To add to this, iba rin kasi ang mindset ng dumarating dito na naka Student visa dun sa dumarating na may Skilled visa.
Kapag Student visa alam nila na limited work hours & kailangan magbayad ng tuition on top of living expenses kaya pagdating dito apply na kaagad for cleaning, housekeeping, retail & hospitality jobs. Dito sa Adelaide napansin ko mas open din sila to ask for secondhand things. Naghihingi ng used winter clothes, boots, appliances & furniture para may magamit without breaking the budget.
Whereas pag Skilled visa napansin ko na ang preference is to get a job na aligned sa skills & experience. So time is spent looking for these jobs & applying for them.

I guess ipon2 nalang muna, at least 3 months na worth of savings for food, rent, transpo, etc.. At kung kakapusin man, dun na ata tlaga yung panahon na mag apply ng kahit anung trabaho, bago maka land ng line of work natin.

Once you have lodged, you have 1 year to recoop the visa expenses and prepare for the BM. Good to focus on applying jobs in line with your experience so that you can get employed ASAP rather than focusing on surviving on the first 3 months kasi di enough yung pera.

For sure, they'll note you. It's not good etiquette in general na wala kang pasabi and it also speaks din kasi sa work ethic mo. In my case, sila yung nagcancel last minute (tomorrow dapat interview ko). In those cases, maintain good correspondence kahit deep inside galit (joke lang naman). Hahaha.

Salamat

Rentals are usually unfurnished. Bihira ang semi or fully furnished because most people tend to have their own furniture that they bring with them when they move houses.
You can get affordable starter furniture from Kmart. Ikea is a bit more expensive pero pwede na rin, pero ikaw mag-assemble ng furniture. You can also check the Pinoy AU group, Marketplace, and the Pay Nothing FB group in your suburb or council area for people who are selling or giving away their furniture. Pag secondhand you will have to arrange for transport yourself.
Reverse cycle is similar to the split type aircon sa atin, pero it has heating and cooling. Pag maliit lang yung bahay, usually isa lang yan and nasa common area. If the house is a bit bigger, pwedeng may isa sa common area and isa sa masters bedroom. Pag ducted heating and cooling usually may ducts sa common areas and in each bedroom. People don't usually keep the heating on all the time because heating is more expensive than cooling. Pag dumilim na, make sure all your curtains and shades are drawn para wag lumabas ang heat. You can also look at flannel pambahays and sleepwear, as well as flannelette bedsheets para di gaano ginawin. Check nyo rin yung Oodie, madalas may sale sila. Nakakatawa tignan pero mainit yan and works really well during winter.
Malamig na malamig ang winter sa SA so be well prepared in terms of clothing.

I'm not familiar with the requirements for 491 kasi 489 yung visa ko nung dumating ako. Yung requirement dati for 489 was one year of full time work.

Pwede full time or part time. Ang requirement is as long as you show 3 tax statements, you can apply for 191.

Hello guys!!!

Any tips po to survive the job seeking process? Medyo overwhelming pala to lalo na kung walang network at sariling sikap. Too early pa kaya to opt for survival jobs?

Bro good luck sa paghahanap mo ng work? Sa ACT ka ba nag start? While applying for the EOI / VISA 190, ang madami works sa construction is NSW and VIC.

I feel your pain. Kapit lang.
It took about 8 months to get my first job when I started. This was in 2020, Covid era, was stressful and challenging. I applied to every job possible, from cleaners, factory workers etc, was nearly considered for a job in a chicken factory (didn't get it as I don't have a car back then). There is nothing wrong with odd jobs to be honest, it pays the bill. Keep applying, update your CV to Australian format, keep reaching out to recruiters.
IMO, the points assessment are purely for immigration purposes. They have nothing to do with the actual jobs. So there, temper your expectations and keep on applying.

Husband is a Sr Software Developer, target namin is Melb. Sending applications thru Seek, Indeed, LinkedIn, Hays, Jora.

Share ko lang experience namin before moving, back in Nov 2023. Nag start ako mag hanap agad agad nung makuha namin yung grant Apr 2023. Had a couple with good progress here and there but in the end hindi ako yung nakukuha (different story; not really coz I was still offshore). Pero generally, mahirap talaga sya pag offshore even when having a visa grant at hand. Most of the time, automatically rejected ako, sa dami ng inapplyan ko dahil yun nga, mostly coz I was still offshore. Other times, iba lang rin talaga hinahanap nila.
I noticed getting real and more responses was when I added our move date in my CV. I guess dun lang nagka interes yung mga companies sakin since they are sure that I will be onshore starting on a specific date.
Kung kaya nyo nang mag move with all things considered most especially in the money department (initial budget), start arranging for that as early as you can. But, kung hindi pa talaga kaya, try and try lang sa paghanap. Applicable also when you are already onshore. It will come - inline man with your chosen profession or not. Just trust the process. Sounds cliche and overused already, but it is what it is.
Wish you all the best!

Your husband can try a few more tips (if not considered yet) which helped a few of my new migrant friends land their first job in au:-
If applicant is in senior position or supervisory position on previous jobs, try apply for a position that is lower. Madalas kasi, kung ano yung most recent position na na-achieve eh yun yung inaapplyan na position in AU. The problem with that is you have no local experience. Even if you are confident that you are capable for the position, there will be other applicants applying for the same position that have local experience. Kaya pansamantala, downgrade muna until you get a relevant job then after the probation period you can re-negotiate on your compensation as long as you have proven yourself more than capable.
Include a cover letter in your application. Nothing too fancy. Marami sample online =P
While waiting for employers/agents to contact you, and you are tight on budget, try to apply for a temporary job that is not realated to your line of work. This will help pay bills temporarily while waiting to get into the job that you want. Kung yayamanin ka, you might not need to do so. Apply lang ng apply! may tatawag din
Me, 8yrs ago, I gave myself a month to look for a job that is in line with my work back in Ph. I decided to work any other job temporarily kesyo barista, wait staff, cleaner, etc. pa yan papatusin ko kung hindi ako naka kuha ng trabaho na gusto ko. With prayers, 2-3 days before 1 month, may tumawag na agent informing me of an opportunity and soon after an interview. The rest is history

Goodluck and god bless po.
