I've read your previous comments about taking Master of Architectural Science like you did, kudos to that. But do you have any opinion on graduate diplomas? yeah, cause they're quite cheaper than the master's.
Anyway i'll probably need to hire an agent.

You are nominating architectural draftsperson, so I think it's not necessary for you to do a master's degree---unless gusto mo talaga. In my opinion, doing a Master of Architecture could get you a positive skills assessment for architect (thus skipping the OQA pathway), pero yun nga mahal ang uni fees.

Graduate Diploma is AQF Level 8, which is higher than a bachelor degree but lower than a master's degree. If studied full time, it is only a one-year study (Graduate Certificate is for one sem lang). It is, of course, cheaper than a 2-year master's degree, but as far as I know, the only ones usually offering Graduate Diplomas are universities. Bale parang exit options sila if you don't want to complate a full master's degree. At USyd they offer GradDip and GradCert for Architectural Science, but wala for Architecture (they only have MArch). UniMelb offers a GradCert in Design for Health and Wellbeing.

    https://study.unimelb.edu.au/find/courses/graduate/graduate-certificate-in-design-for-health-and-wellbeing/

Take note that the Graduate Diploma is different from a Diploma or Advanced Diploma, which are actually lower than a bachelor degree. If you are looking to upskill within the architecture field, I would recommend Master of Architecture or the GradDip/GradCert programs, unless you are looking to change industry/field. You can probably get away with doing a diploma or advanced diploma, pero kailangan talaga ma-justify mo yung "downgrade" to a lower AQF level sa GTE mo. Usually kasi hinahanap ng immigration officer yung progression of study (meaning yung aaralin mo is higher dun sa previous qualification mo).

    AQF Level Qualification Degree Level
    5 Diploma - Undergraduate
    6 Advanced Diploma - Undergraduate
    7 Bachelor degree - Undergraduate
    8 Graduate Certificate - Postgraduate
    8 Graduate Diploma - Postgraduate
    9 Master degree - Postgraduate

Aw thank you so much @athelene, so much insight from this <3 to you Mdm.
you make it so clear, im looking into this - Master of Architecture or the GradDip/GradCert programs. Uni in VIC is my first option cause we have relatives there. The evaluation is quite high, but i think its worthwhile. :| :|
Just an update we've engaged an agent based in Melbourne, someone we knew way back.

If you're considering to study in Melb, have a look at University of Melbourne and RMIT, as they have may have more scholarship opportunities. Pwede rin sa Deakin in Geelong if you want to get points for studying in regional area, but I'm not sure if they have scholarships specifically in architecture (for sure meron si UniMelb).

hmmm guys, what are your opinions if i took student visa pathway?

As an agent myself, it all depends on your circumstance. If single lesser risk vs having dependents.

Note that student visa is the most expensive pathway to migrate via skilled pathway and it’s not a guaranteed outcome.

Question lng po. I’m an architect po dito sa ph with almost 7yrs of experienced. I’m planning po to work in Australia as architectural draftsman, ano po kaya applicable visa for me na pwede ma applyan? Thank you.

Hi everyone! Hope someone can help me out.

I'm a licensed architect in the ph, with 4 yrs exp and I am currently thinking of migrating to Australia (long term goal is PR) through student pathway. I know I have other better cheaper options, but all of them seem such long waits, I would like to come to oz asap for personal reasons. I also need to be located in Sydney since I already have a place to live there.

So basically I want to work as a ce draftsperson after my studies. I think this somehow gives better pr chances than architectural draftsperson, and I've always had quite an interest in engineering. So Im planning to take Diploma of Civil Construction Design in tafe nsw.

My problem is, it's duration is only 75 weeks in CRICOS. I know that I need 92 weeks Australian Studies to have a positive assessment when I apply for 485 (which i believe is my next step).

    Questions:
    1. How should I fill in the remaining weeks I need? Do I need to start with Certificate IV first? My budget is limited so I can't afford getting a bachelors degree.
    2. Are there other course options (ie diploma of building and construction? diploma of building design?) that can lead to ce draftsperson employment? If there are cheaper options preferrably in sydney, id appreciate all suggestions.

    Other Notes:
    1. I know some architects from the ph have directly applied as ce draftsperson as their nominated occupation. But I don't have enough experience with it; I have more architectural exp, hence this student visa pathway. I really do want to study for upskill purposes also
    2. I don't have a migration agent (only educ) so I'm trying to learn all of these on my own. So if this seems like a bad risky plan, I'd appreciate all opinions as well. :) Thanks po!

Consider checking out recruitment agencies like https://bloomfieldtremayne.com.au/jobs/ baka sakaling may role na appropriate for your skill level and experience. Most people find their jobs via networks, so ideally you learn to start networking/meeting people through events, job fairs, etc. Update your LinkedIn profile, as some recruiters specialising in architecture are also on LinkedIn.

However, for new migrants, I would recommend starting in small firms to build up your work experience in Australia. Lagi kang hahanapan ng "local experience" as most large companies do not have the time and resources (people) to train newly-arrived migrants, whereas small practices may be more willing to train people.

Also, make your CV more targeted/tailored. Don't send a generic CV to all the companies. The tailoring of your CV shows your effort and dedication to really getting to know the company.

Best visa to have is PR (190/491 because architectural draftsperson is only on the STSOL), but you will have to go through the skills assessment and migration pathway. It's also possible to get a temporary work visa, but I don't know how easy/difficult it will be to get one for that occupation during this time (pandemic).

Hi po. Possible po ba or meron po b dito na architect tapos nag student visa? Pwede po kaya na instead of BS arki or masteral ang kunin ko sa Australia mag tafe na lng ako related sa interior design since related naman yung dalawa. Para po mas mura sana. Tho di sya pathway to PR yung tafe course na yun, baka pwede ang sunod step ko is 190 visa at least may madagdag lng na points na nag aral ako dun. 😅 any insight po?

Mas mura ang TAFE definitely, but ID ba ang gusto mong pasukan na work down the line? Archi draftsperson pa rin ba ang ino-nominate mo after graduating from TAFE or ID na? Both occupations are STSOL lang so you'll have to weigh your options kung alin ang mas makakatulong para maka-migrate. Like will you get more points under archi draftsperson because you have overseas work experience? If ID ang ino-nominate mo, baka wala kang ma-claim na overseas experience because your experience was not post-graduation. Yes, you will get points for Australian study, but nominating ID for migration could lose you the work experience points. If you choose to still nominate archi draftsperson, the ID diploma will only contribute to Australian study points, but probably not much for employability after grad. Nagpaskills assessment ka na ba kay VETASSESS for archi draftsperson?

The eligibility requirements for 190 visa are quite tight nowadays. States are opting to choose people who are already onshore, have physical residency, have at least 6 months work experience in the nominated occupation, have ongoing job offer for at least a year, etc. While studying in a state can get you eligibility for 190, it's your employability after graduation that matters more nowadays.

FYI, If nominating interior design, it won’t work with skills assessment as it requires post qualification experience.

Hi, QUT used to have a 1-year MArch, but they've changed it to 2 years. Most MArch programs in Australia are 2 years, and they have to be accredited by the AACA if you want to get a positive skills assessment as an architect. You can check the list of accredited programs on AACA website:
    https://aaca.org.au/accreditation-of-architecture-programs/

Where you go to do your MArch depends on your interest, as universities are known for different things (yes, even though the MArch curriculum is pretty similar across Australian universities). USYD, UNSW, University of Melbourne, RMIT, and UTS are well-known for their architecture programs. You can have a look at the online handbook/curriculum of each uni to see which program you like best.

I've done two design studios at USYD, and my experience was pretty good (if not stressful, hehehe). I did a Digital Architecture and Sustainable Architecture studios, which meant we had to use digital tools (Rhino + visual scripting) or focus on designing sustainable buildings. Design studio in Australia is completely different from the Philippines, because you only work on one project per semester, and double ang credit weight ng studio as compared to other subjects.

I have a friend studying at University of Canberra, and sa kanila parang small cohort lang sila, and ang focus ng studio nila is more on heritage conservation or community. My friend is pretty happy with studying at UC though, kasi less stressful daw than other uni (wherein you have to really compete---pabonggahan ng design, ganun).

I see. Unfortunately 2 years na tlga ang programs nila dito. Maybe consider looking into scholarships at Melb Uni and Bond Uni? Alam ko may full scholarship sa Bond, but I haven't checked if open to international students. Sa Melb most likely partial lang, but check mo nlng din in case may bagong scholarship sila na specific to architecture

Hello. I just want to share. Currently Architects and Architectural technologists are in the list of "Critical Skills" needed in Ireland (Republic of Ireland). You may want to check or consider Ireland. The latter occupation was just added this year, so the need is quite fresh pa.

I just got a job offer last late August. My Critical Skills Work Permit was approved just recently, this October, so they are not restricting to health care professionals only even this time.

Critical Skills Work Permit is a short path to Irish permanent residency (not exactly but equivalent) for only 2 years and is highly coveted but not quite popular. You may want to try your luck too if you like Ireland. Good luck!

is this still relevant up to date?

    Hi to All,
anyone po ba here applied thru an agent for Arki draftsperson?

i understand na covid kaya cguro di nya kami kinakausap pero right now nag bubukas na yun border then the fiscal year starts parang getting ready at mga good news ang lumalabas about AU.
then we send message na nasa critical skill ang arki dratfs... yong reply nya is parang kulang na lang sabihin nya na inaatay ko lang na maglapse yun EOI nyo. :((( naka pag bayad na kami ng more than half, hindi nman biro ang bayad sa kanya fee na P170k.

Is it possible kaya na gumawa na din ako ng sariling EOI for back up?
should I let them know kaso baka kase icancel nya na kami ng tuluyan sayang nman yun EOI at binayad.
antagal na namin umaasa tapos ang agent parang no care.. ganun ba talaga pag agent?
    sobrang sad. :(
sorry dito ko pa nabuhus yun hinanakit.

Check your contract. The contract I have with clients is that they can’t liaise directly with authorities ie skills assessment, eoi or visa application stage without coordinating with us first. This is to avoid messing up your case which in the end we will have to sort out for you, in short, headache for us. In case a client wants to take matters in his/her hand, likely we will suggest a termination of our services because it won’t work with 2 in charge. The client either entrusts us to represent them or not.

As an agent myself, I don’t think it’s unfair to read those comments. The last 2 years, borders were shut, no offshore has been invited so nothing progressed from EOI stage. This is beyond anyone’s control. Even for any agent. Architectural draftsperson is on ACT critical list - is that what you were referring to? The problem with this is only less than 5 people will be invited a month so to be honest, that’s like shooting the moon.

Yes borders have been open the last few months but the Australian migration program 2021-2022 was still in place so it’s still limited progress given the fact that all authorities involved have to utilise the migration level allocated for the year. Yes, as of 1 July, which is just yesterday, new migration program kicks in and the detailed planning has just been announced by the department. States and regional areas won’t open there migration scheme for the year until after weeks/months from 1 July. Everyone is still on standby including migration agents. We can’t even lodge anything on immiaccount because it’s under maintenance- we’re forced to pause. There’s a lot happening in the background not known to those who are not from the industry so to read those comments is also equally frustrating for any agent.

I can’t speak for your agent’s behaviour but could only just comment on your post. I understand how frustrating things are especially you’re paying them a service but also be mindful agents can’t do magic. The situation is beyond anyone’s control.

We’re all waiting and in time things will be much clearer.

Hehe I think the key should be honesty and clarity from day 1. Again, I can’t speak for your agent but for me since there are frequent updates/developments, I only update clients if I think is relevant to them.

We’re all anticipating what’s ahead - with open arms….after this dreadful 2 years we’ve had, things can only get better.

Will you be on a temporary work visa (sponsored by company) or may PR na kayo?

What kind of work is your husband doing at the moment? Architect at a mid- or executive level na ba sya (Project Architect/Team Leader)? Being registered as an architect in the PH doesn't really mean anything in Australia in the sense that he can't directly apply to architect roles or practice as an architect here unless he is registered in Australia (there are several pathways to get registered, just check out the AACA website). Similar to the PH, getting registered here is optional, as there are many jobs one can do without registration.

I think most migrants with architecture background would start out as architectural technicians / architectural draftsperson, interior designer (which is unregulated as they don't have board exam for ID here), or maybe even project management, and then progress to more senior roles as they gain more experience. If your husband has experience working with or managing Revit/ArchiCAD documentation, he can look into BIM technician / coordinator / manager roles (depending on his level of experience with BIM).

If asked whether to choose Brissy or Sydney, Sydney definitely has a lot more advertised and wider range of job opportunities but it can be competitive as the pool of applicants/candidates is also large. There's a lot more companies based in Sydney than Brisbane, especially the large and international design firms like Hassell, BVN, Cox, Gensler, Fender Katsalidis, etc. If that's where your husband wants to work, then better go to Sydney.

I can't really comment on the "chance" of getting work related to architecture, as that is really based on his profile/experience and what he wants to do career-wise.
