Let's get down to the dirty details here. So you got your flight and accommodation arranged, but have you thought of how you're gonna be connected when you get there?

Need advice - mobile and internet plans, electricity and water. Flying to Melbourne in a month and a half's time. Halpz!

So after three weeks of waiting and installation nightmare, naikabit na rin ng TPG and DSL namin sa flat. Signal not bad. Customer service and tech support ay sa Ortigas ang bagsak pero ang sungit nung supervisor sa pag-waive ng technician fee (another story altogether).

    So was it waived? :)

I heard horror stories as well of waiting before ma install ang DSL services - unlike sa SG before wherein it was like, please wait for at most a day before you can use.

Yun pala, after kami naka-uwi sa bahay, pwede na magamit ang DSL and Cable TV! :)

yung parang ganyan sa pinas --the closest thing to that would be PLDT fibr and it's 5,500 per month! o_o

As far as I know it's the cheapest plan for unlimited ADSL - $59.99. Pero crappy installation service. Their contractor only connected the phone line at the main distribution frame, but the line that goes to our flat was not crimped, so TPG tried to charge me another $60 for a "private technician" that will fix the internal wiring. For me it was an unfinished installation so after two days of calling TPG and emailing their complaints department they agreed to waive the $60 fee for the technician (which did a five-minute job in connecting two silver cables in the MDF).

Then I found out from the other tenants here and from forums online that they always do that to new customers but the problem gets resolved when you push them back.

@jaero nagtanong ako sa telstra... matagal din, 3-8 business days...
pero astig ng offer nila saken na speed..100mbps..
yun nga lang 200GB lng a month..walang unlimited..
    tapos 100aud per month nyaaaaa...

ito yung portion ng usapan namin

    ----------------------------
    TELSTRA TECHSUPPORT:
Oh I see. Ok well great news anyway, cable is available at that address which means speeds of up to 100 Mbps which is much faster then ADSL 2's maximum speed which is only 20 Mbps. You are able to get a 200 GB plan with a home phone that has unlimited local calls and telstra mobile calls for $100 a month and you also get a free self install kit with a wireless modem router and there is no connection cost if there is a phone socket with a dial tone.
    ME:
    only 200gb? no unlimited?
    TELSTRA TECHSUPPORT:
No unlimited no, we shape you to 256 Kbps once you reach your limit so you can use it as much as you like even when you reach your cap and won't be charged extra. I have the 200 GB plan myself and I do a lot of downloading and it is more then ample.
    ME:
200gb is not enough for me. anyway, how long does it take for you to install the connection?
    TELSTRA TECHSUPPORT:
It would take approximately 3 to 8 business days for you to be activated and our modem to come out.
    ME:
    oh, that's too long hmmm...
    TELSTRA TECHSUPPORT:
I am sorry to hear that, as you can likely appreciate sometimes these things take time and preparation. All I can recommend to combat that is contact us as soon as the property is signed over to you
    ME:
    anyway, tnx for the information.

I'm using dodo unlimited Internet for $59, pansin ko mas mabilis connection sa Sydney about 10Mbps yung sa kapatid ko compared dito sa SA na 5Mbps lang.

Pero sulit na din compared sa Pinas. I can download a 1GB movie in less than an hour.

I'm using Origin for electricity and gas around $200 for three months. (2 persons)

@psychoboy Naka-prepaid lang ako so $30 for a month for 500 Mb with unlimited social networking, pero mawawala na rin yun come mid-Feb. Meaning maka-count against the 500 Mb allotment yung access to Fb, Twitter, LinkedIn, et al. Mostly I use the data for maps when I'm in the city. Very helpful kasi lagi kong nakakalimutan yung paper map ko sa bahay.

Thank you for highlighting this as I was really bent on getting na sana a prepaid from vodafone upon arrival...
