Australian Computer Society Skills Application

Hello everyone!

I'm planning to get my skills assessed by ACS. I have a question on how to proceed with the ACS assessment based on my background.

I'm a BS Electrical Engineering graduate with more than 10 years experience in IT (programmer to be specific). I'm assuming my college course is not considered as an ICT so I'm now looking at getting a Recognition of Prior Learning or RPL. After reading the "Skills Assessment Guidelines for Application July 2012" (http://tinyurl.com/ctyjwko) document from the ACS website, I found this statement from page 14:

Vendor Certification
The following vendor certifications are accepted by the ACS and are comparable to an AQF Diploma with an ICT major.

My vendor certification is in the list, so I'm guessing that will be accepted as valid ICT education. Does that mean I don't need to get a RPL and would just use my vendor certification as proof for my ICT education (will be assessed at Group B, see page 12 of http://tinyurl.com/ctyjwko)

tanong po..yung BS ECE po ba is considered as major in ICT in relation sa nominated skill na
computer & systems engineer?

ECE po kasi husband ko (xa po yung primary sa meng dalawa). Tapos may 3 yrs. experience palang xa as IT. May CISCO certification naman po xa. Tapos sa ACS po, nag-wo-worry xa kung macoconsider yung 3 yrs IT experience nya in relation sa course nya (ECE) and in relation to the said nominated skill (computer & systems engineer)?

Considered na ICT major pa rin ata ang ECE. Bsta no need na for an RPL, the usual General ASsessment lang. ECE din ako and IT rin naging career ko. Mas recent experience nya ba ang work nya sa IT?

Hi! Sorry now ko lang napansin ung message mo. hehehe bale may offer pero wala pa ung official letter. isip ko nga baka di ituloy ung offer eh. hehehe Pero at this point oks lang din kase medyo half-hearted pa din ako dun sa binigay. ahihi naging choosy pa eh noh. Pero kase parang ayaw ko lang umalis din ng nagmamadali. Pero if it's really God's will, matutuloy yun.

Paano gina-grant ng ACS ang 15 points(Recognized Bachelor Degree)? Sa mga nabasa ko kasi dito halos puro 10pts(AQF) lang ang naki-claim. Sayang din yung 5 points eh sa tingin naman natin dapat 15pts yung ma-claim natin.

@elle It depends. Others believe it's because of school sectioning. In my case it was my general average that caused me the AQF status.

Paano gina-grant ng ACS ang 15 points(Recognized Bachelor Degree)? Sa mga nabasa ko kasi dito halos puro 10pts(AQF) lang ang naki-claim. Sayang din yung 5 points eh sa tingin naman natin dapat 15pts yung ma-claim natin.

hindi po ACS ang naggrant ng points.. they just assess your skills and educational qualification based on AQF standards.. In general, ACS checks your course content/syllabus if it is comparable to AQF standards (diploma ba or bachelors degree)...

then they will put that in your assessment.. as their opinion... that will be the basis of DIAC's decision on how many points to give you..

in the end, may nakalagay po na note sa DIAC: The decision to award points for Educational qualification remains with of the departmental case officer.

@Metaform Yun din yung nabasa ko before due to school sectioning. Medyo unfair kung yun ang basis kasi what if nasa Section B yung school mo yet your course syllabus is at par with its counterpart in Australian educ. Sabagay, lahat naman ito ay sugal. Makaswerte na lang sa ma-a-assign na mag-evaluate.

@lock_code2004 I agree hindi naman ACS ang nagbibigay ng points, but somehow, their assessment results greatly influence the number of points that you can claim. So kung sabihin nilang AQF, eh 10points na lang agad yun. Medyo malabo ng makuha ang 15 points.

10yrs na kasi ako ng wowork as IT Person, puede po ba sa ACS assessment eh ang gamitin ko lang or i submit na work reference is 5yrs? (5yrs ko kasi sa ACN eh walang Duties/Res, so medyo matatagalan pa na makakuha ng Statutory Declaration kasi need pa umuwi ng Pinas, andun kasi yung manager ko)

Then, buong 10yrs ang gagamitin ko sa DIAC?

Medyo naghahabol po kasi sa Oras kaya di na mahintay ang ACN work reference.

Reply to @hernanipollaruste: san po ba current location nyo? yung statutory declaration po kasi ay para sa mga commonwealth countries like australia, singapore, US, etc. eto po yung template: http://www.ag.gov.au/Documents/StatutoryDeclaration200602.pdf

kung nasa pinas po kayo, affidavit po gamitin nyo. eto naman yung template na sinundan ko sa affidavit na ginamit ko dun sa previous employer ko sa pinas: http://legal-forms.philsite.net/general-affidavit.htm

Yung Affidavit po puede po sya gamitin in replacement of "Statutory Declaration" since hindi tayo commonwealth country? tama po ba ang pagkakaintindi ko?

Applicable po yung affidavit kung sa Pinas ko po sya gagamitin para i-declare yung duties and responsibilities ko nung nagtratrabaho pa ako sa pinas?

Yung manager ko po ang mag fifillup nung affidavit or ako? sa harap nang Notary Public?

Ngayon po kasi nasa SG ako.

@Isyut Yes. Imbes na Bachelor's degree pwede kang ma-assess as having an AQF Advanced Diploma kapag mababa ang GPA. Yun ang sabi sa akin ng ACS case officer noong tinanong ko kung bakit advanced diploma lang yung comp sci degree ko.

@Isyut Ano naman ang ikinatatakot mo? Baka mas mataas ang grades mo sa akin at maka-15 pts ka sa educational attainment. General weighted average naman yun, kung marami kang uno kaysa tres, huwag kang mangamba. Pinilit ko kasing tapusin nang apat na taon yung course ko kaya wala nga akong singko, ang dami ko namang tres.

By the way yung school mo ba nung college nag i issue ng certified true copy ng Transcript of records? pumunta kasi ako sa university ko kahapon, hinde sila nag iissue ng certitified true copy, Original lang daw (which I already have).

Sabi nila for skills assessment daw ng ang ACS, they would advise na tawagan sila ng assessing body to verify.

di ko ko tuloy sure kung acceptable sa ACS na i forward ko nalang yung scanned original TOR ko tapos tawagan nila yung University registrar for verification. :-/

by the way, yung mga certificates of training ba for e.g. sa HP, Microsoft and etc. pwede ba yun e upload din? counted ba yun? or TOR lang importante sa kanila?

@Isyut If most of your university subjects are not closely related to your nominated occupation (a.k.a. Group , certifications would help. Say, I mostly had programming subjects so I had to present my MCITP to prove to them I can do sysadmin and networking work.
