na by 6 years old dapat enrolled na ang bata and pumapasok na sa school. :)

Nasa stage na rin po kami ng paglipat jan sa WA at gaya ng tanong dito, which is better - kung pupunta ba ang buong pamilya jan o isa isa lang muna hanggang makahanap ng work at makasettle?

sa case namin, gusto ko na ring i-risk na buong pamilya na lang kami pumunta jan para less worry and probably less gastos. my pondo nmn po na enough for maybe 3-6 months. ang tanong lang po kung paano makakakuha ng accommodation (house rental) na wala pang work. any input sa mga nkagawa na nito na wala din kakilala jan sa oz? my nababsa kasi ako dati na kelangan masatisfy yung points system sa house rental.

Nung nag initial entry kami nun ng wife ko nakahanap ako ng matutuluyan via the yahoo group, Filipino family .. pinaparentahan nila yung isang room nila... siguro naka 3-4 months ako dun .... then nakahanap ng work lumipat ulit ...

Kami we will be doing our initial entry this Nov. kasama ko na yung wife ko and 3 y/o daughter, though meron na kaming matutuluyan for the first 2 months and I have an online job, I still loose sleep because of uncertainties na pwedeng mangyari. All the best for everyone!

So ang 2 options lang is either mauna kaming magasawa or buong pamilya na kami lilipat. I think in terms of cost, halos same lang ang 2 options. And preference ko talaga is buo kami pupunta. Pero I may be missing something. Paki advise naman po, if you were in our case kung ano ang gagawin nyo. Thanks.

Option 1: kami muna, habol nalang si baby (2yrs old sya by the time lilipat kami)
+: flexible accommodation and no schedule constraint, kahit pauli ulit ang ulam ok lng.

    Option 2: buong pamilya
+: magkakasama kami, can claim benefits
-: pressure maghanap ng work, baka mahirap makakuha ng slot sa childcare, added cost ng childcare although my rebate naman

@nylram_1981, i'm just thinking how i may help my husband and figuring out our expenses if we are already living there in Oz. Right now po kasi housewife po ako since i stop working in 2008 for the kids. Now i don't know pag nandyan n kmi sa Oz, although pwede nman akong mag work ulit. You know what i mean cguro po if the life we are having could be the same in Oz.
