Question mga Java peeps!

Java po ako and wondering if I should get certified before going to AU. May value ba yun dyan? I looked at job postings sa seek pero out of thousands of jobs relating to java, 1-2 lang ata ang may preference sa Java certified. So from there, I get the impression that it's not preferred. Pero anong say ng mga nakaranas ng job hunting? Bago ko sya pag-ukulan ng attention at money, survey muna!

As long as pasok ka sa description ng Job e Im sure there is no reason na inde ka matanggap ...not a java person pero it will be based on how you do on the interview ... sabi kasi sa akin ni wifey pag nag iinterview sila malalaman at malalaman ng nag iinterview kung meron kang alam or wala ... pero sa tingin ko go for it its a plus

Hello - makikicomment lang..sa tingin ko for IT professionals hindi naman kayo mahirapan makahanap ng work dito..ako kasi nagwwork ngayon as SAP Admin sa Procurement. Although project based lang sya, happy naman ako kasi sa isang malaking manufacturing firm dito sa Aus. I'm on spouse visa pala. I've been here for 3months palang. Hindi IT ang background ko, may experience lang ako sa SAP kaya siguro ako nakuha. Pero minsan feel ko swertihan or depende sa recruiter mo if massell ka nila sa clients nila. Sa mga nandito, ask ko lang how long it took for you to find a permanent job? parang rare sya dito sa brisbane hehe

@cchamyl ung first work ko dito sa melbourne, nakita ko lang sa seek. Nasa Sydney ako non nung nagphone interview at nagoffer sila. Sobrang urgent and desperate na sila. Contract lang sya til October this year.. Anong module hawak mo? Maraming FI and HR job opportunities.

Pero marami din sa ibang modules, napansin ko lang yan lagi ang may hinahanap. Actually SAP Basis din sobrang matunog dito.. hehehe

kaya lang may recruiter na tumawag, longer contract sa sydney.. mas malaki din rates.. hehehe So ayun nagresign ako dito sa melbourne kase nagoffer sila after skype interview.. Possible pala tlga na skype or phone interview lang, as long as urgent ang requirements and medyo specialised ung skill mo... although minsan ang disadvantage pag specialised, medyo konti opportunities.. pero once naman meron na, madali na lang cguro? babalik na kami sydney next week.. hehehe Ung dun naman, di ko alam pano nya nalaman details ko.. hehehe bka sa linkedin?

actually may mga nageemail pa rin sakin ngayon, nakita nila profile ko sa linkedin, pero focus muna ako ngayon sa inaccept kong job offer sa sydney.. hehehe tska di pa naman automatic offer na yun. heheehe may tumitingin din ng profile ko sa Seek at tinawagan pa ako. Tiningnan nya kase resume ko don.

Uso dito sa Au ang contractor roles kase pag IT.. pero syempre in the long run mas secure pa rin pag permanent...

Functional consultant din si hubby, 3yrs exp (5yrs exp from mfg comp, not related to current work although parehong quality-related ang function), R.ECE sya... ang tanong ko po is- pwede kaya sya sa ICT Business/Systems Analyst ang i-nominate nya na skill sa ACS? kahit 3yrs lang exp nya? we're thinking na baka ma-consider naman since relevant nmn yung experience nya (on-site support).

Hi po. Sa mga accountants, I have a question. I have a positive skills assessment from IPA, but my friend who is a CPA is Aus mentioned that it would have been better if I had CPAA assess my skills. Right now, I'm thinking of applying for skills assessment with CPAA even if I have to pay again, if it means it will give me better chances of landing a job close to my profession. I'm currently sending out online applications but getting rejections. I will be in Aus by the end of the month and praying na sana hindi aabutin ng 2014 before I get my first job. Hehe. Does anyone think I should go for that CPAA assessment? Would really appreciate your inputs! Thanks very much to all!

Err, it does not matter if you get a positive skills assessment from CPAA or IPA; you can however get yourself enrolled sa CPAA Program and work on getting a CPAA designation but this will take a few years pa.

Personal experience of my wife, she got her skills assessment sa CPAA and eventually became a an Associate Member; this did not do so much help in her application though.

@mariamorris, give yourself time when you arrive here... getting a job prior to arriving in australia is ideal but it seldom happens nowadays; my wife took 2 months plus before she got a contractual job.

the key challenge really right now is to work on a very good resume and cover letter/s when you submit application upon arrival here.

I'll look into it. Hindi ako IT pero may experience with SAP, do you think particular sila sa diploma/degree? Usually ba contractual ang offers dito sa aus? kasi pansin ko hindi ganon kadami ang permanent jobs ngayon. I have aussie friends who are still looking for jobs up to now. Some of my friends naman from NZ, nagttemp job for 2years or more na.

Si hubby ko SAP Basis. Pero wala pa kami jan sa Au. Simula ng nagsetup sya ng skype number last week marami na din tumatawag sa kanya pero more on 3-6 mos contract ung mga opening. We are looking sana on 1yr contract or perm. Pero once cguro na anjan na kami next year, he can accept short terms. Sana nga palarin tulad mo

@happywife23 hindi sila particular sa diploma/degree. Ang tinitingnan nila ung experience kaya dapat tailor fit tlga resume.

yeah medyo mahirap nga raw makahanap ngayon pero once naman you're in, marami na rin opportunities ang lalapit sayo.

Actually kung kelan nga ako nagkatrabaho, dun madaming nageemail and tumatawag skn... Nagbuild din ako relationship with recruiters kaya even across Perth, Melbourne and Sydney, may mga nagssulputan na job opps.

@jengrata yup puro contract nga pero sabi nila normally daw ganyan tlga naguumpisa mga trabaho dito.. mas malaki din rates pag contract kaya nga lang walang benefits and paid leaves. hehehe and syempre mas secure din daw pag full-time permanent bsta wag sila maglay off.. hehehee yes tama yan, wag muna maging mapili sa trabaho. ung una kong trabaho, 4 mos contract lang pero nagresign ako after 1.5 months kase may nagoffer skn ng 1 year+ contract for a 5-year project.. hehehh tapos ngayon meron ulit tumawag skn, full-time permanent pero dito sa melbourne.. sa sydney ung job offer na inaccept ko eh.. technically pde pa ako umatras dun pero ayoko naman ng ganon..hehehe nabook ko na rin flight ko eh and di pa namn job offer ung full-time job dito sa melbourne. Exp. And yes, open nmn tlga kami kahit sa short term contract once na anjan na kami. Anything is better than nothing. Initial way na rin to gain local experience. 9yrs exp na si hubby, may agent na nagadvice sa kanya ng range ng dapat nyang asking. Ang bait nga nung agent na yun eh. Tinuruan pa sya ng mga tips.

Initial plan is sya lang muna magwork until we figured out papaano ung toddler ko. Balita ko pa nmn mahaba ang queue sa mga child care. Pero pag nagustuhan ko maging HW, baka career-rin ko na. Hehehe. Although sayang din kasi additional income. IT din kasi ako.

Speaking of childcare, nakita ko sa timeline mo nakachildcare son mo. can you share your experience? Sorry OT na. Hehehe

if you have money I would encourage you to use proffesional service for writing your resume

Hindi ka naman nila pipilitin. based sa experience ko, maganda naman. I was invited to 2 client interviews when I started using it(end July).
Do note that a polished resume and cover letter will only get you first base and will not guarantee you employment. The rest(interview phase) still is up to you.
