    Regarding po sa Victoria some insights or suggestions po sa mga ss;

1.) Which area (North, West or East) ang advisable na hindi ganun kamahal pero malapit sa Train Stations and safer naman.

2.) Which area (North, East or West) and maraming selection ng primary school at hospital.

    Salamat :-)

    1. You can always have a look at realestate.com.au for rental prices. Not all properties in the same suburb will have the same rental pricing, but generally anything that's super accessible/close to the CBD will be pricey. Where you to go or rent will depend on your budget, so I suggest you first work out a budget that you can afford using your settlement funds, at least for the first few months and while you're job hunting.

You can realistically find that info about "safe" places in google. Some neighborhoods are prone to experience higher crime rate, but in general Australia is kinda safe naman (definitely safer than the streets of Manila). I don't live in VIC, but I have never heard/read of a particular suburb in VIC that houses a lot of refugees (well, technically no one would know if you're a refugee because locals don't go around checking every neighbor's background/visa to see if they're living in a place with only refugees/migrants). Choosing where to live based on the presence/absence of refugees sounds a bit.... discriminatory to me. :| (just my two cents).

    1. Unlike the PH wherein you can select your child's school and live wherever you like, Australia has a school catchment system, wherein a school age student has to live in a particular suburb or catchment area to get a slot/place in that area's state school. It's possible to enroll your child in a school when you live outside of the catchment area, but your child is not guaranteed a place and they may be put on a waiting list. It's also an option to send your child to private school, but it's gonna cost you great deal of money. So have a look first at which school you'd like them to attend, and find a house located within that school's catchment area.

You generally go to hospitals for emergencies or surgeries (urgent or elective) only, or if your GP has a clinic set up there. The level of service you get from Australian hospitals are good, so you generally don't need to live close to more than one. You can simply find a GP that's local (like check Google or HotDoc) after you've moved to your new place.

The way Australian healthcare system works is that you need to get a GP, who will be your main point of contact for everything--getting referrals for blood tests, radiology (x-ray, ultrasound), specialists (OB, derma). Feeling poorly? Get an appointment with your GP (there's typically no walk-in option; you'd be lucky to get an appointment schedule without having to wait at least a week) for a standard consult, and they'll give you referral sheet to get tests done or they'll refer you to a specialist if your case needs one. If you get referred to a specialist, you may have to wait a few months (this is depending on the severity of your case) to actually get to see a specialist.

In my case (which happened this year), my GP referred me to an OB-GYN, and it took 3 months to get an appointment with one, because the GP first sent a referral to the tertiary hospital closest to where I live and the nearby hospital rejected it (I have no idea if it was because of they were overloaded or something). The GP referred me to another hospital with OB-GYN specialist (which thankfully accepted me), and I think they were the second closest tertiary hospital to my place. Then I got an appointment to get an elective surgery done within 90 days of that appointment with the OB-GYN. So being in close proximity to a hospital doesn't mean the hospital will automatically take on your case.

Property prices in Blacktown would be quite cheap compared to Sydney CBD (the farther you are from the city, the cheaper the price). I don't know why Blacktown gets a bad rap, but it actually has a large Filipino population/community. The fact that your relatives chose to buy a property in a suburb they don't recommend to others is actually kinda ironic.

Anyway, the places with higher crime rate are actually those to CBD (you can do a simple google search or check out Crime Statistics Agency Victoria).

We live in the area na maraming Sudanese and Vietnamese, yes refugee area. We don't mind, kasi we are from Manila na malapit din sa settlement areas kaya we feel much safer parin here in Melbourne. We like the accessibility, malapit sa train, busses and stores. We can still eat out 6-8pm kasi may mga open restaurants around.

    Sharing our budget.

    AU Expenses (Fortnightly)
    Rent $ 720.00 (2BR with parking $1564/mo)
    Utilities $ 110.00 (ave: electric 100/mo, water $60 for 3mos, inet $70/mo)
    Grocery + Wifey allowance $ 300.00
    Hubby Allowance $ 100.00

    Mobile phone $120/year

    No kids, No car

Hope this help to have ideas on the cost of living. but still depends on your lifestyle.

Yes, invest in good jackets. We have a winter jacket na waterproof/weatherproof and rain jacket(rare ko lang nagagamit) na mainipis lang for summer. Yung beanies and gloves during winter ko lang nagagamit (June -Aug). I'm a commuter and usually wait 5-10 sa labas. Kung di ka naman magtatagal sa labas you don't need them at all. My brother doesn't use beanies and gloves at all, abala lang daw  .

Hi, sa Sunshine po. It took us almost 1mo to find our own place but we are not in a hurry kasi we are living with relatives. We ensure po muna na at least one of us has work before renting a place. And I may think factor din yun. If I remember correctly, you need to pass the point system for you to be approved sa rental. I have no idea po on the room contract.

    Regarding po sa Victoria some insights or suggestions po sa mga ss;

Thanks @athelene! Do you recommend getting private health insurance ? We are planning to get kasi may kasama kaming toddler.

2 Qs po sa mga expert:

    1. For first timers sa VIC, do you guys suggest to move ahead as a family or main first to settle for a few months and land a job / scout the area?
    2. And sa mga nasa VIC na, estimated job hunt for IT professionals, kaya po ba within 6 months.

Family of 4 (2 kids, 1 and 3 years old).
No family, friends, and no job yet prior sa move.

I was thinking to rent a room near to workplace before getting the whole family. Baka kasi hassle pag nagkasabay-sabay. Tapos lipat na lang sa bigger house pag stable na within a year.

Ps.

Hi guys, we're also new here in Melbourne we came here during the pandemic , so i can give you an insight hows moving here 1st time. I am an overthinker person so bago kme pumunta d2 sankatutak n research ginawa ko. 😂 Maraming myth pag wala pa kayo d2. Just to share our experience.
    1. Rent - expensive(real talk) 400-450 pw+ near City, depende sa unit of course. Thats studio to 2 br.
😂 They will look at your savings, etc. Kya i suggest Airbnb muna or sharing kunin nyo pag dating.
    3. Safe areas? Anywhere its safe, kong mag hahanap kayo house yong convenient sainyo, stop listening to those saying marami immigrant dyan kya marami din crime, nah thats pathetic.
    4. Crime - what crime? Melbourne is safe, wag na natin compare sa pinas😂. Just dont watch news Exag ang mga news d2.
    5. Budget depende sainyo sa lifestyles nyo.
    6. Jobs-marami jobs d2 meron labor shortage buong Australia. Ang issue lng ay ang local experience, medyo challenging pero you can manage. Ginawa ko ng work ako sa Small starting company after 3 months, yong mga inaplayan ko big companies tintawagan n ko hrap na mamili hehe. They care about your attitude not much on your skills.
I think thats it yong lng nmn importante pag dating nyo d2, place to stay, starting fund/budget and job. Wag kayo matakot dito! Walang nkakatakot d2. Kya go welcome to Victoria!

Thank you @cres_striker!

Thank you po for answering 🙂 Meron kasi akong isang friend sa fb na based in Melbourne na laging nagsheshare about sa weather doon.

Up.

My nephew(oz born) winter this year on and off yung lagnat nya. Then during summer hay fever naman. Not sure if it will differ from other states, but I heard yung weather na closer sa Pinas is Brisbane.

We always follow and check the weather forecast, mostly for temperature para alam mo yung susuotin. May mga instances lang na ang forecast is thunderstorm tapos maya maya sunny pala or the other way around or mangyayari lahat in one day. haha

Ps. Wala pa naman ITA pero praying for 2023.

Not an expert but just sharing our experiences and opinion. hehe

Number 1 sounds a really good idea. I have a friend na ganyan ang ginawa, so pagdating nung mag anak nya settled na sila sa oz.
Number 2 depends on your skill, since may skill shortage ngayon there is a really good chance na mabilis kayo mahire. My friends na nag moved 2019 took 3-6 mos. But I also have friends including my hubby we arrived this year after 1 mo nakakuha na agad ng job.

Thanks @athelene! Do you recommend getting private health insurance ? We are planning to get kasi may kasama kaming toddler.

Holding private health insurance is a personal choice. There are some good reasons to pay for it (like get access to treatment sooner rather than be on the public waiting list, tax incentives, etc---you can def research on that), but I'd say wait until you move here before deciding. As a future PR visa holder, you would be entitled to Medicare, which covers most treatments naman. Private health insurance (depending on the level of cover) tends to be quite expensive. Probably the health insurance you're more likely to purchase would be the Hospital+Extras (dental, optical, physio... kasi hindi sila included under Medicare).

Thank you so much for this! Big help po 🙂 Did you move there as a family? We're a family of 4 kasi and as much as possible gusto namin na sabay sabay na na pumunta dyan and since wala naman kaming family or relatives dyan, ang pinakaconcern ko eh yung magiging temporary accommodation namin. May iba pa po ba kayong masusuggest na other alternative aside from airbnb?

PR, no work, no relatives.
Salamat!

Hi yah, wala dn nmn kme kakilala d2, i suggest try to find sharing na rooms muna sa FB may mga pinoy group nag papaupa. i know medyo expensive ang airbnb. Swerte lng ata kme nung pandemic kasi wala umuupa kya, na approve kme, kahit wala pa kme work nun😂
