hi po ulit, sa mga recently lang nag-BM from Pinas - pa'no n'yo dinala initial funds n'yo?
    a. nagpapalit na ba kayo AUD dito, if yes saan po, 10k AUD na ba agad pinapalit n'yo?
    b. nagdala USD and palit na lang sa airport pagdating?
    c. international wire transfer from PH bank once maopen na bank account d'yan? if yes, ano bank n'yo dito?

    c. international wire transfer from PH bank once maopen na bank account d'yan? if yes, ano bank n'yo dito?

    • Yes, CBA bank ko. nag wire transfer ako, even bigger amounts, like 2 or 3 yrs ago ata, mga 6digits na AUD amount nag wire transfer ako pang down ng bahay wala naman naging problema. CBA pinaka mababang fees sa research ko.

And to add, nung dumating ako, may dala din ako cheque book. so nag deposit din ako ng cheque nung kailangan ko ng pera, wala naman naging problema. inamin ko din sa immigration nung pag dating ko na may dala ako around 10 blank cheques pang emergency since may limit ng amount ng cash na puwede dalhin, wala naman naging problema.

    sana nakatulong. good luck

Not unless maglaland ka sa Australia within a few days/weeks ng pag-enroll online. CommBank allows you to register online pero you need to verify it in person sa Australian branch para maactivate yung account.

A few weeks prior to your move, enroll ka na. Read up here: https://www.commbank.com.au/moving-to-australia/banking.html

Hi, recently moved here nung january.

    1. I didn't bring AUD, USD ang dala ko pero just enough lang to get by until makapag bukas ako ng bank account. Note pala that the big banks don't do forex na, so find a good travelex branch para makapagpalit ng pera. I also brought my credit cards, para whatever happens, may panggastos.
    2. I intentionally did not open a bank account, simply because before I flew here, si CBA lang ang nagallow mag open prior arrival. I didn't like na may monthly fees yung account nila hehe so nag open ako with NAB and ANZ nung dumating ako.
    3. With regards to wire transfer, ginagawa ko to lagi kasi may earnings din ako sa pinas. We do this through SBC, pero ang gumagawa na is family and through their accounts. Sa SBC kasi bawal na na from my own account galing tapos wala ako. Besides wire transfer through local banks, pwede mo din try paypal :)

    Hope these helps.

Hi @xiaolico regarding the cheques, if I may ask what bank was this? Would you remember if the transaction fee was the same as wire transfer?

Metro bank, may pirma pa ng nanay ko ha. Bank of mom eh hehe. Dalawa na gamit ko. Sobrang lugi, Di ko maalala magkano exactly, Pero better wire transfer. Mas taas fees ng cheque, same exchange rate naman. Ang naalala ko pa, 20 days to clear. Pero less than a week nag clear na. Pero mas mataas bawas compared sa wire transfer.

Hi, sa mga nag-big move na: curious to know lang what you packed with you? Or sa mga nagpplano pa lang. Did you pack as much as you could, or tipong isang luggage lang then YOLO?

Wala pa akong grant pero nakikichismis lang ng what’s in your bag, chos!

I'd suggest bringing clothes that are suitable for interviews. Some people don't bring interview outfits thinking dito na lang bibili. Kaso medyo iba rin sizing dito and in general, pag bumibili ng shoes and clothes di naman parating nakakahanap agad ng magugustuhan mo na kasya rin sa iyo and pasok sa budget. It's stressful enough looking for the first job without adding unnecessary problems such as walang masuot sa interview.

I guess depends sa field no. But my suggestion lang, don't worry too much about interview outfits. Since na uso zoom or any video interview, hindi na important interview outfits. madami hindi na naka formal. smart casual top lang. medyo normal dito palipat lipat ng work. so normal madaming interviews.

you can just purchase a water jar with a purifier if you just want to make sure of the safety. nung andun ako sa Melbourne last time, nag-stay ako sa friend ko at iniinom namin is tap water but purified from the water jar. di naman sumakit tiyan ko hehe.

    MY ROAD TO AUSTRALIAN PR

Nominated Occupation: Architectural Draftsperson - ANZSCO 312111 (Offshore)

    2020

Jan 20: Since I’m DIYing it, I started researching and learning the whole process.
Feb 22: VETASSESS – I started gathering all required documents.
Apr 25: VETASSESS – I finished gathering all my documents. I created my account and started filling up the Skills Assessment for General Occupation Application.
Apr 29: VETASSESS – I double-checked my documents. I started uploading the required documents. I decided not to include my first work in the Philippines because I don’t have payment evidence of it. I didn’t include my 1st work in Singapore as well because I don’t have a Certificate of Employment from that job.
Apr 30: VETASSESS – I double-checked my documents for the last time.
May 01: VETASSESS – I successfully submitted my online assessment for Architectural Draftsperson. Total amount paid is AUD$ 880 (SGD$ 842.66) Crossing my fingers that the outcome will be positive.
May 05: VETASSESS – My application status was lodged.
Jul 12: VETASSESS – After 11 weeks, the results came out and it was Positive. Number of years assessed positively was 9.63 which is equivalent to 15 points in EOI.
Jul 25: IELTS – I finally booked my IELTS Computer-delivered Test for SGD$ 365. My test date was Aug 16, 2020.
Aug 16: IELTS – It was my test day. Speaking, Listening, Reading, and Writing were all taken on this day.
Aug 21: IELTS – My test results came out. L: 9.0 R: 7.5 W: 7.0 S: 7.5 which is Proficient English. It is equivalent to 10 points in EOI.
Aug 22: EOI – I finally submitted my Expression of Interest (EOI) in SkillSelect for NSW Visa 190.

    My points breakdown:
    Age: 25
    English Language Ability: 10
    Education: 15
    State Nomination: 5
    Years of Experience: 15
    Total: 70 points

*Invitation rounds for NSW nomination under the Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190) are currently closed. I’m expecting that this may take a while because of the pandemic and the current situation in Australia. I just have to wait for the federal government’s advice on when it will open again.

    2022

Jul 5: IELTS – Since my IELTS exam result was expiring on Aug 16, 2022, I booked my 2nd IELTS Computer-delivered Test for SGD$ 378. My test date was on Jul 17, 2022. I didn’t know at that time that Australia is accepting its validity for 3 years. But I was able to use it as well for my Canada PR application.
Jul 17: IELTS – It was my test day. Speaking, Listening, Reading, and Writing were all taken on this day.
Jul 20: IELTS – My test results came out. L: 8.0 R: 9.0 W: 7.0 S: 7.5 which is Proficient English. It is equivalent to 10 points in EOI.
Jul 25: EOI – I received a notice that my EOI is expiring on August 23, 2022, so I had to resubmit it.
Aug 23: EOI – My Expression of Interest (EOI) in SkillSelect expired after 2 years.
Aug 25: EOI – I submitted my new Expression of Interest (EOI) in SkillSelect.

    My points breakdown:
    Age: 25
    English Language Ability: 10
    Education: 15
    State Nomination: 5
    Years of Experience: 15
    Total: 70 points

*Invitation rounds for NSW nominations under the Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190) were still closed. It’s expected to open in November 2022. I hope I get invited before my birthday because I will lose points during an age milestone on December.

Sep 09: EOI – After a long wait, NSW’s Skilled Visa Nomination Program finally opened. However, my skill points for my nominated occupation didn’t meet the minimum points required which is 90. I only had 70 points. I updated my EOI and changed my preferred state to Victoria, which only requires a minimum of 65 points. I then created an account in the Live In Melbourne portal and submitted my Registration of Interest (ROI).

Dec XX: EOI – My points went down to 60 points due to an age milestone and I am now not qualified for at EOI in the Australian Skillselect. My only hope is to get higher points in my English exam to get back in the pool. I withdrew my EOI and ROI in Victoria.
    Dec19: – I booked my PTE English Test for USD$ 260 (SGD$ 367.11). My exam date was on Dec 30, 2022.
Dec 30: PTE – I took the PTE Academic English Test. My test results came out the same day: L: 84 R:84 S: 90 W: 75. I didn’t get the scores that I needed to achieve Superior English.
Dec 31: PTE – I booked another PTE English Test for USD$ 260 (SGD$ 361.28). My exam date was on Jan 09, 2023.

    2023

Jan 09: PTE – It was my test day. The results came out on the same day: L: 90 R:85 S: 90 W: 80. I finally got the points that I needed to get Superior level of English.
Jan 10: EOI – I lodged my EOI for NSW Visa 190 and was able to reach 70 points again to qualify for an invitation. By this time, the minimum points for all occupations were already removed by NSW.
Jan 12: PTE – Booked my wife’s PTE English Test for USD$ 291.60 (SGD$ 401.85). Her exam date was on Jan 20, 2023.
Jan 20: PTE – It was my wife’s test day. The results came out on the same day. She got a Competent English result which is additional 5 points on my EOI for Partner’s Qualifications (English).
Jan 21: EOI – I updated my NSW 190 EOI. I now have 75 points.

    My points breakdown:
    Age: 15
    English Language Ability: 20
    Education: 15
    State Nomination: 5
    Years of Experience: 15
    Partner Qualification (English): 5
    Total: 75 points

Jan 24: EOI – I finally received a pre-invite to apply for visa 190 nomination from NSW! We were super-duper happy! We’re on cloud 9! Tears of joy!

Hello, hope you can share your inputs on my questions below:
    1. For those na nagflatshare, how was the experience? The last time I shared a house/unit with someone was when I was in the US for an assignment. Pinoy pa yun.
    2. Specially for those in SA, do you have any recommendations on the neighborhood outside but is near CBD? I just want to sort of narrow down my search.
    3. How long yun stay niyo when you booked your accommodation upon arrival - airbnb or hostel, etc? I read kasi na banks, TFN will be sent via mail and it will only take a few days or weeks. How long ang safest na stay if you haven't found a house na titirahan mo ng mas matagal? I was thinking kasi what address you will give sa application and what if lumipat ka na in time na pa-release na yun hinihintay mo.

    TIA!

Madami po sales dito from time to time, pero I would suggest na magdala nalang galing sa Pinas and save the pocket money for rent, food, and other necessities.

Almost spring na din po dito kaya medyo mainit na. On sale na po ung mga winter outfits. 😊 Goodluck sa BM.

My plan is magBM on February, paend na ang summer I guess. Would you recommend to bring winter clothes na since I think baka mahal na sila by this time?

Yep, summer pa ng time na yun. Sa April pa lalamig hehe. Makakaipon ka pa pambili.
