Good luck..

I've always loved Singapore and Australia...am not sure though ano lamang ng Australia...is it just the "flora & fauna" and the family culture?

@LokiJr very true! ...actually kahit mga locals dito sa Singapore madami din na mas pinipili mag-migrate sa Australia, given the job opportunity... siguro dahil na din sa education, lifestyle & culture. :)

@mimaahk, land surveyor ako sa singapore. pero may job experience ako as a GIS analyst, puwede rin third stringer point guard sa inter-brgy (hahaha joke!)

siguro pinakamalaking factor why people working/living in singapore want to migrate to australia is yung laid-back culture dyan. work-life balance ba. marami akong family members na nasa melbourne and my titas would always say na less hectic at stressful ang buhay sa australia compared sa singapore. and the pay doesn't suck too. (^_^))..

ps -- just to bring up the positive things in singapore. a very cosmopolitan city, kung gimikero ka.. pa-umagahan ang mga bars and beach parties sa sentosa and clark quay. kung addict ka sa shopping, halos bi-monthly eh may sale somewhere. the much-awaited IT sale is like 4 times a year. very safe and very disciplined group of people. sobrang masunurin sa batas trapiko. crime rate is almost nil (bored na bored ang mga pulis dito). the city is hi-tech and very wired. free-wifi almost anywhere (1 out of 10 singaporean owns an iphone) kahit si auntie na tindera ng isda sa wet market eh naka-iphone4S LOL!. the transport system is one of the best in the world. it's easy to use, fast and efficient.

@LokiJr what's nice about the weather is it keeps on changing... which is somewhat good because di ka masi sick & tired.. pag summer umaabot ng 40 pero ilang oras lang naman lalamig na naman ng 20 sa gabi so ok lang.. sa winter naman lumalamig din ng almost zero pero wala naman snow sa mababang lugar. Di mo sasabihing i'm sick and tired of this weather..

Ang nagustuhan ko sa Australia (correct me if I'm wrong) 3-4 months lang yung kainitan, the rest of the year malamig lamig na?

Hi, noob lang and my first post. Here's my opinion kung bakit Aus:
    Australia pros
    1. Employment - in my opinion madaling makahanap ng trabaho (generally) and mas malaki ang minimum compare to canada. And most of all, skillset and experience naka match sa trabaho mu (no need aussie exp.)
    2. Mura ang white goods (electronics, computer, etc.) pwde mu pang tawaran.
    3. Madaling bumili ng gold bars/bullion gold coins or silver bars/bullion/coins for investment. You can sell it here in Aus pero maliit lang ang profit. ang advise sa akin is to sell outside Aus.
    4. Laid back ang trabaho at ang environment. work life balance. relax life style.
Mura pamasahe mag travel interstate brisbane, melbourne, sydney.
    6. Weather is great parang pinas minus humidity. Winter kahit light jacket lang. Summer, maraming naka mini skirt.
    7. Malapit sa pinas, may direct flight ang qantas from darwin to naia 8hrs lng.

    Australia cons
    1. Sobrang taas ng cost of living. $100/week budget grocery sa woollies or coles.
    2. prices of property are ridiculously expensive.
    3. Madaming lasengo dito. Kahit nga mga meeting sa tanghali or hapon nag-seserve sila ng alak or beer. Well, sa mga mganginginom ok dito.
    4. Security is not so much safe - uso mga scams, mga lasengo dito nanggugulo, vandalism pero mas safe compared sa pinas.
Magastos magkasakit. You need to apply for private health insurance tapos limited din ang benefits (hindi ito optional, required ito pag wla kang private health i-tatax ka ng govt.)
    6. Mataas ang tax, tapos meron pang bagong carbon tax na i-implement starting next financial year, lalo pang tataas ang cost of living.
Well, it better pa rin compare sa pinas.
9.Right hand drive, left side of the road.

    Hmm cons outnumbered pros.

Dun lang po sa medicare... the reason why it's covered up to 75% of the amount only is because Australian residents are required to purchase private health insurance, which should cover the remaining 25%. To enforce that to all Aussies, they are taxed more if they do not buy their own insurance :)

ahh that explains it. :-) tnx @LokiJr.
by the way, question lng. lets say a couple is earning around 1.1M annual each. tapos ung isa under the 15% tax. and ung isa din merong retirement na 6%. and apart from these, may bonus na 10-14 % ng annual salary every year. may anak sila na isa pero baby pa lng. should they still consider leaving the phils for AU? :-) both are IT consultants and are up for promotion... napaka-hypothetical ng example. hehehe

@stolich18 ikaw ba to? haha...andaming variables parang math problem! hehe...

To make an appropriate comparison between two options, compute for their combined after-tax income. May salary ka kasi...then may retirement...then may bonus pa kamo. Each component will be taxed differently...so compute for the after tax sum of that first.

Next step would be to look at seek.com.au and check for the average salaries of their respective jobs...then do the same...compute for their after tax income.

some questions like, do you want your family and your child/ren to grow up in the philippines...
which country do you think can give them a better future (in terms of security, health, education, climate)?..

kung sweldo lang ang usapan, i will not leave my current job/country... but looking at wider perspective.. i decided to make an effort to choose australia..

well, i have not been to australia, but i'm taking chances for my family's future..

Tama kayo sir. You'll never know what is better until you give it a try. Each and one of us has their reasons why we opt to migrate to Oz. We just have to weigh our options first before making the move. :)

Thank you @LokiJr and @lock_code2004 for the advices. Really appreciate them. I guess what makes it harder is the fact that we're taking a leap of faith if ever we are granted a visa. But thanks for explaining it from a wider perspective. My husband and I was reminded that it's really the future of our baby/future kids that we must put first before our own needs/wants, even if life here in the Phils. is already comfortable or we've already established our own careers. No one knows the future so we need to trust God more when making decisions. Thanks! :-)

^ Medicare is 1.5% of your annual gross salary...cheap price to pay if you ask me :)

@stolich18, kung may ari-arian na kayo, may Php2.2M combined salary kayo...I won't leave the Philippines...at that kind of earning, buhay na buhay na kayo niyan :)

@stolich18 sa mga nabasa ko sa ibang forums & according to some of my friends na nasa OZ na high standard of education sa Australia kahit public school, ang difference lang daw is pag sa private sobrang mahal ng tuition. Ang advice nya sakin kung matutuloy man kami ng OZ is public school nalang primary & secondary para dagdag ipon din yung matitipid & prepare well for university kasi mahal talaga tuition fee sa college. :)

Parang expect around 20K AUD per year at the minimum. Kahit sa US super mahal.

Nagkwento sila about schools there na wala raw exam ang mga bata until 15 years old na ata sila. Same din daw sa Finland. better daw yun to encourage the child to become more curious and have the love for learning. :-)
