naungusan pa ng australia ang canada na maraming pilipino din doon....well according sa mga filipino na nkakausap ko na citizen na dito pag tanda nila they will still come back to the phil...personally i'm still believe na mag bago pa rin ang pinas basta tayong mga pilipino may desiplina pa rin sa sarili pag bawal bawal talaga kaya we have to tell to our relatives na don't break the law and ipag yayabang pa..sa korea nga the reason why asensado sila kasi yung deciplinado sila at yung history ng bansa nila ay from rags to riches at ang ibang overseas worker nila ay umuwi din at nag invest sa country kaya dumami ang work ..kaya tayong filipino whether we like it or not we have a moral obligation na tulungan ang bansa natin in a way that we can...tama na yung blame dito blame doon...i remember sa isang tv show sa pinas ang sabi doon, kung lahat ng may kaya sa pilipinas especially yung mga ofw ay mag sponsor ng isang batang pinoy para mkapag aral wala na cguro tayong makikitang pilipino bata na plaboy laboy sa kalye...but sadly to say..marami kaagad ang kokontra kisyo goverment ang may responsible daw o etc etc..hayyyy....sabi nga ni churchill....dont wait the country will change for you instead you have to change for your country....kaya mga kababayan......wag kalimutan tulungan natin ang lupang sinilangan natin....sabi nga ni joyce myer....Be a praiser don't be a complainer....and remeber the keyworld...tulungan ang bansa natin......para umasenso rin....

1. a HUGE part of her salary is sent home to help her parents...kasi they are old and have no work.
2. she is paying for her sibling's kids to school..specially college.. there are in my memory 3 in college.. a couple more in high school or elementary. we asked her why is she paying for her nieces/ nephews ? what are their parents doing? .. her brother is unemployed if she ask him to get a job he will say it's hard to find a job sa pinas. yung wife at least may work pero sa atin kahit call center agent..buhay mayaman and their kids' education are paid by my friend. another sibling has kids but no husband... kid is in grade school na and my friend is paying for the education of this one and this sibling is also studying nursing paid for by my friend also
3. she is also paying to build/repair her parents' home.
we can't even count how many people she is sending to school.. sometimes at work, she cries in the tea room thinking about her situation kasi she wants to go home for a visit pero gipit sya sa funds.
there's a saying that goes na, "HINDI KASI NASA ABROAD NA..MAYAMAN NA".
then she got married and had a child, her husband is forbidding her to send money na kasi yung hubby nya hindi pilipino..pero in fairness to her husband he is right naman. she has spent almost 5 years sending money home.. minimal savings. the first time she asked for a bank loan for a car she got denied kasi the bank said majority of her salary is going out of the country.
they are paying for mortgage for their house. they have to think of their own family too.
yung anak nila nagka cancer at 1 year old.. and that's the only time my friend has actually stopped sending money home and firmly told her siblings that they have to find a way to support their own family. she still pays for her parents.
but there should be boundaries to kindness and generosity.
it is a good ideal..pero very hard to practice po yan specially once you start having a family of your own. you have your own bills to pay and have a future to secure.
hindi dahil nasa abroad na.. may overflow of pera. you will actually find that what you will earn here in australia is almost JUST enough for your own family.

Dun sa disiplina, ilang ulit nang binanggit ng mga leaders sa singapore, south korea at china na hindi tayo takot sa batas kaya hindi tayo umaayos. Kelangan may pangil batas natin. Hindi yung pag nahuli yung tao, tatakbo sa commission on human rights or sa simbahan tapos absuwelto na

And di ba according to a study we are the most emotional country. It's funny because some filipinos think that is actually a positive thing, well... at some aspects yes, pero majority of us filipinos tend to use our emotions to come up with a decision that will affect our lives, tulad na lang sa pagboto. And then isa pa yung problema with the catholic church na mahilig makialam sa affairs of the state. Nakaka-stress isipin mga problema ng bansa natin kaya hindi mo din masisisi yung mga pinoy na ayaw na ulit tumira sa pinas, me included.

whereas some relatives sa pinas who are older, college graduates are deliberately NOT working once they have an ate/ kuya working abroad and will just wait for "allowance"!
so bakit australia is a progressive country when it does not have a strong OFW culture?
i don't believe OFW remittance ang pag-asa ng pinas.. most pinoys who go out of pinas specially in a western country will not actually go back until in their 60s or 70s..and even then they will not stay for good kasi yung pensions nila will be halved if they do not stay in let's say the US.
and most OFWs who work in countries like the middle east only have a shelf life of 10 - 15 years MAX and they will then find a hard time finding work in that countries cause of age and other factors.. then what happens to them when they go back sa pinas? are they assured of a good life back home? do you think they have enough savings if let's say they have been providing to all their other "relatives" while working as an OFW?
there was a really good series done by ANC.. it's a pinoy channel if you are familiar with it about OFWs who go back sa pinas after working as construction workers/hotel workers, helpers and etc. after 10-15 years... and sad to say, not everyone of them had a happy ending in their old age.
change should start within the philippines but the problem with that again is that the smart people in the philippines will always often find a way to leave the country. the middle class and the rich who actually have the capacity to change much of our governance also do not stay in the philippines or are too rich to be affected by most of the problems by the majority.
so what about the masa? eh ang masa naman.. good enough lang mag rally pero walang follow up. they are not educated enough or even if educated..not powerful enough to be heard.
do i believe there is hope in the philippines.. ?
if you can be rich enough then yes..
pero if you belong to the masa.. mahirap po. honestly speaking.
if middle class? .. best chance of a comfy life is to get out of the philippines.

Daming mali sa kultura natin, but I would start with the wrong thinking of some Filipinos where they make as many children as possible in hopes that one will turn out great and then he/she will help out the rest. Diyan nagsisimula yung palamunin mentality hehe.
So besides the multi-cultural community, better pay, better economy, safer community, cleaner environment that Australia has over the Philippines. Gusto ko rin yung tinuturo nila sa mga bata sa Australia na sabi ni @li_i_ren --independence and entrepreneurship

@li_i_ren Agree. Being an OFW is a never-ending state. Kung napanuod nyo yung movie ni Jinggoy (LOL), umuwi sya sa Pinas hoping na may ipon sila etc., only to find out na mahabang bayarin pa yung mortgage sa bagong bahay nila and tuition ng mga anak nya. Ang ending, balik sa Saudi si loko. There can't be any truer ending to that story.

Ang problema hindi lahat ng tao sa bansa e willing tulungan ang sarili, may iba naman na kapag tinulungan mo umaasa na lang sayo...So parang ang morale..we can't help everybody, merong iilan talagang wala nang pag-asa, so make the most of it and help as many as you can

but what i was trying to say is that there should be a limit to how much generosity and kindness one can give to one's family and even countryman.
it is good to help and be generous pero may limit po.
kasi sa next post nga you have said na you yourself do not ask from your siblings and your nieces/nephews are taught the value of a dollar.
you said that i shouldn't generalize things.. and i didn't. but it also means you can not generalize your own experience as what is the experience of others also in which that statement i quoted above is.. a generalization that if every ofw helps a child then no child will become a street urchin.
actually my argument was correlated to a story by my friend and a series done by ANC about filipino ofws in the middle east. it is more of a norm that relatives / countrymen (neighbors) will ask and expect to be given than to not ask nor expect something.
based on research po yan na ang shelf life ng ofw is only 10-15 years and those that come from specially in saudi kasi their data used was from 90s- to early 2000s, some had to go back even when they taught na retiring time na kasi they have not saved enough and they felt morally obligated to help their relatives (which could include grandchildren).
also it tackled the problem why ofws didn't go back sa pinas.. depende po yan kung saan country umalis si ofw. the ones in the middle east go back and they start businesses pero the problem is it's only small scale businesses like taxis/ boarding house and etc.
whereas those that come from america, actually become citizens of america and invest their money in america instead of the philippines.. why is that?
(same po yan to those in australia..specially the ones na matagal na dito so di ba pa tayo included dyan:P)
it has shown that after living in the states, though they love going home sa pinas for vacations, once they are old enough to invest.. they don't see the point of investing in the philippines where no one can manage their investments as most of their immediate family will also be in the states.
(may issue din po that the relatives left behind mishandled their finances).
when they are old enough to retire, they go sa pinas for half a year and half in the states while others do not go home at all for several reasons like, they have no immediate family to look after them.
those who have enough money would have been able to get all their families to the states too and to those that go home later find out some of their friends have died or have moved out of their home towns thus it doesn't make sense anymore to grow old in the philippines when they do not have friends or family that they know.
im not sure how long you have been out of the country sheep.. but i have not been "home" for the last 4 years except for vacations. you will always meet those oldies that say they will go home and invest in the philippines etc but they never do.
they are not used to the weather anymore, not used to the traffic, they don't know where their friends are / some of their cousins/ siblings have died or have become old and moved.. these nephews and nieces looking after them..they have never met them before.
they always end up not going home and staying put in their new home country.
you said we are morally obligated to help the philippines... but after 10 years in australia or something.. your home country will become australia. your moral obligation will be shifted.
my cousins are all in the states...they love to go home sa pinas but do they feel morally obligated to help our countrymen or meddle in the politics?
(i have relatives who were mayors and ambassadors in the 70s but left during the marcos era).
they would have loved to have served again but after living in the states too long..they don't know anything about philippine politics anymore and are more invested morally and financially to their new home country which is america.
the philippines will be your home.. but if you don't live there long enough, you start to look at it through rose colored glass and you won't be able to relate what is the reality to what it is that you remember.
hence this is my answer to your statement about moral obligation.
so haba ng speech mo sa taas...let me ask you this, "do you have a concrete plan on how to help the philippines? "
kasi i have an answer to that..this is my personal answer only, i am helping the philippines by staying away from the philippines and working abroad. this way i can go home for vacations and spend money to go shopping, stay in hotels and see the beauty that is the philippines. this way i help the philippine economy by spending my hard earned dollar in my country.
would i invest in the philippines later on?
yes, i will build a house later on where i can stay on vacation.
would i build a business? no because i will not be familiar anymore about the laws and i would not be able to manage it.
why not let a relative manage it?
because the cousin i knew as a child/ young adult may not be the same person anymore.
would i send a child to school if i knew one? yes definitely.
would i meddle in government?
no.. as having stayed long enough away from the philippines i actually just know the president's name but i have no idea on his platforms to make informed decisions.
why do i not know enough? am i not morally obligated to know?
no, because i do not live there in the philippines..i am more interested in what policies julia gillard and the labor/ national party have that will affect me as a new migrant to this country..because i am invested in australia because it is my source of income and new home.
http://www.gmanetwork.com/news/story/270315/pinoyabroad/pinoyachievers/pinay-caregiver-in-canada-writes-book-about-lives-of-ofws
marami pa po yan..pero i can't find all of them and post them here. very good resource po to watch on those days na walang magawa:)

2nd.
di ko po ibig sabihin na all filipino are morally oblige to help our country...eh kung sa sarili mo mabuting ang pera mo sa yo lang mapupunta eh nobody prevent you to do that...
3rd...
if i lived 10 0r more years...i am no longer interested in the philippines kasi my moral obligation will be shifted to my new home country...? well siguro ikaw...but for me i am still much interested to know how my country before will be able to survived and sustain the problems that plagued my country...and kasi ako poy naniniwala na kung wala po ang pilipinas wala din po ako dito sa australya..
4th....
you have friends relatives na sa us na or abroad at di na interesadong umuwi dahil hindi na alam ang situation sa pilipinas....ang sagot ko po dyan ay katulad po ni cito beltran na sabi niya sa show na kailangang magbakasyon ang mga ofw sa pilipinas para malaman ang nangyayari sa pinas at still reconnected pa sa mga relatives..kasi pag ang ofw umuwi s apinas after 20 or 30 yrs eh...wala na ho kayong babalikan dahil yung kmag anak ninyo baka namatay na po ang iba,at ang iba lumipat na sa ibang lugar or in tagalog WAG MAGING DAYUHAN SA SARILING BANSA...
5th..
it's true po na may mga ofw na umuwi at naghirap dahil hindi namanaged ng maganda ang personal finance nila....pero may roon ka rin bang alam na mga ofw na naging financially secured sila at naging maganda ang bauhay nila dahil sa saudi..kung wala manood ka ng show ni francisco colayco para hindi puro isang side lang ang alam mo...at....sinabi mo na lahat ng ofw galing saudi halos small scale po ang business katulad ng boarding haus or taxi....Again are you sure..? don't be one sided to give justification with your arguments....eh alam mo ba na mayroon ding mga ofw na galing saudi na umuwi at nagbusiness at umasenso at nakapag bigay ng trabaho sa mga kababayan natin...WALA DI BAH..then i suggest manood ka ng kabuhayang swak na swak ni amy perez sa abs cbn maraming rin pong kwento doon na galing sa mga ofw na umasenso rin i'm sure marami ka ring mapupulutan ng aral doon...
Personal finances is a different field in which we cannot get in university nor in the pub house it's not a rocket science....when we decide to be financially litirate (mali yata spelling ko...nag huhung na kasi laptop ko)((patuloy tayo)))) it involves determination, inspiration and perseverance..(parang manny villar yan,,im sure di mo rin yan kilala..never mind that....)ang issues regarding mis management sa finance ay di rin po nangyayari sa ofw kahit sa pilipinas na hindi ofw ang family ay nangyayari din sa pamamagitan ng nagiging priority nila ang WANTS kaysa sa NEEDS...
ask me if i have a congcrete plan to help my counrty eh wala na po sa plano..ginagawa ko na po kaya lang pohh...di po ako pulitiko na kailangan iannounce ang ginagawa ko kahit maliit lang ang ginagawa ko at least nakaumpisa na po ako...i am not part of the problem but rather a part of the solution
f I will be leaving 20 to 30 yrs dito sa australia or sa switzerland bah..i am still even very excited to know kung ano ang nangyayari sa bansang pinanggalingan ko because my heart belongs to the philippines and and I am still naturalized filipino and no amount of materials things can change my character and beliefs as a Filipino sabi nga nila saan ka ba nakakita ng bansa na in every corner there is a basketball court ...sa pilipinas lang....at mga naggagandahang mga sasakyan at mga babae at mga bumubusinang sasakyan..(im sure di mo na natatandaan iyan kasi wala kna s apilipinas...awit po yan)
nonetheless, instead of blaming or just like the press/media style that only bad things happen in one country will be put in front page while the good things happen will be only put at the back pages with small letters then we should ask our self I am helping the country or helping them to pull down...
