Mukhang we need to visit the bank pala agad upon arrival. Hehe.

Suffice na ba yung passport as requirement for verification? or may additional requirements pa sila na hinihingi? Thanks

Just to share lang my experience with NAB, I opened a NAB account the day after my arrival date. Passport and grant letter lang ang hinanap sakin. Kahit requirement din ang Tax File Number, you can still open an account kasi pwede naman i-add later yung details sa app pag meron nang TFN. In-assist lang ako ng bank teller so that I can skip the TFN part sa e-form.

I was able to open an account that time na rin (they issued my bsb and account numbers, then nakapag-open na rin ng NAB app account) Yung bankcard naman arrived 3 business days after opening.

Hi, when did you book an appointment? Was it before you left or nagbook ka pagdating ng AU?

If before, how did you do it? TIA! ☺️

Hello, I just walked in sa bank without booking an appointment. When I arrived in Sydney, tinanong ko lang sa friend ko kung saan may malapit na NAB para makapag-open ng bank account. Since Sunday ako nag-arrive, kinabukasan ko na lang pinuntahan.

For those who already made their BM, based on your experience, mas mahirap po bang maghanap ng work around November?

We've been contemplating if paaagahin namin BM namin. My current work is becoming too toxic for my health. :(

btw, inoffer-an nila ako ng free data for 3mos under More na telco, legit ba yun na cancel anytime?

Hi, I haven't had my BM yet but the articles I've read says January to February/ during spring are the best times to look for jobs in AU. Pero baka depende rin sa industry that you are in.

My take is if you are prepared na - emotionally, mentally, physically and financially, to make your big move, the earliest possible would be better para nakakasettle kayo and adjust. :)

Hi @Sol_Au thanks for the advice. If we'll move kasi ng November iniisip namin baka mahirapan lang kami maghanap ng work since pa-close na ang taon. We can't afford matenga po ng walang work considering baka Feb pa maging open for hiring majority of the companies.

Btw, we're in construction industry po.

Natawa lang ako dito, kaya minsan I can't blame people na kating kati na makapunta ng Oz na galing Pinas VS others coming from developed countries.

Pag galing pinas, the transition is like using a 3210 then moving to the latest iPhone, whereas pag galing SG or Middle east, from iPhone 14 to iPhone 15 haha. Ang laking talon ng quality of life.

Good analogy. Some would argue higher pa nga salary sa Middle East kc tax free but you’re missing other factors like relatively fair justice system, not being a 2nd class citizen, work life balance and nature.

Mapapaisip ka talaga unfair ang mundo, sa first world countries basta masipag, you can get a comfortable life. Kahit blue collared job pa. Sa pinas hirap eh..

THIS. I couldn't agree more. Sometimes, it's not just about the money, money, money. :D Most especially when you have a child/ren to raise.

You can apply TFN online. Just look for the ATO legitimate website. It should be free and from memory, you can also lodge if you are already in AU. For bank accounts, can be done online also but most require face-to-face follow-up before you can withdrawing money. This is I think more important and process right away as you'll need a bank account for online transactions, government subsidies, etc. My suggestion is to look for high interest yielding savings accounts like macquarie, ING or ubank for your savings. It's been a while since I last did it but back then, I'm afraid its faster for Medicare and Centrelink if you go visit an actual Service Australia office. These are important especially if you have dependents where you'll need child support fees/rebates, vaccines, etc.

I would say depende sa industry and companies. While most companies have a fiscal year of July to June, a few follow the calendar year as their fiscal year. My suggestion is to start looking for a job as early as possible because you'll never know when an opportunity is available. But be prepared to wait and get ignored/rejected several times until you get that 'local experience'. In my experience, the best pa din yun referral from the inside, they prefer that especially if you dont have local experience. Connect with recruiters in linkedin too within your industry, they can help a LOT those new in the AU industry.

Be careful about these add-on offers, always read the fine print if may lock-in period or you can cancel anytime. I've never heard of that telco but for better coverage, always go for Telstra or Optus. Worst case you've locked in already and their services are really bad, lodge a complaint sa Ombudsman. just document all your interactions with the current provider and keep evidence of their bad services. Since wala pa kayo AU IDs like driver's licence, bring your passport and have proof of billing for your 100 pts of ID. If not, apply for Learners or other IDs: https://thefamilylawyer.com.au/education-center/100-points-of-id-guide/#:~:text=The system requires that an,be colour and clearly identifiable.

Hi guys, meron ba dito na may salary packaging/package? Is it much better than wala?

My understanding kasi is that may x amount na hindi magiging taxable sa income mo which means mas malaki na take home pay. If tama intindi ko, this is better lalo if di nalalayo siya sa salary without the package. Come tax filing, magkakaron pa rin ba siya ng refund?

    Thank you!!

2.) Normally po once matapos ang seminar online how many days to get the sticker? How about po the certificate?

3.) Yung sticker po ba is sasadyain sya or may options for delivery?

    Salamat po :-)

I don’t have personal experience pa but I compiled some info here, which might help: bit.ly/hello-oz

Just consult the official sites also (listed din sa document na yan) to be sure. But let’s see if anyone else na nagBM recently can chime in :)

Thank you po sir, na save ko nga po ito last time when you shared this very detailed and helpful na compilation of tips :-) 🙏🏼

Maybe someone will share na lang regarding item no. 1 na kung pwede na kumuha kahit overseas pa at wala sa PH. Thanks po ulet

    Thank you!!

The benefit is basically the same. With packaging though, you get the tax benefit immediately instead of claiming it on your tax return. You cannot however package something into your salary and then claim them again when you file your taxes.

My flight is on october 4 sa sydney. Hingi po ako advice ano dapat gawin sa first day (189 holder)? Ano po dapat unahin, medicare, tfn or bank?

Thank you. This is very helpful. :)

    You're welcome

    Other tips:
    1. if you have small kids, bring their vaccine history book and check with a GP to update their vaccine statement sa medicare - this is a REQUIREMENT to attend daycare and primary schools. Of course, best to get Medicare first before consulting with a GP.
    2. If possible, wait for winter sales before buying (more) decent winter clothes. kathmandu, macpac will hold 40-50% sale several times a year. you're not a true melbournian if you dont have at least one black puffer jacket :)
    3. Always use a myki card when using public transportation. getting caught and receiving fine is more costly.
    4. if you're on a tight budget, look for free stuff in marketplace or FB groups, there's heaps out there. or check for free stuff on nature strips. be careful lang especially sa gum tree and marketplace, scammers have been on the rise after covid.

I still remember nung BM namin, more than 5 years ago, nauna ako to secure a rental. ilang beses din ako nawala sa tram haha hawak ko lagi phone/google maps. d pa ako marunong magbasa ng tram numbers/routes. using public transport is helpful because you get to familiarise yourself with the area especially if you'll be driving soon. but it's still worth investing a car because not all areas have decent public transport and the bus schedules are unreliable.
