    Saan City ka mag-lland bro?

I arrived in Sydney around 11PM, so sarado na lahat ng kiosk ng Optus, Vodafone, and Telstra kaya di ako nakabili ng SIM doon, sa City na mismo

Merong SIM cards sa 7-eleven, and most convenience stores, then if you walk around the city/malls may mga shops din..

Then I bought a MyMulti Ticket Pass sa Airport Link station, it was good for 7 days unlimited rides na yun sa lahat ng network of Trains, Buses, and Ferries sa Zone1,2,3 of Sydney.. $65 sya... then additional $23 ata para doon sa Airport Link gate pass, para makapasok at labas ka ng Sydney airport if you will be going or coming to/from the train...

Hi! Magtatanung lang po sa mga expert natin dyan... we're planning to have a 9-day vacation in Sydney around October para lang ma-satisfy muna yun initial entry.

    Salamat!

@yosh10 Hi! I have the same question!

    1. What are the advantages and disadvantages of getting a TFN?
    2. If we applied for TFN, hihingi na rin ba sila ng tax sa mga assets mo and investments mo abroad?

@RoseG @yosh10 about sa question above, yes pwede ka magfile then after average of 22 days, mail nila sa address na binigay mo when u applied for it. Ganoon sa case ko.

About other questions, di ko po alam sagot as of now.

dont take chances if there will be complication if you have a TFN with permanent residency in Australia (as per your visa) and getting paid working overseas.

    ingat ka sa double taxation.

    1. What are the advantages and disadvantages of getting a TFN?
    2. If we applied for TFN, hihingi na rin ba sila ng tax sa mga assets mo and investments mo abroad?

    1. there are no disadvantages for having a TFN (no risks involved), also there are no advantages if you don't use it for its purpose (its lawful purposes lodging ITR, getting super plans, Bank and Financial investments, receiving assistance from Govt thru Centrelink). If you want to get TFN for the sake of having one, then its of no use.

    2. With or without TFN, If you have stayed in Australia for a total of 183 days between July 1 - June 30 (tax fiscal year), then you are considered as tax resident. you are obliged to declare ALL assets and liabilities including overseas. You are required to file an ITR using a TFN (even if you have liabilities or even if you dont have a job).

@peach17: Hi Peach, thanks for the response. So you mean, based on your experience, di pa naman natatax yung mga assets and investments mo abroad kahit declared sya sa ITR mo? Thanks.

@envy: very informative, thank you. hindi ba exempted ang Pinas sa double taxation? So far, as for my case, I don't think I will be needing one, pero kailangan ba TFN para makpgapply for Medicare? yun sana gusto ko apply para dyan ako makakanganak lang just in case.

    Thank you!!!

example dating ka dito July 10 2015.

    taxable ka sa pinas for 2015 (Jan 1 2015 to July 10 2015 = 200+ days)
taxable ka sa australia for 2015 (July 1 2015 to June 30 2016)

Yes, kailangan ang TFN to receive benefits thru Centrelink (and Medicare).

Bago ka mag plan ng maternity dito make sure you have everything covered, kasi may mga benefits that require ang 2 year residency, while private insurance requires 12 month waiting period or non pre-existing conditions.

@envy: Wow, ang bigat naman yan ng pagbayad ng tax, sa dalawang bansa. I guess kung initial entry lang naman kmi, di lang muna ko mag-aapply.

Yung sa medicare, confusing lang kasi meron akong nakitang post na even less than a year of residency, may makukuha ka ng benefits from Medicare, actually parang lahat. PR visa din kami ni hubby. Please read the post below and kindly let me know your thoughts. This post was way back 2012. Thanks!

Hi! I just gave birth last Sep 30 here in Melbourne. We're holders of PR visa and we got here in AU mid of January... So, we've only been here for 8.5 months when I gave birth.

I didn't pay a single centavo for the check-ups, tests (i.e. blood test, glucose, etc), ultrasound and delivery / hospital stay... We just used Medicare for everything. I was under shared cared... Meaning I was seeing a GP in the community health centre and an OB in the the hopital (Mercy Hospital for Women which is a first-class public hospital).

As for the pregnancy vitamins like Vitamin D and multivitamins, I purchased it from the Chemist.

For the benefits, I'm entitled to claim Baby Bonus which does not have residency requirement.

    @RoseG

    case per case basis RoseG.

You'll only know if you are entitled to receive benefits once you register and they made a full assessment of your situation.

speaking about tax, I've heard you could avail the services of a tax accountant to help you file your tax and reimbursable daw yung fee nya. Is this true?

deductible for the next financial year... to put simply, you will get a "discount" based on your highest tax rate.

for example lang - $100 ang bayad ni accountant; the following year, you will deduct $100 in your taxable income and if your top tax rate is 32.5% parang lumalabas na meron ka "discount" sa tax accountant mo na $32.5 as you will pay a lesser tax bill by this amount.
