Hi guys, I was granted a Skilled Migrant Visa subclass 175 (Engineering Technologist) just last week. It only took a little over 3 months processing from lodge to grant, I was so ecstatic when I got the news. Now, I started to shift my focus to job prospecting through the internet and most of the experiences I've read so far are so disheartening. I have never been unemployed since graduating from college. And the concept of job-hunting for an average of 3 months scares me. I was hired by an IT Company in Cebu 1 month before graduations, currently I've been outsourced in Japan for almost 6 years now and my work experience and expertise are in the field of Wireless Technologies and Antenna Design. I like my work in JP but since I am just a contract worker I started eyeing Aussie for the long term, plus my Tita who has lived there for almost 20 years now urged me enthusiastically. I was really motivated and hopeful when I was applying for Visa, now that I have it and have read some people's experiences like how Aussie employers care so much about "local experience", I'm having second thoughts. How hard is it really to find a job in your field in Aussie? Do any of you guys have regrets?

Lahat ng nag-migrate dito e walang "local experience" but most (if not all) of us survive. Kung pinanghihinaan ka ng loob, then migrating to Aus is not for you. Sorry if I sound so mean.

Hi everyone. Just sharing some of our experiences.

No question. Nagjoke joke lang. Wala ring aberya sa customs. Since may dala kaming canned goods (corned beef, sisig, meatloaf), peanuts and noodles, nag-tick lang kami sa dalwang checkboxes ng form pertaining to "canned meat" and "nuts" items. BTW, before we left home, nilista namin in detail yung foodstuff and toiletries na dala namin. Wala nman akong nabasa na kelangang gawin to; just in case lang...

    ACCOMMODATION
We're staying in a backpacker Strattons Hostel. Mura lang kaya di rin maganda. The other day may mga maiingay na housemates na umiinom sa hallway. Pwede na rin for a temporary stay. It's in downtown kaya naglalakad lang kami. It's our third day today at di pa naman namin kinailangang sumakay ng bus or train.

    FREE INTERNET
Since walang wifi sa hostel, tumatambay kami sa NSW state library para mag-internet at mag-apply apply. Bring your own laptop or pwedeng makigamit ng available computers (mabagal nga lang). You don't need to be a member para makigamit ng wifi. Pero kelangang member ka to use the computers kasi ie-enter mo yung member ID. I suggest na magregister kayo online or dito mismo; libre lang nman.

    MEDICARE
Nung Monday nagregister kami sa Medicare. It's located at 135 King St (inside the Glasshouse Mall). Nag-fillup na kami ng downloaded forms separately before kami pumunta. Ni-recommend sa min na under the same medicare account na lang kami ng wife ko. Same medicare number tapos parehong nasa card ang names namin.

Suggestion sa min, mag-open muna ng Everyday current account (no minimum/monthly charges) and online iSaver savings account (no minimum/monthly charges for online transactions).

Parang US city lang naman pala down under.

Can't wait to finally settle here...

Scoot is a refurbished SQ plane - the seats were probably redone to make it look new.

ang ipads are in flight mode, pwede gamitin after plane is in cruising altitude. :)
