O, para maiba ang ihip ng hangin at para sa tunay at totoong positive vibes and encouragement, isshare ko ang personal financial experience ko (which, essentially, aminin man natin o hindi, is what migrating to AU is all about). 5 weeks na akong nagwwork sa Sydney. In the first 5 weeks of my work, I have earned, in net pay, what I earn in the Philippines, in net pay, for a year (including 13th month and any bonuses).
Nakakashock for me kasi this is the most money I have earned in my life in the shortest period of time.
Hindi ako nagyayabang. Kung kilala ninyo ako bilang tao, pera ang huling bagay na ipagmamalaki ko about myself (good looks ang source ng hangin ko..hahahaha..).
I'm sharing this para we can all keep our eyes on the prize. We aim for financial abundance and stability. And for me, personally, nagmamanifest na siya agad in less than 3 months of me migrating to Australia.
That is the potential. We won't all get there at the same pace. But eventually, as long as you don't give up, you have to believe that you will get there somehow. :)

Pero agree if you are working from SG to AU, most likely money is not really an issue. Baka most of the time nga is mas makaipon ka pa sa SG kesa sa AU kasi di rin nman nalalayo ang salary package dito. Kadalasan mas ok nga perks/ bonus dito. Ambaba ng tax (i.e. Nasa 2% lang for roughly 120-140k salary i think a month, after a year pa bayad pwede pa hulugan via GIRO). Pero nakakasakal din tumira in a long run, well atleast for me. Besides im not PR here and rejected twice.

But overall i believe kanya kanya yan kapalaran at swerte yan. Madami factors to consider. Also, He/She could be in the right place at right time. This may not be applicable for everyone.

All of us nman here are grown ups, and can decipher things and decide on our own. Ok nga yun may warning. Basta wag lang susuko and keep up the fight.

There are two types of persons in the world and in this forum...

    The lucky ones
    Not-so-lucky ones

Okay let's get back to what this topic is really about. Anybody else can share how long it took them to get a job? And how about let's make this more detailed for the benefit of those who are preparing to fly in here in Oz.

    Example for me:
Occupation: Mechanical Engineer / Piping Design
    Industry: Oil and Gas
Months it took to get a job related to your profession: None yet (Going on 4 months next week)
Months it took to get an odd job: None yet (Started applying about 2 months ago)

PinoyAu the best talaga!

    @johnvangie Mechanical Engineer po.

@wizz, You just hit the spot sir. Different folks, different strokes. Lots of people tell me to "Be positive and all", I mean that's true but sometimes you have to be a realist about the current situation and just be hopeful that some good old dumb luck may hit you along the way.

To everybody here, like sir wizz, I am not discouraging you from anything. As a fellow Filipino migrant, I just want you to know about my experience. After all "Ang swerte ni Juan ay hindi swerte ni Pedro"...

Just to share na din. I got my first pay today from my casual job (24hrs =3days work per week) not bad at kayang icover ang rent for a month so, sa first week solve na yung rent ko ng isang buwan konting panggastos at pamasahe yung icocover ng 2nd wk tapos hopefully makapagsave pa ng onti sa 3rd and 4th wk na salary. This will do for now til mahanap ko ang full time job na meant to be. :)

Let it go na.

From my experience din kasi ang thinking ko pagdating ko ng Perth gagawin ko lang yung ginawa ko nung nag Singapore ako but this time equipped with a PR visa and a good amount of savings so, I thought this time mas madali kasi diba sa Singapore from tourist visa pa talaga then pass holder (working visa). May mga moments na namimiss ko yung work and life ko sa Singapore pero nung father's day meron akong nakitang FB post ng isang kakilala from SG na nalulungkot siya na hindi nya kasama anak niya na sana mapproved ang DP ng anak niya, bumalik saken na tama talaga ang decision ko mag Australia at pag nagka baby na ako hindi nmin dadanasin na magkalayo dahil dito pwede silang makasama. In fact magiging Australian pa nga sila dahil pag nabuo na siya dito na din ipapanganak. hehehe. so, ayun lang. yung benefit niya eh yung pang long term talaga. :)

Share ko lang. I have been here for 7 weeks and mahirap talaga pero kakayanin. On our 3rd week here, napaisip na rin kami ni misis na bumalik ng singapore, lalo na nabakante ulit ang pwesto ni misis, kasi nag resign agad ang pumalit sa kanya. I had more than 200 applications by that time and still not getting any feedback. I did all the advices here especially yong pag change ng resume. Nadidiscourage ako at times...and then we decided to visit my cousin in south australia. I had 180 degree change of perspective. Yong pinsan ko kasi she is only 23 yrs old still studying but working as pca at the same time....and yet may sariling bahay na sya at kotse. When i saw that na motivate ako ulit..,naisip ko lang na kahit magstay pa ako ng 10 yrs sa singapore, i can never buy a place of my own. And isipin na lng natin yong ibang pumunta dito as students, yet they thrived. My wife is still looking for a job, pero hindi na kami ganun kapihikan sa pagpili ng trabaho. It will take years bago umangat ulit ang career namin like in sg but its worth it. At least ddto libre. All the best sa ating lahat.

This..Ang nabibili ng white collar dito, nabibili din ng blue collar..At least in terms of the necessities..Quality of life talaga ang habol ko personally kaya ako lumipat ng Australia..At the end of the day, a job is just a job..It doesn't define you as a person..It is simply a source of income..So if you can live in a place where your job doesn't take over your life and isn't everything you have, then you have will have more time on your hands to actually live..

At the end of the day, a job is just a job..It doesn't define you as a person..It is simply a source of income..So if you can live in a place where your job doesn't take over your life and isn't everything you have, then you have will have more time on your hands to actually live..

gusto ko rin i-share ang side ko...but please don't take it as DISCOURAGEMENT or anything NEGATIVE...

bago ako lumipad papunta dito, I thought aabutin lang ako ng 3 months bago makahanap ng accounting na job kse sabi nila IN DEMAND chrva chenes...pero lumipas na ang tatlong bwan...and counting, no accounting job for me...so, habang nag aantay, nag odd job nalang ako sa isang hotel as a room dining attendant...lahat ng kasama ko dun mga undergrad...pati bisor ko UNDERGRAD!... pero sa totoo lang, parang di ko kaya ang trabaho not because hndi ako undergrad (hahah) but because they are expecting to give me the GRAVEYARD shift asap..meaning, working alone, tending sa orders, preparation ng food, paghatid ng food..lahat lahat ako lang mag isa...which is kinda scary...plus ang hotel namin is a 5-star hotel pa. hahah...

anyway, so eto na nga...di ako sinwerte PA AS OF NOW...pero itong odd job ko at least it pays the rent and for the visa payment and agent fee to process the visa of my partner...sa ngayon, parang yun na muna ang goal ko...but don't get me wrong, magaapply ulit ako ng acctg jobs next week kse may time na ako sa hapon. Araw araw I always think of going back home sa Pinas kse aside sa desperation sa work, depressed ako kse ALONE akong pumunta dito (soloista here) ...

Hi Everyone! I'm new here but Ive been reading some posts from this forum since I got here in aus last year. Katulad ng madami, takot din ako na magpunta dito nung una pero excited din dahil makakasama kona yung asawako for good. I got here on a spouse visa and unlike most of you, Im still on my provisional visa, hopefully, maging PR na this year. So, when I started here, I felt a little insecure about my skills especially with my current visa kasi i thought it might be a big factor when applying for jobs. I was ready to do any jobs kahit odd ones pa basta meron lang so i can help my husband financially.

After a month of sending my applications to different companies, I got a job as a data entry operator for less than 2months. I grabbed the opportunity kahit na sobrang layo sa amin, 1 1/2hours drive. When the project ended, i had to find another job again and received countless rejection emails. It was really disheartening pero go lang ako. I applied for any jobs kahit hindi ko field and even asked my husband to contact the person he knows at a hotel so i can work in housekeeping temporarily. During the time na parang desperate na ako, I suddenly got a call for a project based office job for a few months. I went for the interview and started a week after. It was indeed a blessing kasi pastart na ako sa housekeeping job ko dapat. A few months later, my contract was already expiring so became anxious again and started applying 2months before it ends. I apply for jobs almost everyday, got phone calls but most ofthem never asked me to attend another interview. Some
would invite me for an interview then would later on send me a reject letter. I noticed the job market this year was really bad, nevertheless, pray lang kami ng pray na makakuha ng panibagong trabaho. Unexpectedly, a month before my contract was due, I was invited for a series of interviews for one of the companies here in Qld. I never thought I'll get through the last stage but I did and just thanked the Lord for the opportunity even if I dont get it. I wasnt very confident in my skillset as I know so many people who came here have a stronger background than me. Anyway, I was given the offer for a permanent role doon sa inapplyan ko. I thank the Lord for it.

Just continue to pray and think positive. You all came here for a reason and it might take a while to get a job or a job related to your field or a permanent one, but if you continue to persevere in reaching your goals, you'll get there. I understand it's not easy to find a job here. I myself struggled at first, but each time I feel like going home in the Phil. I think about the positive things here that I may not be able to attain in our home country, hence, the negative feeling goes away. God bless po to everyone. If I can be of any help, feel free to message me. thanks :)

Hi. I have an upcoming interview for a casual position in a hotel and they're already asking for my bank account and bsb number. Is this legal? Iv'e checked the company name and registered naman siya sa ASIC.

@tangerine44 thanks for sharing po. questions:

Assessed Occupation: Industrial Engineer (IE 233511)
Achieved Goal: Australia PR (Permanent Resident). Thanks God!

Hello, share lang din ako. I'm not being pessimistic, gusto ko lang din na maisip ng iba na hindi ganuon kadali for everyone. Kami din pumunta kami dito ng family namin to give a better life to our son. May work ako almost after 2 mos upon arriving (referred by a friend) na hindi related sa line of work ko, hubby is still looking for a job. A few suggestions na baka makatulong:

    3. Meet new friends, they may refer jobs to you
    4. Magbaon ng maraming bala hehe
    5. Magdasal
    6. Lakas ng loob.

Good luck sa atin na nagsisimula ng bagong buhay dito sa Australia, it may not be an easy thing to do pero konting tiis lang, pray and everything will fall into place. :)
