Hi, Maagtatanong po sana ko kung magkano yung dapat na dalang pocket money ko per month if I'm Planning to move in sydney. and pang ilang months yung dapat na dala ko if wala pa akong work pagpunta. I'm a draftsman by profession and Single, I'm planning to rent a room near mrt so hindi na kailangan bumili agad ng car. OK na po ba yung $10K? around $1.5k per month good for 6 months. willing naman ako na mag part time job. and lastly madali po ba maghanap ng part time job? di naman ako maarte kahit anu basta decent yung job ok na. salamat in advance :)

Assuming rent is at $180 per week (normally bedspace lang to), $720 per month na.

Kung $1500 budget, kaya naman. basta super tipid, kasi may transpo costs ka pa and siyempre food. kung $1k lang, parang malabo. In Sydney.

Depende rin po sa lugar. nung kami ng partner ko nag flatshare, sa Burwood, master bedroom with ensuite is around $350 per week inclusive of utilities na.

Sa food, kung kaya niyo magluto, kaya niyo pagkasyahin ang $400-500 per month basta you know where to buy. Basta pure luto at walang kain sa labas.

Sa transpo, pagpalagay natin na around $10 per day work to home for 5 days. so $100 per week ang couple. Ibig sabihin nito, pag weekends, hindi ka rin lalabas.

So total is $2200. Since may $4k a month ka, maluwag luwag and marami kang pera for miscellaneous (ie. weekend trips).

@athelene your budget will depend on where you will be staying. $180/wk rent for a room, I think, is feasible at western suburbs or other suburbs far from the CBD.

Just to give you an idea, my wife, when she stayed solo at northern beaches, rented a room at a rate of 220/wk including utilities (water, elec, gas, excl. internet). The room was big roughly 4mx4m plus a balcony. So $180/week is possible for a room.

Going back to your query, $1000 per month might not be enough I reckon. Unless, you're going to be on canned goods and instant noodles =/ (better not). $1500 will do but still tight. Say for a month you have 4.3weeks so $180x4.3wks=$774, transpo $15.40/day (this is the max amount that can be deducted from you opal) assuming 5days use x 4.3wks = $331, then food (budget meal from market place) at $60/wk x 4.3wks = $258.

Your average monthly costs would be at circa $1,370 but you might want to consider added cost for utilities. Of course these are based on NSW might be different in other states.

@athelene I'm single - no dependent and rents an apartment 50 minutes away from CBD. I spend roughly around $2K per month (medyo maluho na yun).

@Jacraye no, i don't think i'll survive on canned goods and instant noodles haha. then i should probably budget $1500-2000, but still watch my weekly expenses para ma-control ang spending. thank you very much for the tips and suggestions!

@misterV considering you live that far from CBD na, how much po yung rent nyo per week nun?

@athelene In my opinion, you may migrate directly without passing through student visa. It will be much costly when you apply for student visa first then subsequently apply for permanent resident. ;)

@vincechaos Technically, I can do that but since I have a full scholarship, the cost of studying isn't exactly an issue anymore. I know the student route will take more time, but I'm hoping my program in AU will help improve my chances of getting a positive skills assessment later on. :)
