Hi everyone, first post ko dito. :)

We've been granted Visa 175 last Feb 2012 but we couldnt migrate this year. Just to meet our cut-off date, we'll be going to Sydney this October for 3 weeks.

My question now is, can I still or should I still do Items 1-4 if we will go back to Phils?
Apply for TFN, Register with Medicare, Open a Bank Account and Register with Centrelink?

Anyone here who registered and went back to Phils?

    thanks in advance! :)

Hi all share ko lang yan din iniisip ko upon arrival in sydney first ko cguro gagawen mag open ng bank account. Mahirap na if maholdap if lahat ng pera mo nasayo tas bglang mawawala la pa naman akong job when I get to aus mag aaply pa lang.

I called anz this morning cuz I was thinking of applying an anz account here in Singapore, so that all my funds are there and when I arrive in sydney I can just withdraw it. But the anz staff did not advise me to do that. Once you withdraw money from you anz account in sg, you will still pay overseas charges for it so advisable better open yer bank account pag nasa aus kana talaga.

@JClem Dito na ko nag open. don't worry sa minimum initial deposit. pwede ka mag open sa NAB kahit na wala ka pa pera.. as in pwede ka mag open ng zero balance. wala sila minimum balance, (unlike sa pinas babawasan ka ng 200pesos a month pag below minimum).

@paris_hipon Go to the ANZ branch in Raffles Place and ask help to open an offshore AUD account... This is possible but you cannot access it unlike you are in Oz physically.

As shared by a colleague before who migrated to Oz; she said she opened an AUZ offshore (Australia acct) here in Singapore, she deposited her money there and when she finally migrated, she just presented herself to an ANZ branch in Melbourne and presented some documents. From there, her account was activated into a regular account...

Nag open po ako account sa commonwealthbank. Got my keycard already. Kapag 2kaud and above wala ka monthly account keeping fee kapag below that, meron $4-6 monthly account keeping fee.

Yun TFn ko naman from 12 years ago active pa din, so nag-update lang ako address and contact number.

Hanggang kailan pwedeng gamitin yung overseas driver's license? Hanggang sa ma-expire? Kailan dapat kumuha ng Aussie license? #offtopic

Before doing the list below I highly suggest:

    1. Have a break first by going to the nearest park.
    2. Buy your own Cadburry, Lindt or whatever choc or coffee you like. Enjoy it and pat yourself on the back while saying "well done!"
    3. Call your parents or nearest relatives how surreal the experience is.
    4. Call your friends in Oz as they might invite you to experience your first bbq experience.
    5. Go to the church and thank Him likewise ask Him to help you adjust.

Below posts are a must do...
    Things to do First

Below is a list of 7 important things that you should do as soon as possible after arriving in Australia.

    1. Apply for a Tax File Number (TFN)

Do this first. To receive an income in Australia, you need a Tax File Number (TFN).

    2. Register with Medicare

The Australian Government provides help with basic medical expenses through a scheme called Medicare.

    3. Open a bank account

In Australia, most income including salary or wages and government benefits are paid directly into a bank account.

    4. Register with Centrelink

Centrelink is a government agency which delivers a range of services to the community.

Check first your eligibility link: http://www.centrelink.gov.au/internet/internet.nsf/forms/claim_index.htm

    5. Register for English Classes

Communicating in English is very important and the key to your successful settlement.

    Eligibility:

You may be able to learn English with the AMEP if you hold a permanent visa, have little or no English, and:

are an adult (18 years or older)
are under 18 years of age and are not attending school. These clients may be eligible within their first 12 months of arrival to Australia)
Access to the AMEP is extended to some temporary visa holders as specified in the legislative instrument for 'English Courses for Holders of Certain Temporary Visas'.

You can study English with the AMEP for up to 510 hours or until you reach functional English, whichever comes first.

You should register for classes within six months of the date your visa commences and start classes within one year. You will have five years to complete classes. These timeframes may be extended in particular circumstances.

    6. Enrol Your Children in School

Under Australian law, children must attend school until they are 15 years old.

    7. Apply for a Driver's Licence

Information on gaining a driver's licence.

Malamang next nyan is 1st day sa job. hehe...

Sa driving right side dito and yung international license yes 3 months lang and you need to take an exam then kung sanay ka sa right side driving yung mga traffic rules ipraktis otherwise yung sanay sa left dagdag praktis syempre. Yan ang proof nyo na wala kayong traffic record and since when kayo nagstart magdrive. Para may idea kayo magkano ang mga kotse both brand new and second hand go to
www.carsales.com.au.... wag mag alala pautangan dito basta mameet mo requirements...

For example cost of living as per writing sa Sydney ng isang couple or single. I guess mas mabuti yun dahil yan naman ang cost of living something like that.... likewise folder kung saan pwede post mga FAQ.

Thank you po madam sa reply sana ma meet kita pagdating kojan sa sydney hehehe mgdadala ako ng ba kwah from singapore baka gusto nio hehehe :D
Sa driving right side dito and yung international license yes 3 months lang and you need to take an exam then kung sanay ka sa right side driving yung mga traffic rules ipraktis otherwise yung sanay sa left dagdag praktis syempre. Yan ang proof nyo na wala kayong traffic record and since when kayo nagstart magdrive. Para may idea kayo magkano ang mga kotse both brand new and second hand go to
www.carsales.com.au.... wag mag alala pautangan dito basta mameet mo requirements...

@brent God has plans for us..
Hehe.. Goodluck!
