    @ava_garde06 hello
karamihan sa mga PR na nagpunta dito e wala pang mga jobs sa particular fields nila...kaya ung iba, like me e odd jobs muna to survive...

kung marami kang baon, financially, pwede rin naman na tambay lang muna while waiting for the right job for you...

But i would suggest na mag-odd job ka na lang muna while waiting for the right job...para hinde ka ma-bored at kahit paano e to gain "local" experience :-)

@wizardofOz uy bro musta na, pinakamarami yung cleaning, nakapasok kami kaagad ng wife ko kasi puro mga pinoy mga andun. 4 hours a day, $23/hour.

as for the interview naman, usually may 3 interviews, yung una parang "getting to know" you. job history mo, career goals etc,.. second interview very technical, sometimes written or minsan hands-on, puedeng same day kung ok ka sa first interview or some other time. Last interview is with Job offer na.
One suggestion lang for newly migrants
is highlight mo yung how immigration process your PR during interview, I told them that I passed the english exam, my qualifications and work experience were successfully assessed by Australia Computer Society before I got the PR and so far halos nagkaroon ako ng second interviews na

Job hunting in Sydney = effort (resume, cover letters, interviews) + confidence + prayers

It takes a lot of effort to make sure employers will notice you. I applied for hundreds of jobs and went to a handful of interviews. You have to tailor-made your resume to your applications. You have to be early and prepared for your interviews (and sayang sa pamasahe if rejected T_T).

Confidence in proving you are suitable for the position and that you can exceed their expectations. It's a bit intimidating at first, pero practice makes perfect.

    Prayers all the way. Amen.

It was pretty hard as I have a temporary visa and this would cause some employers to automatically turn me down. It was disheartening at first. But you have to keep fighting or else talo ka.

After three months, countless emails to and from Seek, and a number of rejections, I landed a job (Business Analyst) that I like and still currently hold. :)

Unfortunately focused lang ako sa pagaapply that time so hindi na ko kumuha ng extra work. May interviews din kasi in between e. (In short, bum hahahaha)

Depende rin kasi sa situation, if kaya, maganda ngang makapag local experience kagad para masanay on how the people converse, etc.

hey guys, I have been meaning to share my experience the moment I have something to tell specifically to this thread/question. Ito ang pinakabinabalik-balikan ko kasi specially nung papalapit na ang big move. Like most of you, I have been very weary, anxious, excited and a bit scared of what would be the actual answer to this post as it applies to us, individually. How long does it take to land a job?

To jump right to it, mine took 6 days. I arrived here Jan 15th, I was offered the job yesterday (Jan 21st) and I'm about to start tomorrow, Jan 23rd. Of course, there's more to it than just the actual dates and days but I can tell you that it wasn't easy and it won't ever be possible without the advice from friends, tons of prayers, and the grace of God.

    WARNING: Long read... (sorry)

I'm in IT (.Net Web Development) and I think the most crucial step for me is taking the advice of my friend who was already here before I came. That is, to accept the fact that it's really hard to compete in landing a job here, really hard.

I tried to really prepare for the opportunity before it came. Ang nasa isip ko lagi is - if someone called and interviewed me right then, I had to deal with the possibility that this interview could be my last shot for the next weeks or months and I simply had to maximize the chance.

With that in mind, I really took my time to brush up my skills weeks bago ko umalis ng Pinas (pati yung mga stuff na nababasa lang and nalilimutan na natin sa everyday work). Then when I came here, I refurbished my CV over and over until I am thoroughly satisfied. I didn't send out a single CV/cover letter until I was really ready to take interviews.

So when I came here nung 15th, nakapagsend pa lang ako ng Cover letters and CVs nung 18th (dahil sa tagal kong magproof read) sa mga jobs na I think I am a fit sa Seek. I didn't apply to a lot of job posts. I searched, scanned, filtered and applied to 17 jobs that I saw was a really good fit for what I've been doing.

Come the 19th (monday), I got 2 calls from recruiters and 1 call from an hr/resource manager ng company. The same day, I was asked to take 2 technical exams, 1 behavioral exam, which I did at home. I also had a face to face interview with a technical recruiter.

On the 20th (tuesday), I was asked by the hr/resource manager to come into their office for a face to face interview and to sit another exam. Around 30 minutes after I left their office, I was called to come back the next day for another set of panel interviews and again, a (more) technical exam.

Finally on the 21st (wednesday), I met with the manager and a senior guy from the team and had the interview and did another technical exam. Then, around 30 mins after I left their building, the HR manager called me to say I landed the job and I will start on the 23rd. They sent me the offer letter for counter-signing na rin.

I know my story is a bit shorter than some others who shared their tale. What I had going for me was training my mindset to deal with the challenge of job hunting by being prepared even before the interviews came in. This may or may not work for everyone. But at least for me, being confident and at the same ready for the opportunity is a very powerful combo to add to the heaps of prayers.

For whatever it is, don't shy away from making that big leap of faith sa paghahanap dito ng work. I was preparing for the worse, then I was given better than I had honestly expected. I truly believe that God has everything planned and He works through ways we just can't comprehend as long as we give it our honest best.

    Goodluck and Godbless everyone!!!

Wow ang galing. Penski, I'm also in IT particularly in Cisco Network Technologies. I am bound to Brisbane this April and I am a bit worried about Jobs for Network Engineers. I wonder if you can share the bad and the good in IT recruitment right now before I submit my resignation. I saw from statistics that there are no Shortage of workers for Computer Network and Systems engineer which means that there is a heavy competition for each vacant position. Madame ang applicant for each vacant position.

Any input from other members? thanks.

pinoy newcomers pa lang yan, add-in the other pinoys who are already in Oz and yung iba pang lahi, and there’s a mix of a pretty tight competition.

don't over think about the competition. I must say that 75% of your chance in landing a job here relies on how you create your resume. I can only tell from my line of work, pero I can say kulang talaga ang skilled worker dito on some specialized fields. Mapapansin ka talaga if your resume only talks on what they exactly need. Kung ano lang yong hinihingi na skill sa job post, yon lang ang ilagay mo. Don't make your resume broad. Be skill specific. Paiba iba dapat ang resume mo depende sa trabaho. If it is necessary to change your job title to pattern Australian job titles do it (e.g. dont just say Building Engineer, say Mechanical Services Engineer, etc) And don't ever ever put something na hindi mo talaga alam or medyo alam mo lang.

Some jobs take time to fill. Some of the jobs I applied 4 months ago are just starting to return to me. Minsan kasi, pooling rin lang sila. Hanggat di pa naaaward ang project on hold muna. Kaya hindi masama mag odd jobs muna. Even my colleagues, noong nag sara ang mga previous companies nila, odd jobs muna habang naghihintay ng tawag. Inaabot rin sila buwan bago makabalik sa old industry nila.

Magbaon ng napaka raming lakas ng loob. my wife took 6 months to land a job to think her projects are called "iconic" and renowned worldwide (im not bragging just stating the fact). Pero nasa timing kasi talaga. Even you have the skills hanggat wala pang opening, wait wait lang. Just make sure your resume is polished!

    All the best

Thanks for the comments @wizardofOz at @Gft_SG. Appreciate the advise.

I also would like to hear from those who are on the same field that are currently in Australia, hopefully they can share something.

@Gft_SG thanks, what you shared were valuable inputs

Sakin naman I dont see the competition as deterrent sa gagawin kong paghanap ko ng work. Mas nakikita ko sya positively in the sense na mas paghahandaan ko ang pag-aapply...

For instance, ang thinking ko kasi is, I could make my CV as bullseye as possible to the Job being posted.. pero the bigger question is yung competition ko ba hindi naisip na gawing tailor-fit as possible din yung CV nya?

In other words, we're all in a level playing field and halos lahat pare-pareho ng strategy... Ano kayang "edge" yung pwede kong maipakita? Yun yung mas focus ko.

Its also true na kailangan maraming baon na lakas ng loob, diskarte, kaunting swerte, at maraming dasal.
