How long did it take you to get a job?

@Filamokio . Congrats sa iyo... Mga ilang months din ang tyaga sa pag apply online while here in SG? Kami ganon din ginagawa ... but January pa kami punta ng Au.

@Khaosan_road, alam mo, initially Melbourne ang plano namin. Kasi gusto ko dun, pero yung husband ko nag decide na sa Sydney kami kasi andun nga ang mas madaming job opportunity for him. Good luck sa job hunting, I hope you get a good deal!

Guys,
I just would like to share my experience in job hunting.. Before arriving here in Australia, just most of you.. nag apply na ako sa mga IT companies sa Pinas pa lang.. siguro sa about 50 applications na ni pass ko... isa lang ang nag respond... then they asked me when ako punta Australia so that they can schedule me for an exam.. I arrived here in Australia last August 10 and had the exam last Aug 12... after passing the exam.. I undergone panel interview Aug 15... With a lot of prayers prayers .. as in.. lots of prayers.. I got a job offer last Monday (Aug 19), signed the contract last Aug 21... I'll be starting next week Monday (August 26)..

One thing I would suggest is to really study the job posting.. in my case.. since i'm on software testing.. may nakalagay sa ads na "ISTQB certification is an advantage"... so what I did is to study reviewers ng ISTQB and this really helped me passed the exam.. in terms of the interview..on top of really reviewing your resume .. be prepared sa mga non-conventional questions.. yung mga tipong psychological questions.. example... if you're given 3 buttons.. red.. yellow.. green.. ano ang i press mo and why? .. so kung di ka nakapag prepare..baka kabahan ka agad sa interview...for me ito yung first question..... i did not expect the question.. super kaba talaga ako.. buti na lang naka recover agad ako .... and finally.. LOTS OF PRAYERS... tawagan nyo na rin yung lahat ng favourite ninyong saints... ... in my case.. nag novena ako kay Padre Pio..... on the 9th day/last day of novena.... doon ako nag sign ng job offer.... daily Rosaries din...yung iba baka sabihin na OA.. pero ito yung time na we really need a lot of help from all sources...mahirap maghanap ng work kahit na nandito na sa Australia...

guys, tama bang pagdating ng November, most of the companies eh nag stop na mag hiring?

Usually kasi people go on holidays sa December... So simula pa cguro sa November bumabagal na daw talaga. No first hand experience yet though.

@multitasking may istqb certification kb? Congrats po. Sana nga mas mdali talagA if mero istqb certiication hubby ko meron naman. So talagang pumunta k ng oz for that nteriew o plan mo nadin talaga pumunta that time?

Oo nga po, aside sa seek at careerone, saan at paano po kayo dumidiskarte sa pagaapply? Kc sa seek at careerone d naman everyday may job posts in line sa expertise mo dba. So once mgsend ka e hintay na lang ng reply... I read na meron ngsesend 20-50 applications per day... paano po yun?

@peach17 oks lang yan. Take time to enjoy australia din in the mean time and try to get settled first. open a bank account, get your TFN, medicare, centrelink claims if applicable..etc... Sabay hanap ng work. wag masyado mapressure.

sis, sa seek pala hindi pa ako nakaka abot ng 50 applications. halos hindi nga ako maka 5 applications a day eh.
ang onti nang opening parang hindi nadadagdagan kaya nag wworry ako ngayon.

Hello! I started applying for I.T. jobs online as soon as I arrived in Sydney on April 27.
Finally, naka receive na din ako ng official job offer for a permanent position na in-applyan ko nung June.

Here's the timeline:
June 17 - Applied for the job thru seek.com
July 11 - Interview with HR
July 16 - Interview with the Dept. Head & TL
July 30 - I was informed by the HR that hiring for the role was cancelled due to restructuring (ouch)
August 13 - I was asked by the HR if I was still interested (yAy! of course I said yes )
August 20 - HR told me that the team thought I was too senior for the role and they did not have the budget for my experience level ( eye rolled, seriously???)
August 20 - I replied saying that I am really interested to join and willing to use my skills to contribute to their success (walang sukuan, hehe)
August 21 - HR replied saying that the team appreciates my enthusiasm and wants to meet with me again (yAy ulit)
August 23 morning - Interview with the team
August 23 afternoon - HR sent me the official job offer (thank GOD!)

The salary was way below what I asked for, but after tax, super, and projected monthly expenses, I figured out that I can still save around 30% of my net pay, that I think is good enough.

I'm single btw, and my budget includes phone, fare, haircut, insurance, remittance, allowance, utilities, grocery, etc. I'm staying with my sister, so my budget does not include rent.

Advice sa akin ni @TasBurrfoot before (thanks bro), at nababasa ko din dito, wag na muna masyadong mapili, at importante ang local experience.

Just want to share, my husband arrived in Sydney last Aug 6. And luckily (with fervent prayers and the Lord's grace) naka kuha siya ng job offer after two weeks, today he received his contract and will be starting next week.
