@Capuccino_2017 With the pandemic still ongoing in Australia, I believe the priority is on the healthcare-related occupations, at least until July 2021. We can only wait and see on how things will change in the next few months.

I believe this highly depends on your skills, experience, and your ability to adapt to the building construction practices applicable to the state/territory. I'm not working in the industry (yet), but I did learn from a friend who has worked in WA and NSW that the building construction practices from the two states are vastly different, owing to the difference in climate. WA is pretty much a desert, so their design and construction practices would be specific to keeping the heat out of the building, whereas NSW has a milder climate.
Some of the things that may affect likelihood of scoring an interview would be knowledge of the NCC (National Construction Code, or the building code) and relevant Australian Standards. I've seen plenty of job postings for architectural draftsperson/technician/assistant roles to have this. Software knowledge and skills is another thing, but this varies depending on where you're applying. Big companies are looking for those who are proficient or experienced in Revit or ArchiCAD, whereas smaller firms may still be using 2D CAD softwares.

The number of online job postings does not dictate the inclusion of a specific occupation code to the skill shortage list. Getting a PR visa does not guarantee you a job offer in the industry. I know someone who arrived as a migrant in 2019, but until now cannot secure a job even as a draftsperson (despite having years of experience overseas).
Yes, there are tons of job postings, but HR people are very picky on whom to hire, so they're more likely to hire onshore applicants with local experience. From what I've observed, the architecture industry is pretty small, and designers just jump from one place to another, so vacancies open up when they move companies or move interstate.
The upcoming projects for NSW (like the airport in the southwest) is mostly infrastructure (hence the neverending demand for engineers). I'm not quite sure how much architectural work would be involved in the development of the aerotropolis. But we'll just have to wait and see how things go, especially with the pandemic still ongoing, health-related occupations pa rin ang priority nila.

Hello! I'm planning to apply for the 189 visa. To bump up our points, we're hoping to include my wife's skill as an architectural draftsperson. Gusto ko lang maclarify kung need din nya ng assessment from VETASSES? Salamat!

Thank you so much for your reply, I highly appreciate.. thanks also for sharing your inputs as well about archi.. we get an idea and know more of whatโs really going on there and what to expect.. hoping thereโll be also a need for archi not just for draftings, but we can be also involve in BIM Revit or Site Archi Coordination works.. supervisor on finishings, interior works.. etc..

I believe to claim partner points, your partner has to have an occupation in the same category as you. For the 189, you both have to have occupations on the MLTSSL, but architectural draftsperson is only on the STSOL. If she can get a positive skills assessment from AACA, then you may be able to get the partner points. Sadly, it's inadvisable for PH archi grads to do AACA skills assessment because it will likely fail.
You can read more on the partner points for 189 visa here:
https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/visas/getting-a-visa/visa-listing/skilled-independent-189/points-table
Hope this helped you understand the scenario better.

You're welcome. There's actually some demand for BIM Managers or architectural technicians with lots of BIM experience, but again the key issue that seems to arise is "local work experience."
The way I see things (just my opinion ha), migrants are more like "outsiders" because they have no knowledge of and experience in the Australian workplace. Knowledge of Australian building codes/regulations are key to practicing the profession, but it will take months or years to teach/train a new migrant about these stuff. I'm guessing that's why they prefer someone who's had years of local experience, instead of a new migrant. Not all companies have the time, resources, or an experienced employee willing to train a newbie, because training involves work hours that could be spent on billable tasks instead. Australia's minimum wages are one of the highest in the world, so living costs in Australia is quite high due to the fact that companies pay a lot for labour.
In case no one in this forum has mentioned it (or maybe no one really knew about this), it's quite common for Australians to start working part-time from age 15 or 16, even for just a retail or hospitality job (like McDo). Then when they go to for further education (whether VET or university), they would look for part-time work in design firms while they study, so they get exposed to the industry quite early. By the time they graduate from MArch (which is required if they're looking to register as an architect), they could easily have at least 3 years of industry experience, which is pretty much the minimum that employers are looking for.
Those young Australians with years of knowledge and experience is what we're competing against. Even though our architectural training is more technical (wala sila masyadong engineering sciences sa curriculum nila), sa palagay ko mas habol ng companies ang knowledge on local regulations and software skills (Adobe Creative Suite).

IMO, meron pero konti. I know some friends na tinuloy nila paglipat sa TAS at may job naman na sila though hindi archi related. I would advice na maghintay na lang ng ibang states na mag-open kung saan mas okay ang opportunities.

I don't think your pregnancy is an issue for lodging EOI. If you are okay with going to Tassie to migrate (like wala naman family ties in other states that would affect your decision to lodge for 491 in Tassie), then just go for it. It's just EOI anyway, not PR application. You still have the option to withdraw your EOI for Tassie should other states open up.
Most jobs in Australia aren't advertised; I've heard 15-20% lang ang advertised. People get jobs here based on networks (people you know), so not all companies will bother to create an advert for a job when they could just interview people recommended by their current employees. Also, there are many small design companies around Australia, so don't limit yourself to looking at Seek. I'm not saying that there are tons of archi jobs in Tassie, just that what you see online is not representative of the actual industry.
Besides, it's pretty common that new migrants don't instantly get a job in their nominated occupations upon arrival, so they take on any kind of job they could get just to pay the bills (as @wallflower11 has shared). In my opinion, working in other sectors isn't a bad thing---it actually opens you up to other ways of thinking/approaching things, and you can learn lots of transferable skills (which are what employers are looking for in Australia). Building design and architectural practice in Australia is also somewhat different, so it'll take you some time to get settled and get up to speed on the laws, codes, regulations (laging hinahanap nila ang knowledge on NCC, AS, DA/DC/CC).
