Nakakalungkot isipin, most of my olds friends here in SG are either in OZ now or decided to go back home sa pinas. "SG dont want us or doesnt need me".
Tough times kasi sa SG ngayon boss @Admin... Good if you've got a job there so let the good times roll however mahirap makahanap ng work (or even renew an existing pass).

Looks like the locals have finally manage to get the attention of the ruling party this time.

Ngayon lang ako nagka-time basahin 'tong thread na 'to pero super informative! Agree with most of the sentiments re Ph and Sg, looking forward to experiencing the good things (maybe a bit of the bad too, for learning lang) in Au.

Share ko lang: Me and my fiance (who is French) met in Sg, and we had different plans initially. Ako, tulad ng karamihan sa atin, was not planning to stay long here. Medyo late na ako lumipat dito eh (2011), after pa ng eleksyon kaya sobrang hirap nung umpisa. My job here is so-so, I had a better job in Pinas (title-wise and more fulfilling), pero yung perang kinikita ko rito sa Sg hinding-hindi ko kikitain sa Pinas. Si fiance naman, gusto sana mag-retire dito. Tulad ng maraming ang moh (hehe) he thought it would be a good place to retire kase malaki nga sweldo nya rito.

We're sick and tired of Sg as well. So... we thought we need to get out of Sg soon. The sooner, the better.

We thought of Pinas, kaso mukhang hindi nga ganung ka-promising ang situation ng Pinas diba. Plus di rin makakahanap ng trabaho si fiance dun that will match what he's earning here in Sg.

We wanted Canada initially. Of course he's French, e di gusto nya doon! Pero ang tagal daw nung proseso. E di ba nagmamadali nga kami. Baka next time na lang siguro.

We also thought of NZ, pero job prospects nya doon mukhang malabo. Sa akin, may chance.

Eventually we decided to go for Au kase mukhang okay job prospects namin pareho, tsaka mabilis and straightforward ang proseso ng pag-apply. :)

@cholle good choice! You can try out Oz first then later on kapag naayos na ang sistema ng Canada.. reevaluate your options then move again if needed.. but most na nagstay sa Oz ay hindi na umalis yata... hehehe.. thanks for sharing your story..

    To balance the perspective.

Bkit nag stay sa Austrlaia for good?
    - mosty becaue of the medical reason

Nagkasakit at kailangan ng manintenance checkup at gamot..... no choice kundi mag pa balik balik sila sa australia for treatment. Eventually, bumalik na ulit ng australia dahil napapadalas na yung medical treatment at mas mura or subsidize yung gamot.

FOR NOW, maganda pa medical system ng austrlaia. Pero who knows inthe future kung kaya pa ma sustain ng AUS and FREE medical check up at mga free or discounted na gamot.

    - Starting next year, mag start na sila na co-payment s medical check up. Same in US, may co-payment ka babayaran kung nag papacheck up.

It is good and bad.... good kasi magdadalwang isip yung mga nag papa check up na hindi naman kailangan at nangaabuso sa sistema.

Nothing beats life in the Philippines!

Panay struggles. Pain. Kahirapan.

But that what makes us human naman db,,,

People can be perfectly happy whether sa pinas, sa US, Australia, Canada, etc.

I have same sentiments several years ago when i first came here sa Singapore. Two years lang uwi na makaipon lang ng konti kasi mas masarap sa pinas. I don't even consider changing citizenship. Sobra akong makabayan at sentimental.

Pero eto ako ngaun, going 6 years na and no plans to go back and spend my productive years in Pinas. Bakasyon, oo pwede, pwedeng pwede. Iba pa rin kasi talaga sa Pinas. And i'm looking forward to get that Australian passport 4 years from now. Its my decision, not necessarily because i hate pinas or being pinoy. I believe It will be best for me and my family.

There are a lot of things na natutunan ko being an OFW for 6 years. Kung pagdating ng araw gusto nya sa pinas, then its his choice, which i don't have before.

Another thing that makes me want to migrate and live outside Pinas is the feeling of unknown/ uncertainty. Life is an adventure , an exciting a journey and i am looking forward to it. Ayoko na may mga regrets ako pagdating ng araw, and have more "what ifs".

    Goodluck again.

I started gathering my stuffs for applying to canada.. then biglang nagbago yung criteria ng saskatchewan, 1 week when I was about to lodged my application.. so I think hindi talaga sya para sakin..

2009 pa lang i was already looking at applying for PR in Australia, but I lack points don't have the funds back then... this time sana magtuloy-tuloy na.

i like Oz better, although mas geographically isolated sya, i don't know pero may pakiramdam ako na mas remote physically and socially ang canada, though kapitbahay lang nya ang US.

Immigration system in Canada for FSW is improving na. Yung roommate ko meron na passport request and last May lang sya nagpasa. Most likely processing now is less than a year na rin. Kung last year open ang accountants most likely nag Canada ako, pero destiny ko na yata mag Australia. Well best choice na rin last year. Solid din mga pinoy groups sa Canada. Yep, geographically isolation isa as problem sa Australia. Pero we have a big continent naman to explore hahaha. Hoping na sana may extra savings to travel to other continents/ countries.

Yep, its more of the corruption culture, political system, weak laws and implementation plus poverty and paglaki ng population.

Well unless mag gyera siguro at masakop for fresh start or kaya outsource nalang gov't natin hahaha. O kaya gawing independent state nlang bawat lugar (i.e. Davao, Zambo).

Dagdag ko lang din... dati I used to eye Singapore.

First time ko pa lang pumunta doon, back in 2002, I found the place too expensive, sterile and artificial, with all the man-made attractions and all. Although napaka-unlad and napakalinis.

Pero ngayon, parang wala na kong naririnig na masyadong maganda from anyone i know who is working and living there.

Actually Singapore is a very nice place, lalo na sa mga "single". Hindi na lang maganda ngaun kasi naghihigpit ung gov't in favor of locals. So yung policies ngaun hindi na favorable sa mga work pass holders, even to some existing PR's. Pero patuloy pagunlad nila, 5 years ago wala pa yan mga gardens of the bay, MBS, yellow/blue mrt lines, etc. I have been to Jakarta, Melbourne, Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok, and i would say kakaiba talaga SG. Malinis, maayos, organised and well planned) . Parang naka landscape talaga ung buong tiny country na ito and halos brand new makikita mo sa paligid (hdbs/cars/ walang sira sirang kalye/kalsada well except maybe some areas in Geylang).

And also, after several years in SG you get bored na rin. If you have family, you might think na better to move somewhere else na din. May priorities changes na rin kasi after several years kaya i need to move out na and besides i am not PR here. But still lots of people enjoy the convenience and modern living in Singapore. I can also state lots of things na better ang Singapore as compared to Canada/Australia like crime rate (almost zero kahit petty crime dito is very rare), food (lots of choices), disposable income (low tax rate/ buo sweldo, cheaper cost of living as compared to salary, madaming ways to save), shopping (madaming malls/hindi nagpapahuli sa bago/branded items), night life, technology, maybe weather (weather quite similar to pinas less typhoons and earthquakes), convenience to travel, just to name a few. You can even actually go to pinas everymonth if you like sa lapit at daming budget airlines.

kahit san may racist talaga. My friend in AU visited us yesterday here in SG, she did confirm there's racism but it's up to you how to react. like for her case, she managed to prove her self in the company and gained the respect of her local colleagues.

Racist are everywhere naman. In may almost 6 years in Sg i never encountered any direct racism here. Discriminations maybe to some extent sa jobs/pr approvals.

Sa personal impressions /observations naman sa tao here is my ranking.
    1. Jakarta - people in indonesia are generally nice and have high regards to pinoy. They really like our brothers/ sisters. 2. Melbournians - i saw lots of happy people in cbd in our 6 days stay there singing/dancing for no reasons. People seems friendlier lalo na mga puti. 3. Thailanders - they like pinoys din. Masayahin and good sense of humor. Though katulad din ng some pinoys tatagain ka sa presyo kapag alam nila baguhan ka/foreigner (i.e. Tuktuk/ night bazaar). Street smart din dapat. 4. KL - malaysians are nice people in general. 5. SG - in general mababait naman mga local/ kind hearted and disciplined, though may mga ilan pasaway din and some maybe think they are more superior race. Problems lang is in general they seem very serious/ less smiles in their face/ less emotions. Small things they might complain din.

I think the best way to eradicate racism, is to not tolerate it in the first place.

Naobserve ko kasi like for a certain nationality that i know with very strong pride with their own heritage...

well the point is, kahit sang lugar meron. wag na lang pansinin para di la lumaki. kasi no matter what you do tayo lugi kasi nasa lupa nila tayo. of course ibang usapan na kung citizen ka na :)

Pero ngayon, parang wala na kong naririnig na masyadong maganda from anyone i know who is working and living there.
Mate Singapore is a very nice place... WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY better than the Philippines!

Food is great, very covenient, very safe (lumalabas ako at maglakad ng 1km to a McDonald's at 2 in the morning kasi nagugutom) - what more can you ask for?

Oh yeah, did I mention a very low tax regime and a salary that is at the least double sa kinikita sa Pinas? :)
