AITSL assessment

Hi!

Please help me understand the assessment qulaification for AITSL, esp regarding the 45 days of supervised teaching.

Here in the Philippines, supervised teaching is known as OJT, and usually we have 300 hours of that.

Does anybody know the equivalent hours of the required 45 days of supervised teaching?

Thank you.

    Hello, @keziahsiscar! Actually, rather than OJT, supervised teaching in the Philippines is more commonly known as practicum. The supervised teaching practice required by AITSL is just a MINIMUM of 45 days. So since we usually have our practicum for ONE WHOLE SEMESTER (which in my case, from November to March, is approximately 95 school days), we definitely satisfy that prerequisite.

    To give proof for this requirement, you'll just have to ask for certification from the school where you had your practicum and ask them to state the required details (duration of supervised teaching practice and age range of students taught).

    Good luck!

    EDIT: So if you're sure that you definitely had 300 hours of teaching practice, if converted to number of days, then that is only 12.5 days. But of course, we'll also have to take in consideration that the conversion was divided by 24 hours. Obviously, we only spend a certain number of hours in school for practicum. I'm sure that your school (where you had your practicum) will be able to answer your queries regarding the duration of your teaching practice.

    i already got a certification from UP that i had a total of 150 hours for 1 semester or 3hrs/day in 16 weeks.

    I can only use 1 semester wherein i taught 4's and 5's class (the other semester was for toddlers class, which age group is not qualified for pre-primary teachers)

    Im hoping that its enough already for the required 45 days of supervised teaching. If not, my 600$ will go down the drain.

    Since you already have the certification and your assessment process seems to be ongoing already, I guess the only thing left to do is to wait for the results to come out. Since you mentioned that you did your practicum with toddlers and you are from UP, I am assuming that you're an FLCD graduate. I remember seeing UP FLCD under one of the degrees that were formerly approved by ACECQA, which is another organization that approves/assesses Early Childhood Teachers in Australia. Since that degree is on the list, then surely they must've passed the assessment from AITSL, since that is the first step.

    Good luck! Let us know how your assessment goes. :)

    @sunflower

    I have a question din about this. I just consulted a migration agent and she said that my 60 days supervised teaching (3 to 6yrs) is not accepted as AITSL requires 3 to 8yrs daw. So I'm missing 7 to 8. I was really bothered by this as I'm quite sure not a lot of schools in Manila (studied in MC) even here in Australia place their students across the whole age range.

    I called AITSL and they said na my supervised teaching experience (60 days/3to6yrs) is accepted. However, in the website it says ACROSS 3 to 8. So there is some kind of discrepancy there with the words used.

    @sunflower, may I ask if you did had your practicum from 3 to 8? As in, in each age group across that range?

    I've never heard of any school placing student teachers across the whole age range either. Medyo confusing lang yung ginamit nilang wording. I think ang ibig sabihin nila ay basta WITHIN that age range. I had my practicum with kindergarten students aged 5.5 to 6.5 and naapprove naman yung assessment ko, so I'm sure yours would be fine. Good luck!

    p.s. Migration agents can be helpful in some scenarios, but to be honest, they don't really know everything. So you did well by contacting the concerned department directly. :)

    @sunflower That's great to hear! Also, does AITSL require ACECQA assessment din? May I ask if you took your qualifications here in Australia or in the Philippines?

    Anyway, I know! Nalungkot ako when she said that, I paid $120 for wrong information. Sakit! lol

    Thank you so much.

    As far as I know (other teacher expats may correct me on this), AITSL assessment is only used for migration purposes. So while applying for let's say Visa 189 or 190, AITSL yung kailangan. ACECQA is not in any way related to the visa process. The ACECQA assessment is only used to verify if your qualifications are equal to Australian standards. If your degree/diploma/whatsoever is already on their formerly approved list, you don't even need to apply for assessment from them. So ayun, to answer your question, AITSL does NOT require an ACECQA assessment.

    I took my undergraduate degree in the Philippines (Bachelor of Elementary Education - Major in Teaching in the Early Grades, K-2). :)

    That's okay, we learn along the way. And this forum is really a lot of help!

    @sunflower That's what I know too. I think going to a Migration Agent just made it more confusing for me. Next time, I'll just ask around here.

    Thanks a lot and goodluck on your application! :)

    Hi, you don't need to be a registered teacher in the Philippines to be qualified in applying as a teacher in Australia. While having been registered implies that you have had some good number of years of teaching experience that may add to your points, Australia will require teacher applicants to submit to accrediting procedures prior to being "qualified" to teach. Initially, for the purposes of your
    migration application AITSL does not require applicants to be registered teachers in their home countries. You can visit the AITSL website for further guidance.

    Hope that helps!!

    Hi @xoxo0286! Sorry for the delayed reply. @kindred is right, you only need your undergraduate degree (masters, if you have) and practicum to be assessed by aitsl for migration.

    I know right now that elementary teachers are not included in the SOL for migration anymore.

    Good day sa lahat ng mga teachers,

    Tanong lang ako tungkol sa Mrs. ko, graduate siya ng Bachelor of Elementary Education at nagtapos din sya ng Diploma in Early Childhood Education at meron na din siya TOEFL. At sa kasulukuyan, nagtuturo sya dito sa International School sa Singapore. Gusto ko lang sanang itanong kung qualified ba sya makakuha ng positive assessment? At ano pa kaya ang mga kailangan requirement para ma achieve yung expected points? Maraming Salamat.

    Good day rin po sa inyo! If you're asking about the qualifications for migration to Australia, basically eto yung requirements:

    -Application form from the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL)
    -Award certificate for initial teacher education qualification
    -Academic transcript
    -Supervised teaching practice certification
    -IELTS Test Result Form (sadly, hindi naka-indicate sa website/form kung pwede ang TOEFL dahil IELTS specifically and nilista nila)
    -Payment (AUD 625.00)

    You can read more here: http://www.aitsl.edu.au/assessment-for-migration

    Regarding the expected points for the visa, you can read more here:

    salamat po sa mga detalye. Parang kulang pa yata sa experience ang misis ko kc hindi pa umabot ng 3 years yung experience nya sa ECT. Mix of middle school kc mga student nya at mukhang mahirapan sa points. Wala kami points sa experience at anu sa tingin nyu kung ok lang ba ang computation sa baba?

    Age = 30
    IELTS = 10
    Education Degree = 15
    experience = 0
    partner skill = 5
    state nomination = 5

    @atonibay
    Yung experience ko as ECT is during my practicum only. Right after graduation kasi, sa grade school na ako nagturo for the past 4 years. Basta related work experience, accepted yun.

    Anyway, without the state nomination, abot na kayo sa required minimum number of points, which is 60. So I say, go for it! :)
