@rjlim, I'm from St Marys, western side of Sydney but I work in the city.

oo nga noh? lol tama kasi via mail nga pala.

Honestly, i think money making ng pinas. nasa visa grant yung effective date eh. so it doent make sense. plus add to the fact na tayo lang ata sa buong mundo ang may ganun na tax.

Am i correct?

Lets say granted na visa mo pero hindi ka pumunta ng AU at lumipas na yung "Must Make First Entry to Australia Before (date)". Ano ba mangyayare? valid padin ba yung visa mo?

Ano ba mangyayare? valid padin ba yung visa mo?

Who are exempted from paying the Travel Tax?
Filipino citizens who are permanent residents abroad and Balikbayan visitors,
who have stayed in the Philippines for less than one year (under Sec. 2 (1) of
Executive Order No. 283, which amended P.D. No. 1183, as amended). Also
exempted are Overseas Filipino Contract Workers.

,medyo tricky to no. Iba ba yung PR sa OFW? hindi ka naman au citizen, so technically kahit pr ka, ofw ka diba?

@xiaolico based daw kc sa PDOS, ang OFWs are temporary migrants whereas ung PR visa holders are Permanent migrants.

Ung mga exempted from travel tax are those who are already residing abroad and went back sa pinas for a vacation or short period (less than one year).

Someone during our PDOS asked this and the facilitator told us na hindi pa daw kmi exempted from paying the travel tax during our first departure sa pinas.

@xiaolico medyo magulo nga talaga yung rules, madaming grey areas.

Kasi pede ka ba maging PR(resident ng isang bansa) kung ang hawak mo lang is visa letter at hindi ka pa dumaan sa immigation or ni tumapak man lang sa australian soil? I think for this, hindi... hindi ka pa PR pero meron kang visa para ma maging PR at ma aactivate lang yun kapag dumaan ka na sa immigration ng AU. Kumbaga yung visa mo is privilege palang para maging PR.

Parang tourist.

I might be wrong pero eto yung pag kakaintindi ko.

Pero all in all dapat talaga walang travel tax. lahat nalang sa pinas tinataxan tapos hindi mo maramdaman saan napupunta tax mo.

I agree with @Noodles12 isa pa example nito is pag mag aapply kana as citizen.

AU honors the PR visa even before ka umapak sa AU. Yun activated na PR on both of your definitions ha. Bakit kailangan mo mag CFO seminar and bakit kailangan mo mag bayad ng travel tax?

Kami po nagpapalit ng from USD to PHP then PHP to AUD kasi wala kaming makitang nagpapalit directly ditto. Mukha naming walang masyadong difference pag directly USD to AUD.

    Question po on money matters:
    1. How did you transfer BDO savings account fund to your Australian Bank?
    2. Has anyone tried opening ANZ bank dito sa pinas? Are the process of opening and activating the accounts the same?

Related to question no. 2 - corporate banking po kinecater ni ANZ dito Pinas dati wala pong personal accounts. Ngaun they have pulled out even the commercial banking as far as I know. NAB will be the best option via online.> @Noodles12 said:

As per the instructor, hindi exempted and mga migrants sa travel tax unlike yung mga OFWs. Isa daw un sa mga sinusulong nila na maexempt tayo..yung travel tax na binayaran natin is valid for one year just present daw yung receipt...not sure how accurate this is.

Sharing our preparations done for our Big Move on February 9, 2020:

    1. Purchase airfare via CebuPacific. Naghanap po kame ng cheapest airfare online and found cebupac. Direct flight to Melbourne Tullamarine Airport. Note: You can purchase discounted airfares from IOM (International Organization for Migration) by visiting their office in Makati. I believe they offer free baggage allowance along with the purchased airfare through them.

    2. Attended our Pre-Departure Orientation Seminar at CFO. This requires online appointment and they only schedule emigrants bound for Australia and New Zealand every tuesday of the week only with limited slots of 60 pax per session. They will provide the CFO sticker required before exiting Philippine migration.

    3. Opened National Australia Bank online through migrant banking option. We opened a joint account as well as a NAB iSaver account. Upon registration, they emailed us the welcome letter which indicated our bank account number, BSB (equivalent to SWIFT code po ata eto), and branch of account. Two days after receiving our welcome letter, we received an email for online banking registration. We registered our account for the online banking as well as the NAB app. Note: Only a single account can be registered kahit joint account ang type ng account namin. So my wife and I are using the same account. (We will confirm this upon activation sa bank in AU). We were able to track and monitor all incoming transfers through the NAB app.

    4. Remitted our savings (PHP to AUD) through the following options:

    a. Peer-to-Peer exchange (SGD to AUD): May relatives si wife na currently working sa Singapore, and we did an exchange from their POSB account to NAB account free of any transfer fees. The SGD to AUD transfer is immediate kapag weekdays and before 12pm po ata while it will be credited sa account on Monday kapag nagfall ng weekend ung transfer. Then BDO savings to BDO savings account naman for the PHP transfer.

    b. Peer-to-Peer exchange (AUD to AUD): May mga members in 'Pinoy in Melbourne' fb group page na nagpopost ng need ng PHP. So we did an exchange for the transfer of money from their AUD bank to our NAB bank account. We negotiated the rates and performed the transaction. We deposited the PHP to their BDO savings account. The duration of the transfer naman for AUD bank to AUD bank is 24 hours and zero transfer fees (CommWealth Bank to NAB). Pero if the transfer was done beyond 6pm of Friday, sa Monday na maccredit. IMPORTANT NOTE: Be careful lang sa ganitong transactions kasi baka may mga hindi mapagkakatiwalaan na mga tao na baka tumakbo once you have completed your side of the transfer. One thing we did through this is we exchanged government identifications (Passport) and verified some information. We also did multiple transaction para maassure namin ang isa't isa that we will commit to the agreed transaction.

    c. Remittance: We registered sa I-remit through visiting their office at Discovery Center building, ADB Avenue, Ortigas sa likod ng SM Megamall. They only charge 10aud per transaction and they have competitive rates. I checked the current google rate at the time we registered and it was 35.04php to 1.00aud. When we they gave us the exchange rates, it was 35.29php to 1.00aud. So maliit lang yung difference nya and for us was within our target rates. For first time remittance, they require: Physical presence during the registration and valid identification card. For succeeding remittance, they provided an email address we can contact and viber number to perform virtually the remittance. We provided them the bank, branch, account number and BSB as well as the PHP cash (although you can deposit the php to their various bank accounts in the Philippines). The fund was credited the next day before 12nn.

So far yan po ang naging preparations namin.

Kamusta? Di na ako masyadong nakakabisita dito at nakakasagot sa questions since busy starting life here in Vic.

Stressful lahat from visa application, waiting for invite, waiting for grant, prepping for BM, looking for work, looking for house, settling in, magbuo ng gamit, mamili ng appliance, getting my family here.

Pero isa lang ang masasabi ko: it's all worth it. Yung luha, pagod, literal na pawis, literal na dugo (sa pagbuo ng ikea magisa), bawi lahat nang yan once you start your life here.

Kaya if napanghihinaan kayo ng loob, gusto nang mag give up, KAPIT lang at TRUST in HIS plans. Makakaraos din. :)

@xiaolico sa mga case na ganito from SG to AU then uwi PH then balik AU. Kung matagal kana nag stay (6months ata) may option kana wag mag seminar and continue kana sa next process which is sticker.
