First post! Hi guys, matagal na akong nagto-troll dito sa forum pero kanina ko lang nadecide na sumali na. Marami na akong nabasa na topics at sinisimulan ko sa unang post. Tulad nito, sinimulan ko kanina morning ang pagbabasa at ngayon lang ako natapos gabi. Syempre between breaks. Salamat sa mga info. May mga sumagi din sa isip ko na mga tanong.

Pwede ka na gumawa ng bank account online before ka pumunta sa au. Pagdating mo sa au, pakita ka lang proof ng identity para magamit mo na yung account -- pwede na ba ako magdeposit sa account before pumunta sa au?

Pati ba dependent wife gagawa din ng sarili nyang bank account, TFN at medicare?

@Obi - yes you can do open an account/remit money even while outside AU..

for TFN, yes individual po yan..
for medicare, you register as a family

You can do this online upon arrival... The TFN will arrive within a month after applying.

@dhey_almighty - this is a matter of personal choice... kung school naman yung son mo, I think this can be okey - provided that you have the mental strength as well as a budget that can last at least 3 months without a job.

finding work is very stressful, i can say that when me and my wife moved in here 5 months ago. nakakatako everyday na nagsesend ka ng around 25 applications and on the same day you will receive around 20 rejections...

it is also disheartening to find a job that is totally in line with what you have been doing, only to get a rejection letter afterwards.

by at the end of the day, sabi nila these challenges can only make the family unit stronger...

Just to give you more encouragement, we are a family of 5; me, my wife, 2 kids and 1 infant. We'll be going there sabay sabay with no work yet! Though may savings kami, it's still a risk. My mom will also be going with us pero around 3 months lang stay nya on a tourist visa, just to help us settle. Plan nmen is tipid tipid muna and hanap din odd jobs immediately...

well hopefully i can land a job before we head to oz...para naman kahit paano e makahinga ako ng ayos...but any odd job can do for as long as we can sustain sa Oz...

Yup, wala naman prob I-apply yun. She complied naman on all the requirements asked. She even mentioned in her tourist visa application na sasamahan nya kami until we are fully settled. Anyway, my mom is already retired and she has the means to support herself kaya I don't think bawal yun...

Ah sya ang nagprovide ng proof of funds to support herself. Makes sense. Gusto ko kasi isabay na mother ko with us kaso HW sya eh. So kami ang dapat mag show ng proof of funds to support her. Eh di ko alam kung valid ung savings sa bank. Nabasa ko kasi pag ang magsponsor eh ung PR dapat working na sa au (sa pagkakaintindi ko lang ha)

Ah, we did not sponsor her... my mom is also a housewife now (kaka-retire nya lang din kasi). Ang proof of funds nya ay mga credit cards nya and savings nya sa bank. Your mom can also do this on her own. Yung house nla pde din proof yun. Ang importante naman really is no.1 she has to show that she has a reason to comeback (proof of property, business, your dad's employment or contract) and no.2 is that she has the means to support herself (credit card, bank accounts etc). Diskarte ka nlng pano mo gagawin yun... good luck!

Kami we opt na mauna ako, nung stable na staka sumunod yung mag ina so wsla na sila masyado naging problema

Things to do First

Below is a list of 7 important things that you should do as soon as possible after arriving in Australia.

1. Apply for a Tax File Number (TFN)

Do this first. To receive an income in Australia, you need a Tax File Number (TFN).

2. Register with Medicare

The Australian Government provides help with basic medical expenses through a scheme called Medicare.

3. Open a bank account

In Australia, most income including salary or wages and government benefits are paid directly into a bank account.

4. Register with Centrelink

Centrelink is a government agency which delivers a range of services to the community.

5. Register for English Classes

Communicating in English is very important and the key to your successful settlement.

Eligibility:

You may be able to learn English with the AMEP if you hold a permanent visa, have little or no English, and:

are an adult (18 years or older)
are under 18 years of age and are not attending school. These clients may be eligible within their first 12 months of arrival to Australia)
Access to the AMEP is extended to some temporary visa holders as specified in the legislative instrument for 'English Courses for Holders of Certain Temporary Visas'.

You can study English with the AMEP for up to 510 hours or until you reach functional English, whichever comes first.

You should register for classes within six months of the date your visa commences and start classes within one year. You will have five years to complete classes. These timeframes may be extended in particular circumstances.

6. Enrol Your Children in School

Under Australian law, children must attend school until they are 15 years old.

7. Apply for a Driver's Licence

Information on gaining a driver's licence.

@legato09.. eto po ang form na dapt mong fil.upan pag nag apply ka ng medicare card..http://www.humanservices.gov.au/spw/customer/forms/resources/3101-1306en.pdf.. Find a nearest medicare/centrelink office kng saan po kayo magstay, bring this form together with ur passport and visa grant letter.

As you are only a couple you are not required to register on centrelink..

anyway, mejo tagilid tayong mga walang anak - hindi tayo supported ng centrelink...

TFN (Tagal ng TFN), Medicare, Bank Account, Driver's, - yan lang ung basic na dapat accomplish agad agad...
