May voucher na naman ang 9.0-Niner with Ensogo. P999 lang for 25-hour review session. I availed na din for me and my husband. Kahit kasi madami na akong na-download na materials for review, hindi ko mapagkatiwalaan ang husband ko na basahin lahat yun. Pag classroom set-up yun, for sure, mag-co-concentrate sya :D

BTW, we attended the free IELTS preparation sponsored by British Council yesterday at SMX. OK naman, madami ding tips na natutuhan. Sayang lang di kami nanalo sa raffle. They gave away 10 free IELTS exam :)

    Hi to everyone!

I have question regarding General Exam, based from IELTS website:
General Training – for school, work or migration
The General Training format focuses on basic survival skills in broad social and workplace contexts. It is typically for those who are going to English-speaking countries to do secondary education, work experience or training programs....

It should be noted that certain professions require an Academic test result for registration and migration purposes.

Paano malaman yung course na required ang Academic Test?

    Thank you in advance.

@rpspanilo you should check with the assessing authority...

example: Engineers Australia requires IELTS General Training...CPAA (for Accountants) requires Academic Test...

so the best thing is verify with your relevant assessing authority...

@ lock_code2004, thanks for the information. By the way, EA first needs the IELTS bago magpassess.

@LokiJr, more on students po talaga ang academic. Nasa group ako ng Electronics engineers, so IELTS would be General Exam.

Thank you for the replies. I have another concern, what comment/suggestion would you give between a review of IELTS in the British Council centre, and review from a private, English native-speaking teacher.

I have an assumption that it is cheaper on private tutorial than having a review at BC.

    Any ideas po?

    Thank you.

@rpspanilo - it really depends on your purpose:

    a) British Council - this review is to be familiar with the IELTS test process and structure.. plus of course tips on how to answer the questions
    b) If you want to improve vocabulary, speaking skills.. then an English-native speaker is most helpful...

@rpspanilo : depende...maganda po ba yung "private, English native-speaking teacher"? hehehe

kidding aside, in my opinion, mas maganda siguro kung sa BC na lang kasi hindi lang English skills ang maituturo dun kundi pati na din techniques for the IELTS exam. :)

    @olrac183 hi there...for speaking tips:
    1. remember "ARES" when attacking the question for impromptu speaking. A-nswer, R-eason, E-xamples and S-ummary. This acronym is to guide the speaker on what to say at the moment he is asked. To further explain this, after the question is given, GIVE YOUR ANSWER RIGHT A WAY WHETHER IT IS A 'YES or NO" for yes-no questions, AGREE or DISAGREE if the question requires you to be on a side or GIVE A SHORT STRAIGHT ANSWER to the question for WH-/H Question (e.g. What is your hobby?). Meaning to say, wag ng pa-ikot2x sa sagot, answer straight to the point agad. The next idea to say after u have given the answer is, give your REASON/S WHY U SAID SO or SUPPORT WITH REASONS WHY U CHOOSE THAT ANSWER. Thirdly, to further illustrate, GIVE EXAMPLES maybe of people who have the same experience, maybe of advantage and disadvantages and maybe of the possibilities and the last one, SUMMARY in the end of ur answer. Summarize your point by REWORDING your answer in the beginning plus include ur suggestion, recommendation or ur GENERAL PRINCIPLE behind your answer. For sure, this style of answering the question will take u to around 2 minutes as IELTS requires us to speak, correct me if i am wrong. And there's even up to 5 minutes.
    2. for accent purposes, try to RISE AND FALL UR VOICE properly...thats what we call the INTONATION... include expressions "u know" or " like [ I feel LIKE..., it was LIKE..., ]" but dont overuse them to the extent of being obvious. These are expressions that normally require us to reflect, think of the most appropriate response.
    3. When practising, face a mirror. Study how u look like when u speak. From this, u'll be able to realize and see how much confidence to add up, how to be natural-looking without any sign of discomfort and uneasiness. Then smile if the statement to say is something positive or interesting. Look at the eyes of your listener (once in a while if u cant carry out this all time) to make a connection of your communication.

These are my personal experiences that are supported with theories. And its true. And now, I can say that I am a good English speaker. Here abroad as a teacher, people would ask me if I have ever studied in western countries. Others would say after knowing that I am not coming from an English speaking country (though in the Phils, English has become the official language) that if they would just listen to me over the phone (without seeing my skin color and profile), they suspect me as someone who is American. :D

Just give a try:D Who knows it will work on u :D

    Hi Po,

Ang IELTS Remarking po ba eh same as retaking the whole exam? or Specific lang po kung san ka mababa?

    Thanks.
Remarking is like rechecking your scores specifically for Speaking and Writing sections as these were verified subjectively by the examiner. On the other hand, Reading and Listening were verified objectively so it's not advisable to be remark. When you apply for remarking you can choose which exam type you want to be remark, you can pick at least one. Hope this answers your query :)

    Killerbee thanks for sharing.

So, Speaking and Writing lang ang may possibility ng remarking kung eto ay mababa.

Kung Reading and Listening ang mababa, then mas advisable to retake the exam.

My wife is planning to retake hoping that we can have a chance to take the maximum points. Previously she took the Academic Module (more difficult in reading and writing) as this is the requirement for Accountancy Skills Assessment. Thank God she met naman the score requirement.

If and when she will retake, she will take the General...

    Now my question is:

    (1) Okey lang ba different and ibibigay na Exam Results? i.e. Academic Module sa assessing body and eventually (and hopefully) sa DIAC yung General Module - assuming of course she can improve her score a bit and get the maximum points?

    (2) It doesn't mean naman cguro diba na if you took another exam ma nullify or not usable na ang previous records mo - i.e. in our case, valid pa naman cguro yung 1st diba?

    Appreciate any insights! :)

    Thanks
