Mag invest kayo sa hot water bag(s). Bukod sa mura, healthier pa yan kaysa sa heater.
Kung wala pa kayong hot water bag, big bottles will do. Lagyan lang nang hot water from tap, sigurado mas masarap tulog nyo.

Also, weigh option of staying close to work (rental generally more expensive) and saving on petrol VS. living farther (cheaper rental) but spending more on transportation (car mortgage, insurance, petrol). May pros and cons either way and depends on needs. In my case, I'm staying close to work muna kasi naghahanap pa ako mura car and hindi pa ako familiar sa roads.
Pero eto natutunan ko in my short stay dito.

(1) At the end of the day, separate your gold coins ($2 & $1) and place them in a piggy bank.
As per experience kasi, my coins are usually the first to get spent - usually impulse buy such as soda, magazines, gums, etc are paid using coins. As oppose to say you have a bill, if you really don't need naman the commodity, you will just tend to defer the purchase.
This can grow substantially after a few months! Done this in Singapore previously with gold coins and 50cents!

Bumili ng fruits & gulay sa local fruit&vege shop
Support the local butcher
Hanap ng fish monger / shop - e.g. Ang salmon sa coles ay $25-$30/kg, sa shop $16-$20/kg. if may space sa freezer, isang buo ang bilhin then hiwa-hiwalay pagpack mo para defrost kada meal.
Mag-aral magluto
Magbaon
Mag-aral magfishing, may hobby ka na, may libreng ulam pa. super dami tilapia kasi d kinakain ng mga aussie or depende sa area, mga local fishes like bream ang mahuli
