Hello to all,

First time ko po sa forum, referred po ito sa akin ng friend ko na paalis na papunta Australia. I am planning po to start my application anytime soon. For Accountants po, ano po ang suggested nyo na Assessing Authority para po sa mag pa assess ako? yung IELTS po ba na required for accountants is Academic?

Correct me if I am wrong po below is the step I have in mind:

1. Assessment with proper Assesing Body
2. Take IELTS Exam
3. Lodge an EOI

@kl_337 - hi welcome to the forum..

For accountants, IELTS (Academic) is a requirement by the assessing body..
so you should do that first...

hi @kl_337...accountant din ako dito sa pinas and just finished taking my medicals as instructed by my CO...
ang sa akin naman, I had my profession assessed first by CPA Australia...after ng assessment, I took the IELTS exam next...general ang kinuha ko..it won't matter kung IDP or British Council...and may cut-off kse akong 7.0 in EACH category (take note, EACH at HINDI TOTAL BAND SCORE) kse po i opt for the VISA 190 which is the State Sponsorship...I went for New South Wales Sponsorship and may cut off sila for accountants na 7.0 in ALL categories that is why I took the IELTS mga 4 times ata and appealed for the last time (kse objective sila and inconsistent sa writing and speaking)...kapag may nag-sponsor kseng state sayo, may additional kang 5 points...although sa VISA 189 ata is REGIONAL sponsored and that is 10 points additional...eh ang need ko lang naman to get a 60 passing point is 5 nalang kaya State Sponsorship ako...then yun...after IELTS, nag-apply ng State Sponsorship...then lodged EOI...then the rest is...eto na...

as far as i know, as of today. for CPAA, IELTS is a requirement.. and it should be Academic...

Hi Guys, welcome po! Your decision to be a member of this forum is the wisest you did for your Au migration. This forum will save you a lot of money in exchange for the slight inconvenience of going through the relevant topics here.

As my way of paying forward the goodness of those people who lent and continue to lend their knowledge here, I would like to share the following for those who have just started or are thinking of starting their application.

First, based on the new protocol, candidates are required to take their English Assessment Tests (IELTS; IDP;etc) prior to submitting their respective skills assessments to either CPA Australia, ICAA, or IPA. Kindly note that candidates should take the Academic option instead of General and the required band level for Accountants/External Auditors is at least 7 for all competencies.

Second, after receiving your results on English Assessment, the candidates should apply for skills assessment with any of the authorised assessing bodies (CPAA, ICAA, and IPA). Based on my personal experience, I would suggest candidates to have their skills assessed by ICAA since CPA Australia is quite particular about Accounting Theory. However, if one can afford to have their skills assessed by both Institutes concurrently then I think this can also be done. Kindly note here that CPA Australia might require you to complete Accounting Theory which costs about A$350. Moreover, your work experiences prior to your completion of Accounting Theory may not be counted when you claim for your points on work experience (anyone can refute my belief here). The good thing here is you can request for a review of your assessment free of charge if you received a negative result in your initial assessment. If your review result is still negative you can request for an assessment based on a new nominated ANZSCO (e.g. External Auditor) also free of charge.

Lastly, when you finally receive a positive assessment, proceed to lodge your EOI in Skillselect. I had an aggregate point of 60 (as External Auditor) when I lodged my EOI in Skillselect three days before the 22nd April invitation round and still managed to get an invitation to apply for a 189 visa.

P.S. Candidates should also read up on other forums or related websites (CPAA, ICAA, DIAC, etc) for additional information relating to your application that you may share other information you encounter to other forum members. Most importantly, pray, pray, and pray!

yes po...I had my assessment almost 4 years ago pa po...and valid pa po sya till now kse yung mga nagpa-assess before 2012 ata will be given 5 years validation sa kanilang assessment eh...although ngayon nga ata iba na...ang yes, IELTS GT po ang kinuha ko as advised by my agent...

Thank you po sa mga feedback.... syanga po pala does my wife need to take the ielts na rin po? I will include my wife na pag nag apply ako. She is an HRM Graduate pero matagal na cyang hindi nag employ. Academic din po ba kailangan nyang kunin? or General lang?

yes.. i think they changed some time June 2011 yata..
so luck you.. di pa kailangan ng academic ielts..

so there you go.. its clear now for accountants..
1. academic ielts 7.0 each band
2. then assessment..

if she is a college graduate, you can just show:
- college diploma/transcript
- english as medium of instruction from her college..

no need to take ielts, if you are not claiming partner's point..

Hmmm. Dyan pa nman din balak ko mag stay sa melbourne if ever matuloy kami ng family ko sa Australia. Grabe pla talaga competition jan lalo for Accountants.

Try nya kaya mag audit firm muna just to get some local experience. I remember months ago may nagmessage sa aking recruiter jan sa australia if gusto ko daw mag contract job sa isang audit firm (i think EY kasi prefer nya daw galing Ey) pero parang 3 months or something lang yta. Pero hindi ko kinagat kasi busy pa ako nun sa pag entertain ng canada apps ko and gusto ko long term sana and if meron daw ako marerefer. Hanapin ko nga sa yahoomail ko.

I have former collegue in my previous audit firm na inabot ng ilang months to get a job jan sa Melbourne. Nag work muna sya sa isang midsize firm jan (moore stephens melbourne) for 7 months then nagshift to accounting sa isang company tapos ngaun management accountant na. Yung husband nman nya is working in PWC melbourne.

Curious din ako sa style ng resume jan sa Australia. Napapansin ko may mga gumagamit ng achievement based style instead of parang functional type lang stating roles and responsibilities.

Goodluck sa inyo ng wife mo. Wala pa masyado pressure kakarating nyo plang din naman

yes, isang beses lang mag IELTS..
- what ever the requirement of the assessing body, yun na ang IELTS na gagamitin sa EOI..
- kung walang IELTS requirement ang assessing body, DIAC's requirement is General Test..

Ah. Ok yun kahit temporary lang muna. Malaking audit firm yan PWC. Ako malamang ganyan din muna gagawin ko hanggang makalipat sa isang established commercial company. Puro audit firms din kasi experiences ko and bago lang talaga ako nakalipat sa private.

Medyo tough din talaga competitions sa field namin kaya medyo tyaga2 talaga ng konti. Tapos patuloy nya lang yung CPA australia nya. Ako malamang mag CA-Australia ko jan pag natuloy.

@mark_y thanks much and wish you all the luck! i just a question nga pala...kasi I was assessed by NIA before and had a a favorable response. The membership is till 2016...5 years kasi ata yun....during that time, NIA is not requiring the IELTs kaya i was assessed w/o it.... but since IELTS is a requirement fro the VISA application, I ma required to take the exam, would you know if I can take general or academic? thanks:)

@staycool hi there po...same case po tayo..i had my assesssment from NIA before 2012 and got favorable response w/c is valid till 2016 ....but i still don't have the skills assessment by NIA which happens to be a requirement now for VISA application.. Ibig ba sabihin, if I will be submitting a skills assessment, I need to take academic instead of general study?

@vhoythoy - Yeah, my wife worked for 5yrs before sa PWC-Manila; so if ever babalik sya sa audit, at least it is a very familiar territory (systems, process, etc...)

Oo, in between applying, si misis nagbabasa na rin in preparation sa CPA professional papers which she will enrol probably this July... Natanggap na sya sa CPA Australia as an associate member so ayun... Mahal nga lang sya!! ahahaha...

Medyo parehas kami ng background. Ako nman 2 audit firms sa pinas tapos isa dito sa SG bale mga 8 years din lahat. Ngaun internal audit medyo relax sa commercial at the same time boring na rin minsan haha. Temporary lang din muna sa audit firm kasi nga nakakapagod din in a long run especially pag may family na.

Im very sure kayang kaya nya yan CpA australia. May ilan akong pinoy colleagues dati dito sa Singapore patapos na jan. Pwede kasi magtake dito sa Sg nyan pero mga 2 modules a year lang yata so mga 3 years to complete. Mukhang ok nman sila may distinction din yan pag mataas score mo. Yup, medyo mahal nga kaya pass muna ako until nanjan n ako tlga haha

Ako nman sana bumilis n sana time ng makalayas na sa SG
