Newbie po here at nagbabalak mag-migrate sa Australia with my defacto partner and 3yo kid. Nagbabasa-basa na po ako pero iba pa din ang own shared experiences kaya gusto ko sana humingi ng advices. We are considering both skilled migration and student visa (max of 2 years lang sana if ever). Preferably in NSW where my relatives are so they can provide our needs atm. Here are our info:
1. Mommy - graduate of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from UPLB (Section1), licensed, practiced with animal hospital for 1 year then 3 years with own pet clinic as vet and proprietress. Sideline as RareJob online English Tutor and Odesk Freelance Writer. Got brother/aunts/uncles that are willing to sponsor either for student visa or any kind of visa (lol).
Prob: DVM from Phil is not recognized unless you take the NVE (Australian Exam) but not recommended (due to discrimination and cost).
Alternatives:
A. Other SOLs: Agricultural Consultant/Technician but I think I need farm work experience first (idk if okay na yung 1 year magtrabaho sa farm as Vetassess quoted "1 year most relevant experience" and kung marerecognize kahit hindi BS Agriculture) or Medical Administrator because I own the pet clinic.
B. Student Visa: I don't have any idea kung anung course ang most possible/fastest/cheapest option para mapasama sa SOL list to permanent residency din. I checked TAFE and read din here na basta may cricos and >92weeks ok na. Maganda din daw na relevant sa previous course. Meron yung veterinary nurse cert IV / Master of VetMEd/ diploma of permaculture pero wala naman sa SOL list. May nagsuggest din na Master of Accountancy pero mawawala na daw sa SOL.
2. Daddy - diploma of Computer Engineering Technology form QCPU (Section 3), 3 years with company, 3 years with our pet clinic as computer technician/groomer/assistant. NC1&2 Automotive Technology from Tesda without experience yet. No relatives in Australia.
Prob: He got only a diploma not bachelor's degree. Computer Technician is not in SOL list. Automotive experience is needed.
Alternatives:
A. Practice Automotive for 5 years in the Philippines.
B. Make the computer technician diploma a BS degree here or Aus (idk how)
C. Student Visa: Any kind but my relatives would opted to have me as the primary applicant in this visa.
Aside from these, magkakaroon na ng skillselect na hindi namin alam if advantageous or not. We checked state sponsorship and employer-sponsored pero negative. With regards to IELTS I think I have better chances of getting a higher score than my partner that could be advantageous as a primary applicant.
Any comment/ suggestion/ recommendation would be a great help.

a) COST - if you are saying mahal ang NVE, would it cost you the same amount to take a new course?.. un nga lang pag student visa na kayo, pwde kayo sponsor ng relatives nyo and you can work part time in australia..
b) TIME consideration - pag student visa, mas mabilis n agad alis, compared sa time na kailangan for vet skills assessment..
c) if you choose to enroll vet related course in australia, will you be required to take NVE again, or hindi na dahil australian school na kayo graduate?
looking at all these factors, mukhang mas okay na route ang student visa...
just my opinion.. good luck po!!

with regards sa NVE, aside from cost (bout 1Mphp exam pa lang) wala pa kasing success stories from Philippine applicants and highly discouraged by alumni. If I would take the DVM course in Australia, I need to complete the 5years full term (plus full payment) para hindi na mag-NVE. kung meron mang ma-ccredit from previous course, need pa din bayaran ng buo. anlupit talaga.
if we will have student visa, would it be just a way to find a working permit sponsor or it could be recognized para maging SOL after getting a diploma? for example, kapag ba kumuha ako ng TAFE 2yrs diploma of permaculture pwede na sya bilang SOL for agricultural consultant? pano ba ang ginagawa usually ng mga bearer ng student visa para maging PR?
maraming salamat po ^^

Do ensure you have at least 3 months back up funds when you move here.

How big should a 3-month backup fund be?

They grant a bridging gap visa to certain degrees. Hence, nag over supply ng employees on certain industry. Unfortunately, close na yung website na www.philippines.com.au, andami nagblog run hindi makahanap ng work for 3 months. Hopefully, things will get better. For single, at least 5k usd if wala kang matutuluyan and you're on your own. Mabuti na yung handa.
