@heyits7me_mags, nag-aapply rin kayo ng IELTS diba? I think you'll be fine with just practicing with each other.

Sa nabasa ko kasi kanina online, my description sa bawat band score, so if my decimal nga naman what would be the description??? Like your score, description ba ng 8 or 9... Haitzzz...

A big LECHE FLAN for my IELTS scores especially in my Writing. After the 2 weeks of rigid training and a lot of expenses, I got only 6 in Writing....ni hindi man lang nag-qualify for university entrance sa Aussie. Ganoon ba ko kahina sa Writing???? After teaching TOFEL for 2 and been teaching business English to adults here in Indonesia? After practicing to write IELTS essays everyday using all the resources I got online and BC and the fact that my practice essays were checked by my British colleague. Haaaiittzz....Eto na yata ang obvious sign na hinihintay ko whether to pursue migrating to Australia. On the other side of my head, cguro Indonesian ang examiner and na-insecure sa akin kasi ako lang Pinoy dun sa batch??? Anyways, I plan to remark my Writing kahit magbayad ulit ako, at least kahit hindi tumuloy mag-apply for Aussie visa mabalik ko man lang confidence ko sa sarili ko. X_X

No, I'm talking about IELTS. Kasi ang Writing and Speaking subjective type of tests sila, di ba kaya yung band score 1-9 may description yan kagay ng rubric depending dun sa score na nakuha mo. I will post here the website nung nabasa ko.

Eto yung band descriptors for Writing Task 1 and 2 respectively.

    http://www.ielts.org/PDF/UOBDs_WritingT2.pdf

The site below is the band descriptor for Speaking but I doubt if it is officially from IELTS.

    - Task Response
    - coherence cohesion
    - Lexical Resource
    - Grammatical Range and Accuracy

So for example ang writing natin ay nagkaroon ng ganitong score...

Task Response = 9 (nasagot mo yung tanong, perfect kaya 9)
coherence cohesion = 7 (pede na)
Lexical Resource = 7 (pede na rin)
Grammatical Range and Accuracy = 5 (sablay ka sa grammar)

so kung icocompute natin yan ganito...

    (9+7+7+5)/4 = 7

Task Response = 9 (nasagot mo yung tanong, perfect kaya 9)

hope it helps and sana naliwanagan po kayo.... :)

I suggest po to use Whitesmoke software... it checks your grammar and grades your essay...
like you said, subjective ang writing so we will never know if your British colleague is grading your essay fair enough... suggestion ko lang naman po... you can PM me if you want a copy of the said software. :)

@gemini23, as mentioned by icebreaker and as stated in the link you posted may mga criteria po sa grading ng writing exam. It's possible that you did well on some areas pero nahila lang ang score niyo sa ibang area naman.

The assessment is subjective so you can always contest its marks -hence, getting the 7 instead of a 6 is possible.

Sure, I'm familiar with what you explained because this is what I do for scoring the Writing test of my Grade 2 students. Dito kasi sa Indonesia, yung mga international schools, as early as P1, IELTS style ang test nila sa English. My Speaking, Writing, Reading and Listening, so I know how to score Writing and Speaking using rubric and using criteria for judging na sinasabi mo. I just wonder about the Speaking, just like what I said, kung chineck mo yung pinost kong website, desciptions lang ang ginamit for each band score. Example:

    9 - Expert user
    8 - Very good user
    7 - Good user
    and etc.

I don't know if my ginamit din silang rubric or descriptors lang in assessing the Speaking test. Do you know the criteria for judging the Speaking test? I was looking for it in BC website pero wala akong nakita.

    http://www.teachingenglish.org.uk/articles/evaluating-speaking-ielts-speaking-test

    http://www.dcielts.com/ielts-speaking/band-scores-explained-2/

Four criteria rin gamit nila namely: Fluency/Coherence, Pronunciation, Lexical Resource at Grammatical Range & Accuracy.

    Hope this helps :)

I use pencil in all my writing, it doesn't matter if ballpen or pencil, what matters is the content po.

May rubric din silang ginagamit sa speaking...

    - Fluency and coherence
    - Lexical Resource
    - Grammatical range and accuracy
    - Pronunciation

check this url from british council...
    http://www.britishcouncil.org/srilanka-exams-ielts-descriptor-speaking.pdf

and the computation is the same with how I explained from above.

If you are really confident with your speaking and writing, you can have it remark just like what I did.

    cheers :)

Lapis din po ginamit ko. There are also external factors that could affect your scores...was your handwriting legible? were you able to speak clearly during the recording?

Anyway, we hope you will receive a positive outcome with the remarking :)

Hi everyone!

    2. Others- Ok lang bang ALL CAPS ung mga sagot sa listening at reading? or strict sila sa casing? Anu ba dapat gamitin sa writing, lapis o ballpen? May factor ba kung 'kabit-kabit' ung sulat mo or printed n lng kaya para mas madaling basahin?

Thank you po. Kaya natin to! *sigh hehe

Look at the brighter side na lang if magkahiwalay yung schedule ng Speaking from the rest of the test components. Gusto ko nga ng ganun kesa one day in all, nakaka-pressure masyado, then kung ma-migrane ka pa after ng written tests, do or die na lang mangyayari hehehe.

The examiner will tell you as when to stop sa preparation at sa 2 minutes speaking naman hindi naman basta basta kina-cut if di pa tapos sinasabi mo, ewan ko sa experience ng iba. Saka if undertime naman, i-aask ka naman if there's anything else that you would like to add or makikita mo sa facial expression ng examiner na parang hinihintay ka pang magsalita ulit.

Ang alam kong all block letters dun sa information na you need to fill up before the test. But of course sa written test like sa Reading and Listening you have to be conscious of your capitalisation, like for example sa fill in the blanks, minsan yung word nasa start ng sentence or kaya proper noun sya, so I think it matters. For writing, definitely you have to write with correct capitalization kasi may mga punctuations na dito and dito nila makikita how you construct sentences and paragraphs.

Well, according to my IELTS coach dapat ballpen gamitin but nung test day, I asked the proctor ok daw kahit ballpen or pencil. And I think may sumagot na dito sa thread na it doesn't matter whether you use pencil pr pen. In terms of handwriting style, I believe it doesn't matter too as long as it is legible and neat.

I hope I was able to answer all your questions. Good luck on your IELTS!

Hi everyone!

    2. Others- Ok lang bang ALL CAPS ung mga sagot sa listening at reading? or strict sila sa casing? Anu ba dapat gamitin sa writing, lapis o ballpen? May factor ba kung 'kabit-kabit' ung sulat mo or printed n lng kaya para mas madaling basahin?

Thank you po. Kaya natin to! *sigh hehe

Speaking - you don't need to worry about anything... the only thing you need to do is to keep on speaking and expressing your ideas and answer the questions given to you... sa 1 minute preparation may oras yun pero sila magsasabi kung tapos na ang 1 min mo... then sa 2 minutes you just keep on talking and talking unless you are told to stop... kung wala ka na masabi don't ever say "that's all"... that's all means, that's all the English language you knew...

kung wala na masabi think of other things to say na may kinalaman sa topic mo... kung ang tanong is what is your favorite food... e puros adobo lang alam mo at paborito mo, so napakasaglit na segundo lang tapos ang agad ang sasabihin mo, pede mo to dagdagan basta may kinalaman pa rin about food like... gusto mo rin ng desert na ganito ganyan... gusto mo rin yung mga exotic na food... gusto mo rin yung adobong manok, baboy, aso, pusa, daga etc... anything about food, wag ka lang lilihis sa topic...

ALL CAPS - well ang turo sa niners... ok lang ang all caps sa mga sagot sa listening at reading, may nabasa din ako somewhere sa internet na ang capitalization is not important sa listening at reading, hindi na DAW sila ganon ka strict... BUT for me, I didn't take the risk... kung capital dapat ang start ng word, capital ang gamit ko, pag small, small ang gamit ko... so my tip is kung alam mo ang tamang capitalization ng words... then do it... why take the risk... opinion ko lang naman po...

    hope it helps... goodluck!!!

Kasi nung nag-paregister ako for IELTS dito sa Jakarta, may kasamang pen sa mga pinadadala on the test date, so nalito tuloy ako kung saan gagamitin yung pen then I asked nga yung coach namin, sabi nya nga pen for writing. Saka bakit sa mga sample writing done by examinees sa mga review materials, may mga bura bura sila na for sure pen ang gamit kasi kung pencil e'di sana malinis yung essay.
    Just wondering about it....
