I have a question, you mentioned ICAA did not consider your work experience abroad because of your job title, did ICAA specifically mentioned that reason?

Being auditor for quite sometime i somehow perceived where the Assessor is coming from. Asessor mindset must be skeptic, kasi yan talaga ang work nila. Ask and convince your self first, accountant ka nga ba talaga?
Strictly speaking ano ba ang accountant, in small companies sya yung in charge sa books/ records. handles consolidation (if applicable), prepares financial reports, journal entries, etc. In Big companies pwedeng marami sila, depending sa group or sections. Accountant talga dapat ang designation mo or lets say Finance Manager/ staff, Accounting Manager, accounting staff.
External audit job is closely related to accountant and parang may sarili din syang NOC sillsket so mas madali mag decide.
Pero for accounts executive or admin executive, job expectations or responsibilities is different. Lalo na yung admin executive all around yun eh kung ano iassign. It may provide support related to accounting, but he/she is not accountant per se. You really need to convince them.
But still, kung mahigpit akong assesor pwede ko talga i turn down as accountant job.

unfortunately wala naman binanggit na ganun. sa result kasi ng assessment ang sinabi lang nila ay " The following claims of skilled employment equate to work at an appropriately skilled level as accountant", tapos naka specify ung work ko sa Pinas. About the job title, i only assumed it kasi walang "accountant or equivalent phrase" to it sa aking trabaho dito sa Riyadh.

For the past 10 years kasi ang history ng work ko ay 1.5 years accounting, 3 years external audit, 2.5 years external audit firm pero sa advisory group, 2.5 years again sa external audit firm pero sa risk management dept naman, at currently 1.5 years internal audit. nagtake ako ng ielts (mistakenly booked acedemic instead of general training) at sa awa ng diyos umabot ng 7 naman.
Mas mahal yata sa vetassess at mas matagal compared sa cpaa/ica. Im really decided na talaga to pass my documents sa Australia, but all of a sudden i got a job offer in Canada. I have lots of friends/colleagues na nasa Accounting field sa Oz ngaun. I really dont know what to do now.

Kung mapapirmahan mo sa boss mo yung job descriptions detailing your responsibilities on COE and majority ng work mo is related sa internal audit good. Kung may organisation chart kang maisasama (signed and approved) na under ka sa Audit and budget division much better. But the catch for internal audit is in strictest sense, it must be independent sa management and operations and finance. Its functional reporting is directly to Audit Committee/BOD administrative reporting to CEO.
Remember that the assessor is from accounting body (i.e. CPAA, ICA, IPA) and most probably current/ previous accountant so they know what they are doing. They can be strict or not depending on their personal appreciation, threshold, or even mood.
For vetassess, if im the head of that organisation, yung mga internal audit applicants papaassess ko sa isang assessor na may knowledge sa internal audit talga to maintain integrity of my Company. And most probably thats what really happening in real scenario or else their reputation might be tarnished. Particular skills set might be assigned to those assessor na qualified mag assess for that field.
The point is put yourself on assessor shoes to gauge your chances.

If im right, in a general sense pare-pareho naman sila pagdating sa bagay na to. They wanted to assess if your skilled employment equate to work at an appropriately skilled level ng nominated occupation mo.

based on what i did, nung nagwowork kasi ako sa Pinas, hindi p ganun kalaki ung company where I worked. Pero nung kumuha ako last year ng COE and JD pumirma ung 'Manager' nila although during my time there wala pa cya.

Then once you've passed it, CPAA will only credit experiences after that (post qualification).
I have been working as a Financial Analyst since 2006. I took the exam in Dec2012 and dahil dun CPAA will only recognized my experience after Dec 2012. Thus, they did not accredit my prior years experience. Did you claim points for experience pa rin?
Thank you so much.

From my understanding, some people take the above if they want to remedy a deficiency in their skills assessment (i.e. accounting theory lang kulang mo in order to get a positive skills assessment) - for cases such as this, logical lang na CPAA will only give you work experience AFTER you have completed your accounting theory deficiency.
Anyway, makikita mo naman kung ano ang dapat mong i-claim na points; they will indicate this in writing.

i took the exam kasi 11/12 ang initial assessment ko at etong accounting theory lang ang kulang at mandatory subject pa. yun nga ang concern ko, dahil last dec 2012 ko plang cya kinuha, wlang skilled employment ang nilagay sa akin ni CPAA. have you encountered anyone with the same experience in this post? nag claim kasi ako ng work experience even with this negative skilled employment assessment.
thank you.
sep 2012 - applied for cpaa skills assessement. negative due to accounting theory exam
dec 2012 - took the exam instead of providing additional documents
dec 2012 - received positive assessment from cpaa but zero skilled employment
can i still claim points for work experience?
thank you.

Back in December 2012; instead of taking the exam, you could have provided evidences in which you can convince CPAA that Accounting Theory was covered in your subjects in college. What I did for my wife was that I prepared a document in which I mapped out the subjects covered under Accounting Theory versus the subjects taken by my wife back in college. Kumbagi, since it is not covered under 1 subject, I did the hard way of proving to them that sufficient ang education ng wife ko to merit a positive assessment of skills sa CPAA.
But anyway, let's discuss on what you have done...
Can I still claim for work experience? I would say DON'T... Tama ka na DIAC is the sole authority to grant you points for work experience but you have to question yourself, kung CPAA nga (who is considered the authority for Accounting-related skills assessment) gave you zero work experience, paano mo ma convince ang DIAC to give you a few yrs of experience in order to claim points diba?
Ang mga tao sa DIAC, they are not experts in deciding whether or not a certain work experience can be credited or not hence they will more likely look upon the advise given by the assessing authorities.
My friend @wynx was not fully credited in his work experience by IPA - he did the right thing by claiming only what was assessed upon. Good thing for him though that he still reached the threshold which is 60pts.
The last thing we want to happen here is that you claim points for work experience that were not acknowledged by CPAA. DIAC will more likely side with CPAA on this matter and you will be in a very bad situation wherein you erroneously claimed for additional points not due to you. If such case happen, baka masayang lang yung A$3,060 mo...
If you don't mind me asking, how many points ka ba in all ex-work experience?
Cheers!!

For @CPAGirl -
- i was just wondering, baka kaya hindi ka nabigyan ng work experience assessment eh baka hindi ka nag-avail ng service?
- meron pong mga accountant dito, na wala ding assessed work experience from CPAA but they got their visa, but its because their CPAA assessment was done before Jul 2012, when DIAC is not yet requiring assessment on the work experience by the assessing authority..
- since Sept 2012 lang kayo nag start ng application, definitely you need to have that work exp assessment to claim points.

I know where poster is coming from; at first kasi negative yung skills assessment nya as she lacked Accounting Theory. To remedy that, she took an exam with CPAA - immediately after passing she was given a positive skills assessment na.
Now here comes the problem, CPAA will only recognize your work assessment after gaining qualification - in the eyes of CPAA, @CPAGirl only gained qualification after she passed the examinations and gained positive skills assessment. With this, bale wala yung 7 yrs work experience nya dating back to 2006.
Sad tale but ganito talaga sila... Several similar sad stories in other forums related to this.
Cheers!!
